I had never been to a Shoney's before, so I went in with zero expectations--and left completely impressed. The buffet was clean, well organized, and very reasonably priced (around $14). I kept it simple: fried chicken, baked salmon, salad, and coffee, and everything was solid and satisfying. The real win here was the people. Bri, my server, was friendly and attentive without hovering, and the manager (Greg, I think) & Alisha set the tone--welcoming, kind, and clearly invested in both guests and staff. It's rare for a buffet to feel cozy, but somehow this one did. Great value, great service, and a genuinely pleasant stop in Summersville. read more

I've seen a lot of bad reviews on here. In my opinion... it's Shoney's. The buffet was well looked after, fresh and clean. Service was great. I will return. read more

This place is pretty clean but the hash brown are hard as "CONCRETE" and also had no seasoning the only good thing on the menu was the Mac and cheese, the service was excellent just the food was underwhelming. read more

Salad bar was empty whenni arrived. I was leaving and server offered to refill the salad bar. I patently waited while my wife ate. The spinach they brought out was rotten. I politely asked for fresher spinach. The guy stalking the salad bar just grunted that "that's the new one!" So he proceeded to bring out another rotten spinach. I decided not to wat. My wife felt guilty for eating without me. Terrible experience. read more

Food was cold , we waited an extreme amount of time of time for our drinks , we had to get the silverware for the kids. Buffet was never restocked the whole time we were there read more

I should have trusted the low reviews I saw for this place. Or noticed the toothless crowd of employees and customers upon entering. Or the unknown people who our server told us left after deciding they didn't want anything after being seated. Comically awful food. Unknown mystery meat that I thought was pork immediately upset my stomach, waited half an hour for them to bring out more chicken which was over cooked and mostly bone. Only other food they had was a salad bar and over ripe fruit. Servers were friendly but oblivious to the nasty food. Had to ask to get more napkins and multiple plates and cups were dirty with food still stuck to the back. Desert area had a single store bought cookie and two empty trays next to it. Cooler on the side had a couple star popsicles despite being labeled ice cream cups. Went to the bathroom on my way out due to my upset stomach. Flies were swarming the open pipe in the floor, toilet was in rough shape and barely managed to flush the liquid that came out of me after eating here. Worst food experience i've had in the last 10 years. Never going to a Shoney's again. read more

Worst Buffet ever, we had four people in our party nobody finished their first plate we were in the building for less than 15 minutes . Our bill was $80.15. Got a 10% discount woohoo. Never again could have went next door to Taco Bell for better food and prices read more

Worse place to eat!!!! I'll go to Walmart hot foods next time. I wish you could give a review without a star rating. 1 of the worst buffet places I've been into! Food was cold, burnt and disgusting. Out of 3 of us only I ate ONE plate, the other person ate a spoonful of cottage cheese and the last person didn't even eat! And they still charged us, full price for eating 1 plate of food and would not refund! Either get a better cook/food options/food or just shut down. read more

Do not mistake what appears to be edible food as edible food....unless you lack a palate for good food. I can't even call the mashed potatoes paste because I am sure the Kindergarten me has enjoyed that delicacy before and this was not that. Rolls.. 1/2 of them were hard as rocks... the other... well I am a bread fanatic... 1 bite and I just could not take another bite. Most of the attempted menu items were just lacking... any recognizable flavors. So much so, after each bite, I would utter "We should've gone to McDonald's". Now as long as I didn't look at the actual cleanliness of the food/salad bar, I did manage to make an edible salad. The cucumbers were cut so thick which is odd due to the fact that they don't like to spend money, or I assume due to lack of good food or maybe just not having anyone to prepare it correctly. I could go on but I'm going to McDonald's.... Oh can't forget,Alisha is awesome! She needs to find a better place to work! read more

Not do good for us over salted and wtf did you do to the mashed potatoes? Tastes like a bowl of sour cream not mashed potatoes can not imagine why you would put sour cream in the mashed potatoes that's disgusting. Saw several people complaining about the food. Bit worth the money. read more

I give this place 2 stars because the ladies working were always wiping down and sweeping. They keep a tidy food area. But when I walked in there were empty dirty tables and people standing around. I personally came for the salad bar but was told the lunch buffet was $9.99 including a drink. Hey sounds good. I went up for my salad and I had to pick through the iceberg lettuce. There were old black rotting leaves of green leaf lettuce mixed with the iceberg. I don't get it! So nasty! Also, I love cucumbers with my salad. Took one look at them and they looked translucent and milky! How anyone could look at that and think those are fit to serve is beyond me. I can not recommend this place for the buffet. But maybe their menu items are up to par. read more

Super friendly staff. Great food (had breakfast and lunch buffet). Older restaurant but kept very clean. Give it a try they changed management and are much better. read more

not very good. food is very sub par. experience was so so. Shoneys used to be good but has definitely gone down hill.

A buffet needs to remain reasonably stocked and this one wasn't. Not even plates at one point. Not a single plate anywhere. When the food was there, it was ordinary at best. Generously. read more

Food was really bad no plates in sight and wtf is the mashed potato's it's like someone put infinite salt in there

My husband and I went there for dinner. What attracted us was the GIANT sign that said "Dine before 9, for 8.99" we were looking forward to an affordable meal.. We go in and the lady seats us and gets our drinks. I will say the pop tasted bad, but that could just be city water we aren't used to. She asked if we just wanted the buffet and I asked if there were other options and she started listing off random sandwiches. No menu??? So I just got the salad bar. The Mac and cheese and green beans were okay but the rest was pretty rough. They advertise ice cream so I asked the lady what they have- she said "there's some in the freezer by the buffet" so I went over and there was THREE single serve vanilla ice cream cups. After their billboards having giant sundaes on them, that being all they had was really disappointing. So two of us getting a pathetic buffet and a pop was $40. Will NOT be going back. read more

This Shoney's is truly one of the most amazing places to eat at. Shoney's is my favorite place to go to in summersville. I eat hear about 6-7 days a week for breakfast lunch and dinner. They have an excellent staff that is super fast. You just get the feeling of pure happiness and bliss, when you walk through that door. I'll continue to go to this amazing establishment again and again for the rest of my life. read more

Shoney's - It's the best experience of my life. It's nice and clean. It's probably one of the best places in the world. - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Summersville, West Virginia

It's been awhile since I've eaten st Shoney's. Even sends the chain changed hands the food was sub-par. However I will have to say that this was much better. They have reworked the menu since my last visit and it's much better. They still have the buffet bar which my wife ordered and it was well stocked with fresh food. I had the shrimp and onion rings. It was flavorful and cooked good. The onion rings are some of the best I've ever had. read more

First time to visit a shoney's ever and I was overall satisfied with my visit. The waitress (christy) was very kind and did a great job.we were seated and given our silverware very quickly, drinks also came at a very reasonable amount of time. A little pricey for what it was but not outrageous. Food was very delicious and came quick. I actually would give this place 4.5 stars. If you are in the area definitely stop by and get a delicious meal before continuing on your trip. read more

This is like every other Shoney's you've ever been to. You're probably getting the buffet, and it's probably gross. I don't know whose idea it was to come here, but they must have had it in for all of our stomachs. I asked about a buffet option for vegetarians, which they surprisingly have for $5.99 (the soup, salad, veggie and fruit bar), and was repeatedly asked (in a cute southern accent), "but you don't eat chicken, riiight? cuz we have people come order that, and then they get the chicken." Haha, I got cracked up she mentioned it so many times. So, what does a vegetarian eat from this meat filled buffet? Starches, starches and more starches. I had mashed potatoes, potato salad, and potato soup...and mac 'n' cheese. I wasn't in the mood for salad. Gimme a break. Anyway, the options are pretty freakin' slim. Our waitress was the saving grace here. She was funny, personable and attentive. read more

I guess we'll never learn. Damnit same exact rating as the last time I ate at Shoneys in another state. Allow me to cut n' paste "If you have crap food for cheap. Don't serve it even if its buffet style. The quality of food you are serving will be tied to your name brand. We saw many people ordering from the menu, and I think I know why now. It might be better tasting than the buffet. But why would anyone think that. Its coming from the same kitchen. No? Friendly service at least." Funny, this time around there was a sign that the government of health stated that you could not re-use your plate at the buffet. Have they tested WHAT they serve at the buffet? read more

Food was just ok and service was acceptable but I'll not be back. Stopped in on Valentines Day for cheeseburgers. Went to pay and was told that my gift coupons were no good because it is a holiday! A HOLIDAY! So tell me - who gets off work for Valentines Day?!!! There is nothing on the coupons saying anything about such restrictions. So guess what? They are going in the trash and I'll never step foot in another Shoney's and I'll do my best to dissuade others as well. read more

This is a great location!! Came in with severe dietary restrictions and they bent over backwards to make sure I had ALL the food I could eat that fit with in my small envelope of acceptable things! Shoney's is gross. If anyone tells you any different... well their out of their dang mind! But Shoney's continues to hold near and dear memories and fondness in my heart. I grew up as a kid eating Shoney's breakfast buffet for Easter holiday with the family and it will always remain a part of me. Still, the food is typically overcooked, undercooked or just plain nasty.. but I'd still eat it anyway. read more

This was my first time eating at a Shoney's and I definitely was not impressed. We decided to eat here because it was right next to the hotel, I wish we had driven somewhere else, there were plenty of options. Service was so slow, my 85 year old grandmother walked faster than some of them. The food was awful. The one star is only for the extensive salad bar. I had the chicken pot pie and could only eat a couple of bites and my dad was not impressed with his hamburger. Not recommended. read more

I've been to Shonsys many times in many states and this one is the worst. Sunday brunch buffet and almost everything looked dry and old. Could someone please stir the items so thsy're not crusted over? The apples in liquid were turning dark. Several items like chili are way foo salty. On checkout, I had to ask to be checked out after waiting a while. Then, the proverbial question "Was everything alright?", I said "No. Someone needs to stir the food. It looks like it's been out for 3 hours". Her reply? "It hasn't been out 3 hours". WRONG RESPONSE! Will never go back fo this Shoneys. read more

Whoever runs the deep fryer over cooks and burns everything from onion rings to fish.

I've had bad experiences with other Shoney's Restaurants but I must admit, after eating at Shoney's today, I think I'm starting to change my mind! My family of 5 ate the breakfast buffet around 1030am and our waitress was quick to seat us and was such a friendly lady. She talked to all 3 of my kids like they were her best friends. We got our drinks and smaller silverware almost immediately. The breakfast buffet was fresh and delicious! Every time I went to get another plate, there was an employee checking for quality and quantity of all the dishes available. My husband said the steak strips were the best he has had for a while and even my kids cleaned their plates. I especially liked the scrambled eggs which were super fluffy and the hash browns. Today was also my son's birthday so 4 waitress' sang and gave him a free hot fudge cake. As he chowed down, the rest of my group got a dessert from the assortment of brownies, cakes and ice cream avalible at the dessert bar which were also fresh and plentiful. I wish all Shoney's Restaurants would follow this example! read more

Ate here for breakfast during a camping and white water rafting trip in the area. Food was delicious and it was a huge breakfast buffet. Service was excellent and all staff were friendly and attentive. Restaurant was clean. read more

The only reason it gets a single star is because I can't leave zero. Amongst several other unpleasant experiences were toilets that were clogged, with no flushing mechanism and when told, the management did nothing. I witnessed a lady drop the serving tongs for the spaghetti, then stick it straight back in. And the food tastes like plastic, so much so that I overheard this; "Where'd you find the ice cream?" Followed by "These are mashed potatoes." And our waitress still hasn't come back. Save your money, and your intestines. read more

The worst shoneys ever. Server didn't notify that the soup was not yet out for the lunch buffet and asked some dumb ass shit like "oh did you want soup?" Like my mother ordered the soup and salad to just get the fucking salad? Nastiest pancakes I've ever had. Not to mention there's 4 tables and 5 waitresses but we've been standing at the front to pay when the servers are in eye shot, playing on their phone. I am typing this as I wait for someone to come over and pay attention to us. If you want someone to pay for their meal I highly suggest you pay attention to them while they are at the register. I've been working in the restaurant industry for 5 years and have never seen anything so blatantly disrespectful not only to the customer but to their business. Just passing through town and needed to sit down for a decent meal, not fast food. Wish we could've done the right thing and pay for our shit meal, didn't even complain about the crap pancakes to mention to get them off of bill. Any restaurant that takes more pride in the souvenirs and gifts located in the front of the store than service or quality shouldn't be in the industry. Wish I could've gotten her name so the boss knows who to fire. And next time someone asks for a Togo drink, wouldn't hurt to ask if they want a fresh one. read more

Would absolutely not recommend this shoney's. Shoney's company is good but this restaurant is the worst of the worst been there 3 times because I'm not the type of person to make an opinion of a place based off of one visit but every time I go the food is never hot some of it tastes spoiled. The last time I went there I asked the waitress if they could change the food out because it was all cold and you could tell it had been out for far longer than the recommended amount of time. After doing this I could hear them in the back of the store complaining because my request was too much for their fat asses to do will never go back to this Shoney's ever again! read more
