Shoreline Park is a spit of land surrounding Rainbow Harbor. It is right next to the Aquarium of the Pacific, and its most striking feature is the lighthouse on top of the hill. Despite the quaintness of the lighthouse, it is not historic. The entire park is a recent creation, made by filling in the harbor in the 1990s. I think the nearby Golden Shores wetlands were created because of the destruction caused by this filling. A windy path leads through this park. Most people hang out on the grass, or fish on the ocean-side end of the peninsular park, where you can gaze at the Queen Mary. On the side facing Rainbow Harbor, you get breathtaking views of the Long Beach skyline, and watch the ships ply in and out, including some very fanciful-looking boats. This part of the park also sports a restored dune habitat. The area is sandy, but you can walk on a pretty wooden boardwalk through tiny clusters of native vegetation, including coyote bush, buckwheats, and other shrubs. Beautiful wildflowers grow under these shrubs, and egrets and other waterfowl hang out on the rocks below. Interpretive signs along the path tell you about the natural and cultural history of the area. Some signs tell you to look for sea slugs and other critters in Rainbow Harbor. But that advice is too optimistic--the harbor is so heavily polluted with litter, grime, and oil that you can't really see in the water. The proximity to the Aquarium and Shoreline Village mean that this park is typically crawling with tourists. read more

A gem of Long Beach is Shoreline Village and this wonderful park. It is a great place to have a stroll and get some vitamin D and fresh air. Perfect for family, a date, or just hanging out with your best friends. During my most recent trip, I took my parents and their friends here and they loved it. We parked in the parking structure across from The Pike and near the aquarium and it is free (WITH VALIDATION) for the first 90 minutes. I didn't know and had to pay $5.50 for only less than an hour so definitely try to get validation! I love all the palm trees and the view is beautiful. Make a trip up to the lighthouse if you can. And if you have more time, rent a bike and bike down along the coast of Long Beach. Up at the lighthouse, there are benches all around for you to sit and enjoy the view. And since it is on a hill, it is a great place to relax on the grass or have your little ones run around or even roll down the hill! A fun place to bring the family. A little bit of everything in regards to shopping, food, ice cream, coffee, games, people watching.. I took a run earlier in the morning and ran through this area where I saw it being pressure washed, the patios being cleaned, and wiped. Everything looked immaculately clean. This afternoon was filled with visitors and the friendly faces from all the restraints and stores. read more

It's a nice area. The park around the lighthouse is well kept. The Aquarium of the Pacific is there along with a bunch of restaurants nearby. This place gets PACKED during the weekends and to a lesser extent in the evenings because there are a lot Pokémon stops here. I used to ride my bicycle to the lighthouse in the evenings when I do my 30 mile circuit but no more because there are too many people who don't pay attention and stands right in the middle of the bike path (albeit is only the last few yards of the bike path). It's a nice place to visit if you don't mind the Pokémon people in the weekends. read more

Wow, what a great retreat in the middle of downtown Long Beach. The park is located on a grassy peninsula over looking The Pike and Rainbow Harbor. The lighthouse at he end of the peninsula adds an element of east coast living with a west coast view. If you're a boat lover, you can sit or lay on the marina side and watch boats come and go, and if the open seas are more your style then head over to the south side of the peninsula to see views of open water as well as the Queen Mary. There are concrete benches scattered along the path that winds around the park, as well as trees that offer shade for picnics or lounging. There is also a restroom located on the north side of the park. Even though the park dies see a lot of people traffic at times during the day, it manages to make you feel as though you have escaped the monotony of city life. I came on a Sunday around noon and although the sun was out there was a nice cool breeze. I begin my tour from the Aquarium of the Pacific entrance. To the side of the aquarium is a beautiful fountain that mimics the sounds of waves crashing on the beach. I highly suggest standing the middle of it and closing your eyes and listen. As I walk towards the lighthouse the walkway splits into two paths. The right path will take you through vegetation. I opted to walk on the boardwalk because I like the sound it makes when you walk on it and it's closer to the sand. The walkway circles the lighthouse so you can reach it not only by foot but by bike or skateboard. I took the shortcut and walked up the hill. The lighthouse is not open of course but the base of it still provides a 360 degree view of the marina. Perfect opportunity for a panoramic picture with your iPhone. Adorable place to walk around with scenic and picture perfect back drops. Bf and I grabbed dessert at the funnel house, played some games at the arcade ( almost won a stuffed animal at the claw machine, but failed), visited several shops including hot licks ( hot sauces and spices. Sampled a few the hottest sauces available. Extremely hot), and exotic jerky ( we bought a few sticks of beef jerky) and finally concluded our date with a ton of photos. This is a great place to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon and it's a great (in my opinion, better) alternative to pricier, touristy piers of Santa Monica or Newport. See the aquarium. Pay for a boat ride. Have a picnic on the stretch of grass and take in the the view of the Queen Mary. Tour the Queen Mary. Walk to the lighthouse. Shop at the Pike. Shoreline Park is friendly, fun and much easier to park and navigate then other beach areas in Southern Cali. read more

I like to walk my bear-like doggy here. The grass is well taken care of and it's a bit of a hidden secret, so never too crowded. I'm not sure what's with Long Beach and fake landmarks... here, we have the fake lighthouse, and across the street is the fake rollercoaster (which, everytime people visit, I get asked 'Why didn't they just build a real roller coaster?') The only bad part is the beach patrol gustapo will chase you out after 10 or 11pm, whatever time it "closes", and at night, this is where people who still live with their mother's come to make out. Long Beach...Long Beach...Long Beach...I missed you after many years away. I used to come here a lot during the weekend and take the Blue Line. Now, it has been a couple years and this time, it was not for leisure. It was for business. I arrived in Long Beach around 8:15. I parked at Shoreline Park/Rainbow Harbor. I was supposed to park over at the Hyatt Regency, but I was going to take in the harbor air. Parking is $8. I saw a lot of kids this morning and was wondering what was going on. I forgot that the Aquarium of the Pacific was on site. I walked towards the dock and it was like I remembered many years ago, probably even cleaner. Everything I saw was seemed it came right out of a dream. Queen Mary in the background, the lighthouse, and ships leaving the harbor. I thought I was in New England or Maine for a moment. Unfortunately, I could not stay long. However, it was the best 45 minutes to hang around. I love when big buildings are just watching the harbor. Now, I am trying to imagine if I lived near the harbor in one of those luxury condos or apartments. It may happen. Long Beach, I missed you and I am glad to have returned after many years away. I must say that this place was nice, but not the best place I have ever had a picnic at... My girlfriend and I came here on a Wednesday to have a picnic and play domino's with our little Laso-poo named Jilly. Now don't let the arrow of this location fool you, the area you want to picnic in is not in front of the aquarium, it is behind it, about a 4 minute walk, to around the light house itself. If you park in the aquarium park deck (which is $8!!! yikes!) come out the front, go past the aquarium on the left side, and you will see the light house. Walk towards it and you will start to see grass and very nice views... We decided to side on the south facing side of the hill to overlook the Queen Mary, but you can sit and look at the city or up and down the coast either way. Also, there is additional parking around behind the aquarium which didn't seem to be monitored that well... I hate to tell people to cheat the system, but if you are only going for a short while, it's probably worth taking the chance... Anyway its a very nice, clean and quiet park (except when the Queen Mary blows her horn randomly and scares the poop out of Jilly!) that we think dogs are OK in. From the sign we read, I don't think they wanted them down around where the charter boats launched. Also, they had a isolated southern facing pier where we saw a few people fishing... I will probably be back to get some of that action! It's not a 5 in my book, but it surly is a peaceful and enjoyable place. read more

As a Pokemon Go fan, I came here several times to catch pokemon due to its popularity in spawning rare pokemon. If I am not catching pokemon, there are actually plenty to do in the area: -The lighthouse (at night, it changes color) -Awesome view looking over the long beach downtown buildings and Queen Mary on the other side -Aquarium of the Pacific -The Pike Outlets There are plenty of parking (both metered and structure). If you are not feeling like driving, you can always take the metro blue line and it's just a short walk to here. Definitely take your date here. Ignoring all the pokemon players who are yelling out lapras and dratini, it can actually be a pretty romantic spots with amazing view around at night. read more

This is such a great park to go to on a sunny day and have a picnic! It's right next to the Aquarium of the Pacific. I remember a long time ago, before the Aquarium even existed, this park used to be HUGE and had bike paths. However, with the Aquarium being built, the park shrunk considerably, but it's still a lovely park to just walk around or watch the sunset :) Closest parking is the Aquarium, however if you'd like cheaper parking, you can park at Shoreline Village and do a little 10 minute walk. read more

Just went to love Long Beach festival this weekend. This is a cool breezy place to have a venue. I recommend it for the views of the queen mary and spruce goose dome and of course the constant polite breeze to keep one cool in July. This area can hold a few thousand people and some huge party dancing tents. There is plenty of parking near by from the pike, and the aquarium. Straight off the 710/405 right down to the water. Being as I come with a child and have seen people smoking crack it lessens the beauty of this place. Also they charge for parking which to me is lame. My mom and grandma love this place mostly because they'd see old men biking or joggin on the sidewalk. lol i swear, they're perverts haha jk i love you mom and grams hahahah!! My best friends and I have our annual x-mas gift exchanges here because it has such a beautiful surrounding, and is not that crowded. So it's perfect to snap those pictures while opening/exchanging gifts with an amazing view of the water, bridge, green grass, and sometimes with the Catalina boat in the background. read more

Not a lot of people know that there is meter parking behind the aquarium. I'm lucky with parking. I usually stay for an hour or so without paying the meter. I'm not saying that you don't pay the meter. I'm just saying I'm usually lucky with parking here. The lighthouse area has a nice view of the Queen Mary. This place is about five minutes away from my house. I often see tourist and young couples in love. The LA river bike path goes through this place, so you'll see cyclist. I read and meditate around here. Headphones on, the world off. Check out this place at night. You can see a rainbow bridge. I like this place for their lights. It's a bit quieter than Santa Monica Pier. This is one of the places to visit when you're in Long Beach cause it's a nicer/tourisy part of this hood. read more

Just grab a girl and go! It's a small patch of greens, overlooking the LB waters with the lighthouse right behind you. In the daytime, it's nice and relaxing. At night, it transforms into a charming setting with colors all around you Not necessarily a thumbs down but maybe an index finger for paid parking structure. Otherwise, totally recommend you check out this spot. Free. Restaurants abound if you get the munchies. read more

I would totally recommend this park for people who wants to experience long beach. there are countless things you can do here from the aquarium to boat rides restaurants, bars, shopping, arcades and site seeing. you might even see someone jump into the ocean. read more
