We love DanceWorks! I can't say enough great things about Kathy and her team…read more When we moved to the area last year, I started looking online for places for my 5 year old to take ballet. There were a few places with great reviews but most of the moms that I knew sent their kids to DanceWorks for ballet / tap / etc. I was surprised by the lack of reviews but decided to try it out and WE LOVE IT! My daughter is always energized and happy leaving class and we are looking forward to their annual show in June where all classes get to showcase what they've learned. In addition, we just had my daughter's 6th birthday party here and I received multiple follow ups from parents telling me that their kids had so much fun at the dance party. I decided to add a review to help any parents out there who may not be aware of DanceWorks and may not hear about it through word of mouth. It's a wonderful place! Tip: Parking and the entrance is actually in the back.

Extremely Unprofessional and Accusatory Behavior by the Owner at Danceworks Studios in Montclair,…read moreNJ. I was invited as an actor by the director to shoot a film at Danceworks Studios. I had no prior relationship with the studio or its owner, Kathy. What should have been a straightforward professional experience turned into one of the most disrespectful and upsetting incidents I've encountered. During the shoot, I needed a phone charger. A crew member told me there was one behind the front desk, so I went to look. I checked the desk surface (which had a disorganized tangle of cords), opened the drawers when I didn't see anything, and eventually found a charger plugged in on the floor across from the desk. I took it and left. My face was fully visible the entire time, and I took nothing that wasn't offered. Kathy saw this on the security camera and immediately accused me of trying to rob the studio. She claimed my normal, stylish outfit looked "sketchy" and that my search for the charger appeared suspicious. She even referenced me walking in and out earlier, which happened because I have ADD and had briefly forgotten the car keys to her own sister-in-law's vehicle (the same car that had been left for me to use and was parked right outside). We had been filming openly in that lobby for hours prior, right in front of the cameras, alongside her sister-in-law and niece. There was zero context for any accusation. The situation was made worse by the irony: I was later told Kathy is "very OCD" and that's why she reacted so strongly to me opening the drawers. Yet other people on set were casually going through the same drawers for items like reading glasses with no issue, and the desk itself was one of the most disorganized messes I've seen. I was deeply offended by how I was spoken to and accused, especially as a guest invited to the space. Kathy had every opportunity to recognize me through family connections (I've appeared in years of photos with her niece on her sister-in-law's social media), yet she chose to treat me like a criminal instead. A few days later, I even called the studio, left my phone number, and asked if Kathy would offer an apology for the way I was treated. I received no response and no callback whatsoever. That complete lack of accountability speaks volumes. No one should have to deal with baseless accusations and rude treatment like this, particularly when they're there professionally and openly. I will not be returning to Danceworks Studios and strongly recommend others avoid it as well. One bad experience with the owner is more than enough.

I wanted to do a "special" dance with my son. The dance would start off as a regular slow mother-son wedding dance and then we would have surprised the guests with kicking the dance into something more lighthearted - a choreographed dance filled with a compilation of old "skool" songs and a variety of 80's dances such as the Snake and the Wop. Jose was awesome. He fabulously choreographed the dance for my son and I, then ever-so-patiently taught it to us during our one-on-two lessons. In the end, I could sense my son was a bit overwhelmed with trying to learn the dances while simultaneously planning his wedding with his bride-to-be so I scrapped the dance, telling my son we would do a regular mother-son dance together. It ended up being amazing since he incorporated the 2-step, and spins Jose had previously taught him for his wedding dance into our Mother-son dance. I've already inquired about the other classes that are taught here. They teach all different kinds on different days. I definitely recommend and I'll definitely be back to learn more.

It's been engaging given us time to bond, and Jose the owner personally prepared us for our wedding dance that wowed our guests and was such a nice touch to our wedding. We are so grateful for this experience and highly recommend this place!

When my daughter wanted to start tap lessons, she was a little older than most kids and she didn't want to be in a beginner class with all 6 year olds.  BPA had a beginner adult/teen class that was perfect.  She learned so much with Mark in one year she skipped a level the next year. My daughter loved it here so much she would get up early on Saturdays to help out as an assistant in a dance class for the little kids before her own ballet class. Elisa and Mark are professionals from Broadway, TV and film so they are very talented and are excellent teachers but also have a warm and fun environment.   My daughter is in college now training to be an actor and I know Elisa and Mark's teaching and encouragement helped her make it to college

As a long time recreational tap dancer, I was originally drawn to BPA to experience another teacher's tap style, but soon after working with Mark, he discovered what I really needed to grow - other dance styles and full body movement. Thanks to Mark, I am learning how to work with my body, which has significantly enhanced the performance quality of my tap routines. It is my pleasure to recommend Broadway Performing Arts!
