Decided to grab Shootz for dinner since I saw they would be opening in The Canopy in Irvine soon! I'm really glad we tried it because everything tasted great! It was a really cute vibe inside the Rodeo! You have to press the button and order at the register if you want to order a bundle. We decided to get the chicken katsu kimchi butter bundle that comes with 2 spam musubi's and a soda! The bundle comes with 2 katsu cutlets vs. just 1 from the plate. It felt pretty worth it for the price (~$22). The kimchi butter tastes great and makes the katsu feel more nuanced! We got it spicy and it wasn't overwhelming but a nice tingle. The mac also had dehydrated kimchi powder on it! The spam musubi had a sweet sauce on top which made it feel more interesting! read more

I ordered this from Doordash one afternoon without expecting too much but I was pleasantly surprised! The musubi was the best that I have ever had and the Katsu Chicken was perfectly fried. You get a lot of good food for the price! Even with doordash, the food was delicious and tasty, which doesn't always happen with delivery! I've visited the location in person at Riverstreet Marketplace and everything is just as good, if not better!! I highly recommend and I tell everyone I can about this amazing local spot. read more

I've been to River Street a few times, but hadn't tried any of the spots in the food hall until tonight. It looks like a barn and the inside is light and bright with multiple food stalls. Since I'm from Hawaii I wanted to give Shootz a try. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the food. I got the katsu chicken sandwich and the musubi. The sandwich was a 10 out of 10. I cannot stress my love for this place more. We always get the chicken Katsu platter. One day we ordered it online and someone else must've taken it and they made another one for us. No problem AND gave us drinks while we waited. Truly cannot advertise them enough! Food is fire. Located in the newer food area on San Juan! Had lunch at the Shootz location in San Juan Capistrano yesterday. Had a Katsu Chicken Sando. There was the option of ordering one or two. One was enough food for me. Professional eaters will probably order two. It took me a few minutes to figure out you had to press a button near the cash register for service. The Katsu Chicken Sando at Shootz is Hawaiian style, so it is different than Japanese style Katsu Chicken Sandwiches. One of the differences is the little round pasta that on on the Katsu Chicken Sando. Shootz is in Rodeo River Street, a western barn style building that is part of the River Street Marketplace. Rating: 6.5/10 First time trying the Shoots location in San Juan Capistrano. I've been to the Rodeo 39 location in Stanton before, and that one is noticeably better. This location is in Rodeo Plaza and has very limited seating. Not the most comfortable setup if you're planning to dine in. Service was a downside. Took about 25 minutes to get a single combo plate, which felt long for such a small order. Combo Plate (2 Musubis + Plate, Spicy) Very flavorful, but way too heavy. The first few bites were good, but it quickly became overwhelming. Extremely rich, very spicy, and felt like there was too much butter. Ended up not being able to finish it. Musubis Better than the plate. Solid overall, but nothing particularly standout. Overall, decent flavor but held back by long wait times and how heavy the food is. Not as good as the Stanton location. read more

The sandwich is so good I had to come here twice in one week! While service is very minimal at this take-out counter in a food court, the SANDWICH is mind-blowing! It's the crispiest, most tender chicken katsu topped with their everything mac salad, kimchi aioli, and awesome sauce between Hawaiian roll buns. It came out steaming hot and fresh. The chicken looked like it was begging to be eaten! One bite and I was hooked. I have also gotten a side of mac salad, which was good on its own, but I actually enjoyed it more in the sandwich. Probably wouldn't get it as a side again. Instead I'd go for the musubi because it looks tempting! Plenty of seating in the food court and in the cute outside area in river street marketplace. Shootz offers a unique take on classic plate lunch dishes with an added twist! I first had seen them at Rodeo 39 years ago, but didn't get to try them out until now. This location is very cool and unique as it is in a cute food court setting along with other businesses. We opted for the number 1, which came with the kimchi butter katsu, spam brûlée musubi , rice and Mac salad, and your drink of choice. Our food came out in a timely manner, and everything tasted great! I think the only complaint I have, is the spam brûlée musubi not being equally cut, so one piece had more spam than the other . Yum yum in my tum yum!!!!!!!! I love Shootz so much, i remember having one bite of their signature katsu with their kimchi butter and I fell in love. This time I got my own plate and I throughly enjoyed it so much. I got the half chicken and half shrimp combo with all Mac and I was melting with how savory this was. I work in South OC and for some reason I always think of Shootz as the place I want if my boss is buying me lunch :P I love the flavor combination of kimchi and butter. It just goes so well with the katsu! The spam musubi is also really good but I need to pair the food here with sriracha to balance out the sweetness. I've only dined in at the location in Rodeo 39 Market but the food was still good when I got it delivered. I'm not really a big fan of the macaroni salad. It was a little too tarty for my taste and didn't really balance out the butteriness of the katsu. I'd definitely recommend dining-in so that you can enjoy the katsu when it's fresh hot and crispy! read more

Was excited to try this place, ended up being disappointed. We got their popular items: the spam musubi, kimchi butter katsu chicken, and chicken sandwich. I believe their mac salad has some sort of fish or tuna in it? But even so, it was so bland with a hint of fishiness. The spam musubi was fine. I think we may have waited too long before eating it because the sauce on top re-crystalized? So you could taste the "sugar crunch." I'm sure if you had it fresh there would not be this problem (I hope). The kimchi butter katsu chicken was unfortunately very dry. In dire need of sauce or flavor. Then we have the chicken sandwich, the chicken itself was juicy. But needed more of the kimchi aoili for flavor. To add, the mac salad in the sandwich did NOTHING for me because to reiterate, it is bland. So all it did was add a more wet texture to the sandwich. Was it a bad day? I'm not sure. We came on a rainy Friday night and the food hall was pretty empty so seating was easy indoors. We parked on the street and paid a few bucks for 1hr. We love the shootz location at Rodeo 39 and were excited they opened one in south OC! We got the shrimp plate which was amazing! I love the light breading and crunchy shell with the well balanced sauce, which they put all over the rice too. Very delicious! We got the 2 Katsu sandwich combo which is recommended as 1 sandwich wouldn't be enough for my husband. The Katsu was crispy, moist and bigger than the bread. Wow, this place was good. In the new area of San Juan in the barn on river street. The worker was very helpful and gave us a sample of the kimchi butter chicken katsu and I was hooked. The katsu was nice and Krispy and that sauce was delicious! I got their number 1 which comes with the katsu/ rice/ mac salad, two musubi and a drink. I forgot to take a pic before I dove into it but it was piled high with chicken and a nice thinner layer of rice. The chicken was cooked well and had that nice crispy outside with their kimchi butter sauce. I got a side of their spicy ( didn't think it was spicy). Too full to review the musubi but it looked really good too. I will say their Mac salad was not amazing, they can definitely adjust that flavor profile. A bit bland and sauce too runny. For my liking at least. All in all I'd definitely get again minus the Mac. read more

It fed our entire team, and it's easily the best Hawaiian food in the entire area. The most amazing part, and the reason I'm writing this review, is the service. Within the Rodeo River Street food hall. Gated paid parking lot. Walking distance from train station if that helps you plan. Order at the register, they take your phone number, and you get a text when your order is ready. Took around 10 mins on a busy weekend for us. Casual atmosphere with a ton of shared indoor and outdoor seating. We already knew we loved this brand from their other location in Stanton. You must try their spam brûlée musubi and chicken katsu sandwich that comes with mac salad on it. Even better, they have a combo that includes two of each and a drink! Mid-$20 range with tax and small tip included as of March 2025. I could've eaten it all by myself, but split with my wife since we tried a few different places in the food hall. read more

Came here tonight for the deal on their kimchi katsu chicken. Omg. It's insanely good. The amount of food you get is insane. It's like it's 1990 prices. I don't know how they do it. They're always running specials and it's definitely with it to come by. The two guys working tonight were so awesome and helpful. Super friendly. Can't speak highly enough about tonight's experience. Got the mixed plate ($17) which comes with hawaiin mac salad, chicken katzu cutlets, kimchi butter shrimp, and rice. The mac is so good so i got an extra side of mac ($5). The plate was good to share with my wife and daughter so the portion is good. My favorite was the kimchi butter shrimp, which had a crispy batter and a flavorful sauce. The katzu cutlets also had a crispy bite from the panko crumbs. I also got a strawberry pineapple lemonade ($4.50), which was refreshing on an extremely hot summer day. I love Shootz and was excited to see them at the new Rodeo River Street. This location is just a small counter and they do not have the kimchi butter shrimp nor alcohol (unlike the Stanton location). They only sell bottled water and do not make cups of water available for customers. The food quality is the same though. Their hot kimchi butter chicken katsu sandwich topped with mac salad was just as delicious as I remembered. The mint peach lemonade was tasty too. If you're thinking about getting a couple of sandwiches, definitely go for the wavy bundle that includes a drink and a couple of their spam brûlée musubis. There is just something about this place that exudes Hawaiian vibes. We love the one in Stanton and was overjoyed to hear they were coming here. We ordered the chicken katsu combo which is flawlessly seasoned, crispy yet meat is very soft. The Mac salad is not overpowered by mayonnaise, and they give a decent portion. The spam was rationed well, not too much rice with a saucy bite. A recommendation- don't smash the rice, it takes away the fluffiness, and our rice was really smashed but maybe that's just me being picky. Service is great, they have just opened up a few months ago, and menu is different from the one in Stanton. Their refreshers are the best palate cleansers (strawberry pineapple lemonade ) looking forward to support them when we come by this area. read more

To me, THIS is what great hospitality looks like.
