First off, yeah, they know lots of folks are going to want alcohol, and I think half of the aisle endcaps displayed something alcoholic. While they had a lot of classic and domestic products, they do offer a decent amount of local beer, wine, and pre-mixed cocktails (even though the Untappd app said the local beer I was looking for wasn't sold anywhere in a 25 mile radius, Island Foods had it!). We came the week of Pony Penning, and the store makes a couple dozen cakes (see picture) to celebrate the occasion. The produce aisle is small, but they have enough that you could get a decent variety of fruits and vegetables for your stay. There's a pretty decent selection of meats here. I don't remember seeing too much non-frozen seafood, but I imagine it's hard to compete with the fresh catch with specialty fish markets on the island. I was pleasantly surprised to find several Gardein products, which meant vegetarian Child #1 could have some imitation meats and seafood if he wanted a protein similar to what the rest of his omnivorous family would get. Things are pricey. Inflation's here to stay and it's a touristy beach town. Considering that, it's not too bad. The folks at the register were very friendly. Whatever foodstuffs you're looking for, it's a good bet that Island Foods has it.

Not only was she kind, but she went above and beyond to help this customer. Bravo! She stood out because she was incredibly professional and is a great example of how a manger should be! I wish there were more employees like her! A while later, as my family and I shopped the store, we asked for assistance from Janice Roberson as she was stocking shelves down an aisle. I asked her where I could find an item and she basically grunted and mumbled as she waved me and my kids away. I asked her to repeat herself and she told me she doesn't know and "every store is different" and shooing me in a direction, while not even pausing her task. She was outright rude and even my kids were shocked. Having been a manager in a major retail store, I understand there is a wide range of professionalism and lack there of. These two women show the extremes of the scale. The store was in good order, decently stocked (I understand Covid has caused some issues) and most employees were courteous and welcoming. The candy counter is just like an old fashioned variety store. They have fresh meats, produce, and seasonal items. The holiday decorations are amazing, and they had more different wreaths for sale out in front than you can imagine. This store has been in business for over 70 years, so be sure to stop in and keep them going for another few decades.
