All three of my kids are less than excited to go to the dentist...one complained constantly, one hated the flavors and wouldn't let his previous dentist ever finish the cleaning, and the littlest one would bite or refuse to open his mouth! But that all changed when we started going to Doctor Vafi. She is some type of magic. All three of my kids don't fuss when we go. Her staff is amazing. We totally got robbed by this office. We gave them our full coverage insurance card that literally states "EPO" on the card and when she took the card she said she'd call and verify. I thought nothing of it. During the care she came back with the card saying 2 of my children were in network and one was out of network. Which makes no sense to me and as I tried to tell her that's not possible she told me that "maybe we didn't push the button" then she scribbled some numbers on a piece of paper itemizing the service (which, again, made no sense) then charged us $900 out of pocket. She told me to call the insurance company to be reimbursed and of course the insurance company told me that, that's not how it works. I'm surprised this dentist is still open and running if this is the way they treat customers. read more

I am trying to find a dentist that is in Ameritas insurance network and have been burned in the past by another dental office that told me they accept it. At my cleaning and exam she wanted to do 17 x rays!! I thought that was excessive, I was not experiencing any pain, I just wanted a cleaning, and I don't like the idea of unnecessary radiation. She talked me into it and walked out with a bill saying I owed nothing. Imagine my shock when I got a bill in the mail a couple weeks later for over $200! Goodbye to them! At Shoreview, the front desk person helped me confirm that my visit would be covered, she even called them for me! So nice and pleasant and helpful. I went to ShoreView for a dental cleaning and exam. The staff were all super friendly. The dental hygienist who cleaned my teeth was very gentle, communicated well and gave great tips at how I can improve my at home dental care. They are nice in the beginning, but once you become a patient, they overcharge you. They have a bad attitude and are very rude. I would think that if you are a patient, they would be nice to maintain their patients, but all they care about is money. They clearly have their preferences. I went because a coworker recommended them, and I felt like they were trustworthy. They ended up losing four patients due to their rudeness and overcharging. When my daughter went in for a toothache, they did something else instead and then tried to charge for both exams. We complained, and they said it was their mistake. If we hadn't complained, they would have charged for both procedures. But when you owe even one dollar, they go crazy over it. They yell at you and are very rude. I immediately said we are not going there anymore, canceled everything, and will never go back. I would not recommend them. They have preference. read more

Dr. Mahooti was fantastic! I recently chipped my tooth and went to another practice in which they told me I would need to shave the tooth down to a nub and have a crown placed on it. I could not believe this because it was a pretty superficial break. I decided to get a second opinion and went to shore view dental which they were able to squeeze me in the very next day. Dr. Mahooti assured me that this was an easy fix with a simple bonding. He said it would be a sin to put a crown on this tooth. He was able to do it within 20 minutes same day and it looks like there has never been a break there at all. Cannot be more happy with the results!! The staff was also very friendly and welcoming. The dental hygienist Rachell was really wonderful as well as Kira at the front desk who was very friendly. they were also able to offer me 10% off because I do not have dental coverage. I had called and messaged the office to confirm our insurance was accepted before making my baby's first time appointment as well as changing dentists for myself (for a yearly cleaning). They confirmed they do accept my insurance so we went ahead and made the appointments. After I had my appointment, I ended up receiving a bill in the mail for $304.02. I reached out to the office since I needed to figure out what was wrong before my daughters appointment was coming up. (Made apt in June for Sept apt). They then stated my insurance was out of network. I let them know that I confirmed beforehand and they said they recently accepted more insurances so they would check it out and get back to me. Waited a couple of days and reached back out to them for them to say your insurance is out of network and you need to pay the bill. I would never have came here for myself or daughter if I knew they were out of network. They told me I didn't ask the correct questions when I asked if they accept my insurance. Now we have a $300 bill for a yearly cleaning/ X-rays for myself and now I need to find a new dentist for my baby and wait even longer to get her in for an appointment. Felt all like a scam and it was all very unprofessional how it was handled. Hoping this helps others in our Pacifica community since I'm so beyond upset it happened to us but don't want it to happen to anyone else. read more

Got to say, these guys are great! And we have the ability to judge because my father-in-law is a retired dentist, my wif'e's sister is a dentist, and her husband is an endodontist. Our family's knowledge of the dental profession is deep. So from a professional point of view, these guys do great work. And that's surprisingly hard to find in the Bay Area. For some reason, there are a lot of schlocky dental professionals in the area. We drive down from San Francisco to see them, and it's completely worth the trip. In addition, this practice is a tech hub. You are not going to find any place with better technological equipment. And that equipment means that going to the dentist is much less scary. X-rays that are immediately available on the computer screen. They can take measurements for a crown and then send you to go eat lunch in the nearby mall and then an hour later come back and have it mounted. (If you do this, be polite and floss and brush after lunch. Ask them, they have supplies for this!) In addition to their professional expertise, they have customer service down pat! Everyone is completely nice and professional. If dentists make you nervous, they have video games and TV screens and headphones so you can distract yourself while they work. They have a whole left side devoted to kids with all the same bells and whistles. I can't say enough good about these guys. Save yourself the pain and hassle of bad dental work and take a trip to them in Pacifica. Your teeth and gums will thank you! read more

I have been using Shoreview dental fore about 4 years now. In April they said they sent out a text stating they are not affiliated with delta dental. I never received or read the text. Who sends you a text telling you your benefits are not good there any longer. They didn't even say that just not affiliated. Went into my cleaning appointment today. Just a reminder the ladies at the counter are fully aware I have delta dental. Have my teeth cleaned X-ray are done and an exam. Great Go to walk out and schedule my next appointment. The tell me I have a $ 515 bill payment due now. All they say is we sent you a text in April. WTF. I hope this hasn't happened to anyone else Scamming people is wrong. I have always been around a dental office since I was a little kid (my mom worked in the dental field.) When I started high school I needed an office that worked better for my schedule. I was a little worried about the change but everyone has been so nice and helpful The doctor and hygienist helped me take better care of my teeth. My mom who has been in the field for over 30 years says nothing but good things about the office staff and how they accommodate our family. Last visit she commented to me on how welcoming the staff was to all the patients and how professional they were towards each other. That's a lot coming from my mom. I have been a patient at ShoreView Dental for about 10 years. Their service has been consistently excellent. They have replaced chipped and deteriorating crowns, old fillings, and I have had regular cleanings in order to keep my mouth healthy. The repair work has always been high quality, looking and feeling good when all was said and done. I have my favorite dental hygienist, and they are mindful about making sure to schedule my cleanings when she is available. It doesn't hurt that ShoreView actually has a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean. But I would patronize them if they were in a trailer park! read more

Buyer Beware!!! $840.00!!! bill! As a family, we have been going to this dental office for over 20 years and have bern happy with the care. We hadn't had any big problems to mention until now. As far as the office and it's technology, not much has changed. But how they do business has dramatically changed. BE ADVISED, they now have some ongoing battle with insurance companies like Delta Dental, the largest insurance company in America, and the clients are becoming the collateral damage, who is in the right or wrong is not my problem but what is my problem is transparency. The prices for any work has quadrupled. My teeth cleaning that took about 30 minutes with the addition of a small repair to tooth enamel with no anesthesia and took about 15 minutes was $840.00. We will only get a small portion of that money back from our insurance provider. When I questioned them about it, the woman who manages the billing, went on about how their prices are the going rate around the area. If so then post the prices so your patients can see what they are paying and what tithe insurance will be covering. The couple who started this business were lovely but the husband had to leave due to medical issues. His wife still takes care of the children's side of the office but has reduced her work hours so not sure how much she knows about how the office is being ran. Anyway, the take away, is to always ask up front what you are going to be charged before getting in that chair. I unfortunately did not and am stuck with these up charges! Insurance will likely pay 1/3d of this bill. I feel taken advantage of and used as a political pawn between the office and out insurance company, We've learned my lesson so you don't have to learn yours. Ask before your appointment what the charges will be for that visit and what portion you will be paying out of pocket. Ask for a broken down cost estimate and have it emailed directly. Lastly, I'm not sure other most offices are doing the same things. I did have the same issue, just weeks ago, with an oral surgeon they referred us to who took out our daughter's wisdom teeth that up charge was over $1000 so I can only imagine they are and many people are being affected by these unfair practices.
