    Kimchi Butter Katsu Chicken

I cannot stress my love for this place more. We always get the chicken Katsu platter. One day we ordered it online and someone else must've taken it and they made another one for us. No problem AND gave us drinks while we waited. Truly cannot advertise them enough! Food is fire. Located in the newer food area on San Juan! Plenty of outside and inside seating but gets BUSY on the weekends.

Shootz is in the Rodeo River Street building at the River Street Marketplace.

Had lunch at the Shootz location in San Juan Capistrano yesterday. Had a Katsu Chicken Sando. There was the option of ordering one or two. One was enough food for me. Professional eaters will probably order two. It took me a few minutes to figure out you had to press a button near the cash register for service. The Katsu Chicken Sando at Shootz is Hawaiian style, so it is different than Japanese style Katsu Chicken Sandwiches. One of the differences is the little round pasta that on on the Katsu Chicken Sando. Shootz is in Rodeo River Street, a western barn style building that is part of the River Street Marketplace. The fast food places at River Street Marketplace are in Rodeo River Street. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. I sat outside.

Rating: 6.5/10 First time trying the Shoots location in San Juan Capistrano. I've been to the Rodeo 39 location in Stanton before, and that one is noticeably better. This location is in Rodeo Plaza and has very limited seating. Not the most comfortable setup if you're planning to dine in. Service was a downside. Took about 25 minutes to get a single combo plate, which felt long for such a small order. Combo Plate (2 Musubis + Plate, Spicy) Very flavorful, but way too heavy. The first few bites were good, but it quickly became overwhelming. Extremely rich, very spicy, and felt like there was too much butter. Ended up not being able to finish it. Musubis Better than the plate. Solid overall, but nothing particularly standout. Overall, decent flavor but held back by long wait times and how heavy the food is. Not as good as the Stanton location.

Decent and quick. We stayed here for a weekend and I got the spam Masubi twice. The spam is cut in half vertically so it's super thin. There's too much rice but the green onion and sauce make it work. I wish there were more to the menu but the price to quality is present.

The sandwich is so good I had to come here twice in one week! While service is very minimal at this take-out counter in a food court, the SANDWICH is mind-blowing! It's the crispiest, most tender chicken katsu topped with their everything mac salad, kimchi aioli, and awesome sauce between Hawaiian roll buns. It came out steaming hot and fresh. The chicken looked like it was begging to be eaten! One bite and I was hooked. I have also gotten a side of mac salad, which was good on its own, but I actually enjoyed it more in the sandwich. Probably wouldn't get it as a side again. Instead I'd go for the musubi because it looks tempting! Plenty of seating in the food court and in the cute outside area in river street marketplace. Parking is easy with 45 minutes free in the lot. I'm still dreaming of this katsu sandwich.

Shootz offers a unique take on classic plate lunch dishes with an added twist! I first had seen them at Rodeo 39 years ago, but didn't get to try them out until now. This location is very cool and unique as it is in a cute food court setting along with other businesses. We opted for the number 1, which came with the kimchi butter katsu, spam brûlée musubi , rice and Mac salad, and your drink of choice. Our food came out in a timely manner, and everything tasted great! I think the only complaint I have, is the spam brûlée musubi not being equally cut, so one piece had more spam than the other . Other than that, I really enjoyed this meal. If you're looking for a meal that your tastebuds will thank you for, this is it! Try the kimchi butter katsu and spam brûlée musubi!

My favorite food of all time. It's just so good and fast and convenient. I get the Kimchi butter chicken katsu plate. I'd highly recommend getting an extra side of the kimchi butter bc it's just so delicious. I think I get it like once a week. Just writing this review makes me crave it. Ugh.

Oh I just love this spot!!! Shootz is located at River Street Marketplace in San Juan. This is such a great spot to grab a bite to eat and hang out. But let's get back to the food. Shootz has a kimchi butter sauce that is SINFUL. Seriously, I could pour this stuff on anything. Service has always been great here and I'm always happy with the quality of food and portion sizes. The spam brûlée musubi are also a huge hit!! A must if you are craving some Hawaiian-esque comfort fo

Yum yum in my tum yum!!!!!!!! I love Shootz so much, i remember having one bite of their signature katsu with their kimchi butter and I fell in love. This time I got my own plate and I throughly enjoyed it so much. I got the half chicken and half shrimp combo with all Mac and I was melting with how savory this was. The service was so amazing, the lady kept pouring my friends and I more drink samples. The ambiance here is so fun, it's inside a rodeo so you're going to find your own seats but literally anywhere at this plaza is so nice.

I work in South OC and for some reason I always think of Shootz as the place I want if my boss is buying me lunch :P I love the flavor combination of kimchi and butter. It just goes so well with the katsu! The spam musubi is also really good but I need to pair the food here with sriracha to balance out the sweetness. I've only dined in at the location in Rodeo 39 Market but the food was still good when I got it delivered. I'm not really a big fan of the macaroni salad. It was a little too tarty for my taste and didn't really balance out the butteriness of the katsu. I'd definitely recommend dining-in so that you can enjoy the katsu when it's fresh hot and crispy!

Shootz was a great experience. I ordered the number 2, which came with two chicken katsu sandwiches and two spam musubis, and it was more than enough for both lunch and dinner. Everything was flavorful and satisfying, and the portions felt generous for the price. Well priced, filling, and really enjoyable overall. I would definitely come back for this one.

Just outside there are nice places to sit and eat

Located in the new or sort of new riverfront riverwalk section of San Juan Capistrano.. there is a long food hall with all these ghost kitchens selling all sorts of food, snacks, pastries... this one is next level Hawaiian that has great service at the counter... and a good selection of lemonades.. the watermelon one is fantastic! The sandwich was very good and overall a great lunch for me and my gal (wife)

Was excited to try this place, ended up being disappointed. We got their popular items: the spam musubi, kimchi butter katsu chicken, and chicken sandwich. I believe their mac salad has some sort of fish or tuna in it? But even so, it was so bland with a hint of fishiness. The spam musubi was fine. I think we may have waited too long before eating it because the sauce on top re-crystalized? So you could taste the "sugar crunch." I'm sure if you had it fresh there would not be this problem (I hope). The kimchi butter katsu chicken was unfortunately very dry. In dire need of sauce or flavor. Then we have the chicken sandwich, the chicken itself was juicy. But needed more of the kimchi aoili for flavor. To add, the mac salad in the sandwich did NOTHING for me because to reiterate, it is bland. So all it did was add a more wet texture to the sandwich. Was it a bad day? I'm not sure. This location is bit hard for us to get to, so may not be back here.

Bad to the Bone BBQ is actually Great to the Bone!!…read more Came here on 4th of July for one of their holiday feasts. It was a huge box filled with delicious bbq for the whole family! It came with 2lbs of brisket, 2 racks of ribs, 1lb of sausage, 24 pieces of bbq chicken, coleslaw, cornbread, mac n cheese, homemade potato chips, a peach cobbler, and a gallon of lemonade! The brisket was perfectly cooked with a nice smokey flavor and quite juicy. The house sausage was great, I could eat it every day. The chicken was so good with just a bit of char for that nice grilled taste. The ribs were amazing! They fell off the bone and had a perfect bite to them. Their bbq sauce is really good too, not too sweet yet smokey. Coleslaw was good and fresh. The mac n cheese was gooey and so cheesy. The chips were actually really nice, crispy, and salty. The cornbread was delicious especially with their whipped honey butter on top. For dessert I couldn't ask for a better bite than from the peach cobbler with their homemade whipped cream on top. The staff were all so nice when I went to pick up my order. Even though they were swamped for the holiday they were calm and did everything with a smile. There were 2 dining rooms that I saw so it looks like a ton of space. There's also a whole display where you can grab some bbq sauce or hot sauce to buy. Thanks Bad to the Bone for making our America 250 Independence Day so special!

It also changed the tip I entered to auto apply their own tip. After I paid, it showed me my total that they already collected payment for PLUS the tip they decided they wanted to force me to add. How could this be legal? I immediately called the restaurant but no one was answering the phone. Went to the restaurant and explained the situation to the cashier who told me I am the second person today to complain about this! She was unable to refund the tip that they took the liberty of applying themselves but I left my phone number and am still waiting to hear from the manager, otherwise I will have to take this up with my bank. Now for the food, I ordered a brisket sandwich and a side of mac and cheese. The brisket was not trimmed and it's inedible unless you like a mouthful of fat in every bite. Every single slice of brisket on my sandwich was just a slab of fat with a little meat hidden inside. I had to clean it myself and once I did there was barely any meat in my sandwich. I am attaching photos so you can see how pathetic it looks. Had I dined at the restaurant I would've sent this back or shown them how much fat I removed and asked them to bring me the equivalent in MEAT not fat, which I paid for! I would love to hear from management about what happened here regarding the deceptive pricing. As far as the food, not sure if they just have gotten lazy and don't trim their meat anymore but anyone who knows bbq knows the effort needed to properly clean brisket and that was certainly overlooked here. $25 total for a fat sandwich and a side of super oily mac and cheese. Definitely not happy in the slightest.

The food was good, portions were large enough and everything was pretty good as far as the food. My wife is a big fan of their Adobo Breakfast Bowl and on our second visit, she decided to order it again. To our surprise the dish came out noticeably different from what we remembered. It had more sauce and a hint of sweetness, almost leaning toward a paksiw-style flavor. When we asked one of the servers (not the one assigned) about it, we were told that some adjustments had recently been made to the ingredients. We were a little disappointed since we really enjoyed the original flavor from our previous visit. Thankfully, our assigned server took the time to share our feedback with the owner, Anthony. He personally acknowledged that some adjustments had been made BUT also recognized that the dish we received was not up to their standard. What really stood out to us was how he handled the situation. Rather than dismissing our concern, he offered a thoughtful resolution that completely turned the experience around and made us feel genuinely valued as customers. To me, THIS is what great hospitality looks like. Food may not always come out perfectly but when a restaurant listens, acknowledges a concern, and makes a genuine effort to find a resolution for the best possible customer experience, it makes you appreciate the place even more. I strongly recommend giving this place a visit. There aren't many Filipino-themed restaurants in SoCal that offer this level of food quality, hospitality, and overall experience. We'll definitely continue coming back!
