A relatively new addition to this Remuera neighborhood, Shore Road has quickly become a popular spot with the locals. The quality of the food at Shore Road is what really sets it apart from other cafes. The cabinet food is always excellent, but several of their dishes are creative and totally delicious. The Tuna Nicoise is always fantastic, the power breakfast is great, but one of my favourites is the Shakshuka (a very spicy breakfast with roasted peppers, eggs and chorizo). Shore Road Cafe is popular local for Remuera residents. Situated on Shore road, theres ample amounts of car parks. To be honest, I think the cafe is a tad dated. I actually came a few years ago and nothing has changed. I guess people can say - why change what doesn't need to be fixed? However the menus are laminated and tattered, and the table and chairs are just a bit old and uncomfortable. I think the menu is uneventful. There were no real options that shouted out exciting. I chose the tofu sandwich purely because again I don't eat eggs, and wasn't really keen on spaghetti for brunch. The tofu/halloumi sandwich was actually quite tasty. The tofu and halloumi were cooked to the right degree and everything was served hot. - Im not a fan of "luke warm". Plus there was a heap of avocado which I love! Though you have to love avocado as much as I do to appreciate it. The servers are friendly and the food is efficient. Its a shame the interior and exterior isn't as comforting as the food. Shore Road Café has one very obvious selling point: it is the only café located at the bottom of the ridiculously steep Ayr Street, the very long and very steep Brighton road and the also steep Arney Road. See my point? Anyone who also lives at the bottom of these hills really has only one option if they want coffee, food and nice outdoor area to enjoy it within easy walking distance. It is for this reason that I feel Shore Road Café can serve such average food and still be packed full of Yoga-mums every weekday morning. It's not that brunch staples like scrambled eggs aren't good, they're just not as good as what I found after I ventured further up the hill into Parnell or Newmarket where competition is so much fiercer. Saying that though, the coffees (and especially the espresso milkshakes) are fantastic and the view from the outdoor seating area across the park and over to the harbour make for a great place to spend a lazy Saturday morning. read more

I may like this place for a different reason than the others. When I came here today on a rainy Sunday arvo with 2 girlfriends we all enjoyed our roast vegetable, beetroot and chickpea salads. Yes, we did also like the artwork on the walls and the friendly service but what I will remember the most is a friendly black cat having a sleep on a couch in the back next to a customer and looking very much at home here. Those of you who think there is probably nothing worse than cats in this world will not understand how such a sight will always make me want to return to a cafe with a big smile on my face. I once went to a book shop in Mt Eden where there was a cat sleeping in the shop window amongst some books and cushions and I loved this shop for the same reason. For me this creates an instant feeling of cosiness and timelessness and in the case of the Shore Cafe the only thing missing would be a fireplace which the cat surely would appreciate, too.:-) read more

Nice little cafe in Remuera, very popular with the locals. Often frequented by people who have just completed their walk around the scenic area nearby. Service is good and the staff are very pleasant. Had the chicken pasta in wine sauce with cheese and herbs. You can order a salad, combined with your choice of ingredients. A trendy place. read more

I have only been to Shore Road Café a few times as I have always had loyalties to my favourite cafes and cannot go past them; but where Shore Road Café is located there has certainly been a need for a café in that area for some time now. The last time I was here I have the zucchini fitters. They were actually lovely, I really enjoyed them. I have also popped in here while stuck in traffic a number of times while on my way to Uni. The coffee here is great and I really enjoy it. They also have some delicious looking slices in the cabinet which I always try to stay far away from. I would have to recommend their southern Otago herbal tea! It's so delicious!! In both taste and smell. Located right opposite a massive field that quite regularly has cricket played on it, this is the perfect place to come while the kids and the dog play across the road and you enjoy a lovely coffee and something naughty to nibble on. read more

I can totally agree with some of the comments here... I've been here to get coffee 5 times over 3 years (mainly out of necessity for a coffee fix) and every time I've been met with shocking service. Ordering coffee first in line and waiting till the next 8 to 10 people get there's is pretty damn rude. Standing in line and being ignored while everyone else gets served... Ditto. Ordering a Mocha and being handed a cappuccino 3 of the 5 times. Again, poor. The other 2 times the younger staff ordered for me and bingo, MOCHA!!! They actually looked embarrassed for the way their 'bosses' treated me, and were the only polite ones in the place. Maybe it's because I don't fit the usual clique of the place, but my money is still the same flavoured as theirs. Haven't been back for ages because of it, which I'm guessing it's a ploy to eliminate customers that don't fit their mould. It's good coffee (when you get what you actually ordered) but I rather drive to the nearby car park and go to the Coffee Guy where the coffee is almost as good and you get treated with respect. Might make one last return visit with a large group and order all mochas, and pay in 10c pieces, and sit back and enjoy watching them count it while we wait an hour for our order. Only then I could say I've had a pleasurable experience there. read more

Disappointed. $19.50 for a basic eggs benedict without salad. The style of the cafe is very basic and need to be renewed. We had a painful noise of AC during our breakfast. Nothing here justified the price of the food. read more

Coffee is always good. Staff is friendly. Decent brunch too. It's good, if you can stand the at times snooty older crowd.

Went to the Shore Rd cafe on the weekend for an afternoon cup of coffee. The place wasn't busy at all (everyone would have finished their lunch). After the waitress found out I'm there just for coffee and won't be ordering any food I could see how her impression has changed. She took my order and left. 25 minutes later my coffee still hasn't arrived, I assume she never bothered to advise the barista about my order, so I just walked out. It's a shame, as their coffee is really good. read more

This place is the new endeavour of the people who used to run Jafa in Grey Lynn. I used to really like Jafa, so I was keen to give this place a look. It's not a huge café but the layout feels spacious enough. A lot of the furnishings are new, which makes me think the building wasn't a café before they moved in. They've done it up nice though, and there's art on the walls from local artists which is a nice touch. I had a Reuben sandwich (corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, etc) which was very tasty and pretty massive - I actually wound up taking some of it home. The coffee was good, although not being a coffee expert I can't tell you much more about it. It was nice, I enjoyed how it tasted. My one complaint about Shore Road: the inane privileged conversation of the ageing Remuera socialites at the table next to us, who reeked of Capri pants and overstated jewellery. It sounds like a minor thing, but I really did prefer the clientele in Grey Lynn. read more

I drive past this cafe on the way to work and have always wanted to stop in as it has a great outdoor area that is usually full of customers. The other day I left for work a little earlier just so I could pop in, unfortunately I didn't have enough time to sit in so I grabbed a take-away coffee. I received extremely friendly service from the two blokes at the counter, one addressed me as 'pants' as I was wearing leopard print jeans, he was all "hey pants" haha which I thought was nice and informal and lightened the morning mood. Whilst my coffee was being made I had a good look at their menu which looked really delicious, I noticed they use free range eggs which is a sign of a great cafe in my opinion. My take-away coffee was so good I was really surprised actually! I don't usually like to take-away as they contain a lot more milk but this one had a good kick to it. I'm definitely going to make an effort to stop in here more often, and I can't wait to sit in one weekend for breakfast. read more

I've come to Shore Road a couple of times because it's brought to you by the makers of Jafa in Grey Lynn, where I visited frequently as I lived down the street. It's in a kind of weird location and it's not the biggest of cafes, but the outdoor area in nice if you manage to grab a table out there. Just make sure you bring your sunnies because the sun shines right through in the late morning. I really love the coffee here; I will always order a second coffee instead of a Coke if the coffee is good. I ordered this haloumi sandwich thing which was really quite delicious. It was a really plentiful serving also that I should of really taken some of it home, but it was too yum so I had to devour it until I felt sick. The locals who I guess frequent here aren't really the kind of people I would tend to hang out with, but people watching (and therefore judging) is always fun and I always enjoy doing that with my friends while we have breakfast.
