If you've been to one Applebee's anywhere, you've sort of been to them all as they are all cookie cutter-like identical, with the minor exception of some local art. Applebee's Grill + Bar in Summerville is no exception to that general rule. The good part about that is, if you are traveling, no surprises. Though all their food may be only mediocre at best, which I found it to be here, rest assured the place will be clean, well run, and the service good. I really got a chuckle out of some of their menu items, like boneless chicken wings. Boneless wings? Really? Being from the Buffalo area, that sort of sounds like some kind of venial culinary sin to me. But as they also had bone-in wings, they've covered themselves. Be all that as it may, I went for their Bourbon Street Steak which turned out to be a nice piece of top sirloin dowsed with Cajun spices served on a sizzling platter. As I eat my meat rare and knowing they were going to use a sizzling platter, I cautioned them in advance to leave it rare enough that the heat from the platter wouldn't turn it into well done by the time I got to eat it. And to my surprise, they did heed to what I said, so I did get it rare. And though Cajun spices alone do not make a Cajun steak, I have to say it was pretty good. Where does a reviewer start with a poorly run establishment such as this? This was one of the poorest-run Applebee's I've ever been to. Started out being greeted and seated quickly and that's the one star. A good judge of a restaurant is how well-kept bathrooms are and I didn't take that advice from a good friend. I always go into a bathroom first anyways so that advice makes more sense to me now. This bathroom was disgusting. The urinals looked like they hadn't been scrubbed for 6 months or longer. The floor was greasy and slippery and overall a liability to the owners. We ordered drinks when initially seated and those were brought to us rapidly. Our server Kelly came to our table. She asked us if we were ready to order and we proceeded to try to start providing our order. My other good friend started to give his order and Kelly stopped him mid-sentence to go to the front door (not too far from where we were seated) to seat two of her regulars. They were an older sweet couple so I can overlook that for their comfort. Kelly turned around to our table and looked like she was not even sure where she was. My friend who had started his order asked if she was ok because we weren't sure if she was. She was ok luckily, and we proceeded to order. I explicitly stated my salad was "Gluten Sensitive" as I ensured I was the last one to order. Our table took forever to get our food. We were told by Kelly that our food was next to come out. We then watched two other tables get their food and ours hadn't come out yet. My two friends entrees came out and I was still waiting on my salad. Once the grilled chicken salad I ordered came out, it had a breadstick and croutons on it. I brought the mix-up, up to Kelly that I am gluten sensitive and can't have any bread items and it would have to be completely remade. After 15 minutes when I had not received an update or gotten the salad, I called Kelly over. She immediately stated he was still working on it. I asked her to just cancel as we were on a long road trip and needed to stay on schedule and needed to go. She let the manager know who came out with excuses as to why/how the mix-up happened. I let her know "gluten sensitive" should clue them in to include no bread items period. She continued to try to make excuses and cover for the mix-up. I could have let all of this slide if she had just owned it and said yes we screwed it up, and it shouldn't take that long to bring that menu item out. Oh, almost forgot. My friend ordered the grilled chicken with shrimp and the shrimp were semi-transparent meaning they weren't even cooked all the way. As we're sitting our waitress complained she was being sat with us because come to find out she can only handle one table at a time. After waiting forever for her to never get to us we asked to just move into the bar area. Not a huge fan of Applebee's but this was really bad. We had been on the road for hours and needed to stop. We ordered the bourbon st chicken and shrimp, and the shrimp stir fry. What you see in the pics is what wasn't edible. They clearly microwaved the bourbon st chicken to the point of being rubber, the potatoes were nuclear hot so I had to wait to eat them but then they turned to hard lumps that you couldn't eat. Service was not much better than food, when your customers aren't eating the food you should ask if there is a problem. Giving I worked in the food industry for 15 years I'm qite understanding, but when you get your appatizer before your drinks, u kno its going to b an experience! Then your waitress comes & takes the table that gets seated rite beside you, she takes their drink order, then proceeds to tell you she'll b rite back w your drinks. Then we eat our appetizer, wait for 30 more minutes before we ask for our salads! We ordered the 2 for $25 plus got desert! My husband had to ask for a refill, then by the time I was done w my desert she finally asked if I wanted a refill so since we waited so long & was ready to leave i said yes I'll take one to go... Needless to say because we had the promo to get a free app, they acted like we wanted a free meal! We never 1 time complained about how crappy our service was which the waitress was sweet as can be, just crappy service! This place is conveniently located in summersville near the hospital and other restaurants. I ordered the Parmesan steak and shrimp. I asked the steak to be well done and it was more medium well. It was ok but I wish it was cooked a little more. The shrimp and Parmesan sauce was very good though. I added a backed potato as my side but it was pretty much burnt. The side salad and ranch was good and the croutons tasted homemade. The waitress was not that nice to us and I asked 3x for the same thing but she never came back to the table besides for our food and the check. I'm really giving this place credit for one star. Truthfully, they deserve less. On a weekend trip to West Virginia for a family reunion, we stopped in a familiar restaurant for dinner. Being from Baltimore, Maryland I can assure you I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth. Usually, I don't complain much for poor service and subpar food. But for the first time in a verrryyyyyyy long time, Applebee's pissed me off. It all started when we pulled into the lot. A red flad was when 8 employees were outside on their phones and smoking next to a side door. I thought it was unprofessional and thought of my teenage years when I was a bus boy and they didn't allow smoking anywhere near customers. When we walked in the front door their was not a hostess. We waited a good 5 minutes but eventually the hostess got off her smoke break to seat us. I noticed something odd. All the wait staff were wearing beer shirts.... Our waitress came to take a drink order. My mother and father in law ordered a blue moon draft. But they couldn't enjoy it right away. You see, they had to go to the hotel to get their ID. Clearly older then 21. But that's not the biggest issue because law and policy reigns supreme. They came back with their IDs and along came our other drinks as well. I watched my father in law take a sip of his blue moon and make a funny face. "Taste this," he exclaimed. After a quick sip it was clear the draft lines are dirty and the beer tasted the same. But we didn't complain.... They took our order and the wait begun! But when asked for Mac and cheese the waitress said "it's Kraft so it's the good stuff." Mind = blown 30 minutes later our salads came. Mine was 40% rotten lettuce. I ate what I could and then couldn't stomach anymore. See pictures. My in law was given his French onion soup and it was halfway filled with a tiny piece of cheese. See picture. After we stated the disappointment, they comped the soup and salad. 20 minutes later come the main course. 3 steaks cooked with with ice cold uncooked carrots. I had a order of honey barbecue wings. I took one bite and noticed it was rotten chicken. But at this point I was so irritated I told myself I wouldn't say anything. But when the the waitress seen the uneaten wings, I couldn't lie. She told the manager and a young, douche bag manager comes over to tell me that the wings are fresh everyday and that nothing is wrong with them. Again, I'm not a person that ever complains this bad! But wow.... Just wow. He told me that he already comped my salad and he can't comp anymore. Well thank you mr. Douche bag manager with your sears button up shirt. It was so nice of him to give me a free brown salad with complimentary rotten lettuce. I simply told him I'll pay for it and it's a small price to pay compared to getting sick. This was truly the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. Two other tables around me complained of poor service and long waits for food. I could go on and on with the horrible service, food and atmosphere Applebee's in Summerville, WV provided. I was so irritated that I gabbed my tired son and waited in the car for the rest to try and finish their horrible meals. When I was out there I snapped a pic of these horrible cooks and wait staff smoking outside. I watched one of them go back in a deliver someone's food Straight from smoking. When the family came back outside they couldn't even finish their meals. Another couple in the parking lot was on the phone filing a complain with their corporate offices. But to end this horrible review with a cherry on top I must share one last thing. When they were walking out and said goodbye to the waitress, she told them she just got out of jail for drugs. Ok... Once our food came it was all cold and our food wasnt even on the correct plates, other food was also undercooked. Once eating we ordered dessert and waited over 30 minutes, by that time my lava cake was almost as cold as the icecream. After finishing the desert we waited 20 minutes for a bill an at that point they had put the wrong food on the bills.
