What a surprise hidden gem! We started with the sashimi appetizer. We also had Louis Roll (Yellow tail, salmon, asparagus, tempura flakes inside, Escolar and jalapeno on top. Sunrise Roll (Tuna, avocado, fried asp inside, Spicy tuna on top). Sushi Sandwich (Spicy tuna, eel, avocado, krab inside. 4 color tobiko on top). Everything was fresh and delicious. There are very few dining options in Williston on a Sunday afternoon, especially after 2pm. We found this place and decided to give it a go. The staff was very friendly and welcomed us in with a smile. We ordered drinks and decided on some sushi and one of their lunch specials. My wife had the tempura chicken roll. It was five large pieces and she said it was good. I ordered the chicken tempura bento box as their lunch special. It came with salad and soup along with the chicken and veggie tempura, a California roll, a spring roll and white rice. It was a great deal and really fills you up! Shogun is a great place to go even if there were many options to choose from, but it was good to know they are here even when there aren't! read more

I was pleasantly surprised to find a Japanese restaurant in Williston Florida. Not exactly an authentic Japanese restaurant, but not bad for rural Florida. The soup and ginger salad are good enough, and the entrees are OK. But the sushi was very fresh and well prepared. After all, that's why we go to Japanese restaurants. They can definitely improve their main cuisines, as they tasted something like you'd find in a food court at a shopping mall. Overall, the restaurant appeared to be relatively clean with a decent crowd. I arrived at 8:35. They close at 9:00, which I was immediately told upon entering the restaurant. If they want to close at 8:30, then they should do that rather than scolding guests that arrive close to closing time. I felt rushed, especially when they started putting the chairs on top of the tables before closing time. Kind of kills the ambiance and makes the place feel like a fast food restaurant run by teenagers ready to go party rather than a full service restaurant serving $20+ entrees. When you open the door to Shogun in Williston, you are immediately struck by two things. The decor and the hostess. Your eyes dart around the room taking in colorful lighting, dark wood, sushi boats, sake, as well as the Itamae (Sushi Chef). The gentlemen who creates magic, flavor and artistry behind the sushi bar for all to watch and appreciate while dining. If you care to do so (which I personally very much enjoy). Very intimate, yet still maintains an open feel and overall aesthetically pleasing. You're greeted by the hostess, who in my case seems to be perpetually in hight spirits every time you walk in the door. Then very quickly seated. Dependant on the time of day you arrive you may receive a lunch menu. Which has a vast array of bento meals you can choose from. That come in tastes eclectic enough for anyone's palette. From the norm to completely adventurous. Or later in the evening the full dinner menu. Which you can also request to see and order from at lunch if you're wanting more than is available. Now if you're still reading this here's the good nitty-gritty gem of what makes this place worth the time to review. Their food is flavorful, affordable, and plenty. You'll leave with extras I'm almost positive. They provide a menu extensive and authentic enough for a person like me who had lived in Japan and Hawaii, that's looking for the push of the envelope and familiar memories and flavors. To the less adventurous, that simply want great food, amazing service and something slightly different. However within their comfort range. Then there is this... my fiance and I have eaten here at least once a week since opening day. We've been impressed with the food each and every time. However what keeps us coming back is the ladies and gentlemen that work there. They go above and beyond to try and provide you with everything and anything you may potentially want or need. As well as actually, truly and genuinely trying to get know you and your likes and dislikes. As an example out of the many I have. I'll use the time we brought my mother to Shogun. The waitress asked us what we would like to drink. My mother wanted coffee, they don't actually have that readily available. But our waitress had her own personal instant coffee that she quickly offered to her. Not to mention the multiple times we've been there and they have suggested a dish that wasn't on the menu but something they knew we may enjoy. Shogun maybe a chain in name. However Williston's Shogun has stepped up and embraced the small town vibe and heart in every way imaginable. A place you'd expect to find in Gainesville vs the quaint town of Williston florida. A town full of local owned good down home cooking (which are all very scrumptious). A town where your waitresses, cooks and owners know you by name. Where did this place come from? Nestled next to a Taco Bell and a Dominos in a small Florida town, awesome sushi is the last thing you think you would find here. It's like finding a computer in a Roman archeological dig. Service was prompt and friendly, even though the place was packed. I had a chicken Tappen that was great, Goya were good, but what really shined was the sushi. We had a spicy smooth concoction with shrimp and fish eggs that was outta this world. Sushi was decent, prices are good, but the soy sauce is disgusting. I love the sodium free Kikkoman soy sauce but they are either severely watering theirs down or using another brand which is horrible. We even tried the traditional Kikkoman soy sauce that my boyfriend typically uses and it didn't taste right either. The miso soup had no flavor. They didnt provide small plates for sharing/apps so we had to use our napkins and drip sauce everywhere. Lastly, the menu was confusing. There was a menu to fill out with a pencil that had different items then both the lunch menu and picture menu, and items on those menus were not on the menu to fill out. I could get over the last two complaints but without soy sauce and miso soup at a Japanese restaurant, it ruined our meal. read more

I had the lunch chicken and noodles special it was good but I wouldn't ever serve a all white dish. My meal needed vegetables to add some color. The white sauce is a little sweet not great for flavor. Service, cleanlness, and friendliness are all great for a small town restaurant. Glad to have a sushi restaurant in Levy county! And yes... this is a full fledged sushi joint! Not the sushi you find at a Chinese restaurant and more than just california rolls. We had a bento box and some sushi and rolls. Had wakame salad (seaweed salad) as an appetizer... was amazing!!Bento box was decent. The sushi and rolls were great! Fresh fish, however I thought the size of the fish pieces was a little small compared to what I'm used to getting at my normal sushi place in gainesville.
