Shopes is one of those "hidden gems" for grocery stores. I'm from a small Indiana town, and this this me of home. The employees are very nice, and knowledgeable, and the store is very well organized and clean. The prices for shelved and pre-packages items are more expensive than Walmart. For example, at the time of this review, they had a "sale" for 2 16oz containers of Lucerne brand sour cream for $5. I went to Walmart and got the store brand of a 48oz container for $4.88. (just as one example) But this place shines on their fresh produce and locally butchered meat. The prices for steak are literally half the price of the big chains. And they even have beef bacon (for those with high blood pressure/cholesterol and need to avoid pork and high sodium) It's my go-to for beef and fresh vegetables read more

Was looking for homemade flour tortillas like the ones from Doña Esperanza from Tucson, AZ. We used to be able to get them from Carniceria El Toritos a few years ago. I called but they no longer carry them. Our family member recommended Shopes so we stopped by to get steaks & tortillas. Thankfully they had the large & medium sized ones!! Happy Dance!! {*_*} We usually get the large tortillas but they ride up the frying pan when we make cheese crisps so we bought the medium sized ones. They're not from Doña Esperanza but will give them a try. We also purchased beef ribeye steaks for $12.99/lb. Were having a dinner so we bought about 10. Not bad! They were tender & cooked up well on the grill. Service was friendly & the store has other grocery items & produce. read more

This store is very close to my home but usually get groceries in San Tan before coming home. Went here today because I didn't feel like driving. It's old but clean. Has a funny smell. Things I could get past if it was a great place to get groceries. Two stars because staff was so amazing. But the PRICES! Where are we? Alaska? Where food has to be shipped in? Absolutely disgusting. I will not go back. This store should be embarrassed. read more

This place is good for people that cannot get to Walmart or may be looking for something that can only be found here. The deli here is great and staff are nice! The prices could be cheaper though! read more

I LOVE this place ALL employees know exactly where everything is and just so friendly!!!

It's super convenient I love the one in Coolidge because they have deep fried gizzards at the deli. The workers are all pretty nice and you can find some pretty good deals there. read more

This store has always been an absolute rock of the community. Now more than ever I appreciate the fresh and local products that they carry. Items are clearly labeled as to the origin and most are from nearby areas. You will not find a better source of meat and the butcher is always willing to custom cut for you. When an owner is almost always walking around his store, you can see the care and pride that goes into the place. We drive past two large chain stores to shop at Shopes for great food. read more

I've been going to Shopes for 25 years now and I have never been disappointed. I have not gone there for a couple of years because I've been in Arkansas and now that I'm back I decided to make salsa and get veggies for a tuna salad. I was so disappointed on most of the vegetables they had I'm talking about the tomatoes were so bad they belonged in a pigs pin, my fingers just about went though them by picking them up. The lemons were so old they looked orange in color and were all wrinkled, same goes for so many of thier other vegetables they had on stalk not to mention 4 heads of garlic all black and shucked up. I was so disappointed in what was my favorite store that it made me feel that I don't want to ever go there again. I also knowtest way higher prices and way lower quality on meats. Service was still top knotch as always but to the new owners please do better. I will try again in 6 months and I will put a new review then. Great little mom & pop place to shop. Every employee is always nice and helpful, and you're able to find products that you probably wouldn't find anywhere else in town. I always opt to shop at Shopes and give my money to a local, smaller business! They're a little more expensive, but supporting local businesses matter! read more

I absolutely love shopes would rather shop here than any other store in town. Always has great deals on their meats. A deli you can sit and eat a quick lunch before you shop. Most of all their costumer service is outstanding everyone is always positive ready to help you without having an attitude or a I don't really want to attitude that you get anywhere else you go. Prices on meat and produce are very good. Wednesday and Thursday specials are VERY affordable. The store is a bit run-down and could use some help cosmetically. Everyone is kind and very helpful. Its your run of the mill local grocery store with great weekly specials. The store should pickup some paint and refresh, it would be a five-star store. read more

My work is directly next to Shope's so I come here almost every day to buy a drink or get something from the deli for lunch. They have the cheapest hot lunch specials period. The employees are all very nice and I've never had one reason in 2 1/2 years (about 150 visits) to think otherwise. The selection of groceries isn't as big as safeway/walmart as it is a small store but you can easily get anything you "NEED" here. Lines are never long so popping in to get a few things you need and get out is very fast. read more

The meat is much better than Safeway or Walmart, the employees are friendlier than Walmart and the part I like best is when I call the bakery to order jalapeno cheese bread and they have my fresh baked loaves waiting for me the next morning! Try that at Safeway or Walmart. read more
