Great little market for smaller items! Peter is awesome! They all are. They're the only local place that carries what I like.

Shopes is one of those "hidden gems" for grocery stores. I'm from a small Indiana town, and this…read morethis me of home. The employees are very nice, and knowledgeable, and the store is very well organized and clean. The prices for shelved and pre-packages items are more expensive than Walmart. For example, at the time of this review, they had a "sale" for 2 16oz containers of Lucerne brand sour cream for $5. I went to Walmart and got the store brand of a 48oz container for $4.88. (just as one example) But this place shines on their fresh produce and locally butchered meat. The prices for steak are literally half the price of the big chains. And they even have beef bacon (for those with high blood pressure/cholesterol and need to avoid pork and high sodium) It's my go-to for beef and fresh vegetables

I called but they no longer carry them. Our family member recommended Shopes so we stopped by to get steaks & tortillas. Thankfully they had the large & medium sized ones!! Happy Dance!! {*_*} We usually get the large tortillas but they ride up the frying pan when we make cheese crisps so we bought the medium sized ones. They're not from Doña Esperanza but will give them a try. We also purchased beef ribeye steaks for $12.99/lb. Were having a dinner so we bought about 10. Not bad! They were tender & cooked up well on the grill. Service was friendly & the store has other grocery items & produce.

My sister and I checked out and the 2 gentleman were very friendly and the one at the end bagged up our things and put them in the cart for us. Be sure to download the app for extra savings on hundreds of items throughout the store. On our way out, as we walked by the customer service desk, I spied with my little eyes, this huge turquoise stuffed animal just chillin' on the ledge. I said, "I want that!!" My sister laughed at me as I picked it up and wondered how much it was. I guessed $60 but there was an employee nearby and my sister asked her how much it was. She said, "$15!" My eyes about popped out of their sockets!! Whaaaat?! So I take Mr. Dino around the corner to the register and prepare to pay for him. The other employee, Angelica, processed my purchase and at first, I saw $49.99 on the register. I was about to leave the dino behind but then she said, "if you put your phone number in, it's cheaper, I think it's in sale." Enter my number I did and BOOM!!! The magical price of $12.50 popped up on the screen, so you better believe I busted out my card and secured that transaction faster than a fat kid stealing candy at a candy store!!! LMAO!!! It was a glorious visit, and my sister and I laughed our asses off as we left the store! Oh, and also, tbis store has the viral lemon ice creams!! Say whaaaat?! I was too lazy to look for other flavors, but the lemon ones are front and center at the end cap, on sale for $10.99 for a 3-pack!! I would have grabbed 2 packs but my sister's freezer has no room! *cry* This Safeway gets a 2 thumbs up and 5 stars from me!!

The aisles are wide and easy to shop. Sale items are clearly marked, but beware of the fine print! I used to fall for it, but now I know better. To get the lowest price possible, you have to download the app and load them onto your card. Sometimes, their items can be pricey without coupon savings. I don't normally shop here, but it's the only place around whenever I'm in Florence. I believe they do offer curbside pickup if you place an order online. Shout out to Shari and the rest of the crew who worked on Thanksgiving day on 11.27.2025. She completed my transaction and was very pleasant. I appreciate all employees who work on holidays, especially those who do so with a smile!

The biggest issue is the way customers are treated. On several visits, employees in the deli have come across as dismissive and unnecessarily rude. Simple interactions--like asking a question or placing an order--are met with short, irritated responses that make you feel like you're bothering them just by being there. I also have concerns about how items are being weighed and priced. There have been instances where the weights didn't seem accurate, which directly affects what customers are charged. That kind of inconsistency raises serious questions about fairness and trust. I understand that working in retail can be stressful, but that doesn't justify taking it out on customers. Respectful service and accurate pricing are basic expectations. At this point, I avoid the deli here unless I absolutely have to. Management should take a closer look at both customer service and pricing practices in this department.
