After a searing weekend, the air conditioning companies were busy servicing many failed systems. On…read morea Thursday afternoon in mid-July, with two weeks of guests expected to arrive on Saturday, and more 90+ degree weather expected, we needed help and an assessment of why our 12 year old system was blowing warm and hot air into our house. We decided to try Choptank Heating and Air because it is located nearby in Preston. Expecting either a long wait for service or the bad news of having to replace our air conditioner, we were delighted to have Brandon stop over within 30 minutes of our call, diagnose and replace a failed capacitor, and head on his way within 15 minutes. There was no sticker shock-- his price and honesty will have us returning to him for regular service and telling our friends about him. In fact, he will be heading over later to give a "second opinion" to a friend who has just bought her first home and who has been told she needs a new air conditioner for $8,000. Even paying for a Choptank service call should be money well spent.

Then there was complications with the furnace that was unsafe for use during winter weather. Months went by again with numerous requests to fix the problem with no return phone calls, until again threats of legal repercussions were made. Since then Brandon continues to make false promises of correcting his installation error, setting up appt dates, and then not appearing to complete the job. It's clear that he is waiting for his installation warranty to expire after getting your money! Unprofessional ass! Steer clear! Shoddy work, doesn't care about how he leaves your house a mess after install, doesn't take the time to answer service calls on HIS work, makes false promises on service appt dates, and lies/places blame on others for his mistakes.

They were the most…read moreexpensive of the quotes I got and lowered their price a little to get the job, but were still higher than the others. I chose them because of their availability, referral and the comprehensive way the owner explained their approach and solution. However, their price was definitely not warranted, nor was selecting them for the job. The installer (owner's son) was sloppy, drilled an extra pretty large unnecessary hole for wiring in my coat closet due to lack of measuring, didn't fill it well using caulk - all he had, and got dust and caulk on my coats that he had told me I didn't need to remove from the closet, and which he didn't bother to cover. It ended up costing me an extra $500 in higher electric bills due to a leak in the freon line he re-routed. It leaked for three months before another company discovered the leak when they noticed the constant cycling of the heat pump and significant loss of freon. When the original installer came back to repair the leak, he said they didn't have a leak detector like the other company used to detect the leak. He also reprogrammed the thermostat incorrectly for the backup gas system, and didn't appear to understand what he was doing. The owner seemed professional during the estimate process, but was defensive when I questioned him about several issues during and after install, including why he wasn't present for the install as he'd led me to believe he would be. He also refused to split the difference as I requested, or to offer to help me at all with the 100% higher heating bills for the impacted three months, even though he took responsibility for the leak. There are definitely better and more professional companies on the Eastern Shore.
