The food at shogun sushi is very good. The sushi is fresh and has lots of different types to order. The only ones I don't think I would order again were the hand rolls. The ratio of rice to fish was too much rice. Hot items were good. The cheese wontons were nice, scallops were hot and spring rolls and chicken wings were good. The matcha ice tea was nice and not freezer burnt. After getting our initial drinks it took a while to get a refill, I had been empty for some time before I was able to flag down the server. The biggest thing that is the deterrent for me was the price. For 3 of us the total bill came out to $164. Granted, this was a Saturday dinner + 3 orders of soda but that's still a lot of money. read more

Just a regular sushi place -- nothing special. It could be so much better if they cleaned the whole restaurant properly. They really need to do a deep cleaning throughout the entire place. The food itself is fine, but if they served the exact same dishes in a cleaner environment, the experience would be much more enjoyable. The service, however, is very nice -- all the girls are always friendly and kind with my family. This place is almost always busy. Most of their business is sushi customers, however they do have a regular Asian menu. I've eaten from both and it's all tasty. Service has always been great every time I've been, and the food is tasty. The ambiance seems typical for a sushi restaurant. Very modern with some Asian touches. The bathroom could use some extra cleaning because it smells, but everything works and soap/paper towels are always available. Prices are what I'd expect for sushi. Typical. Okay, so this is absolutely not your traditional sushi restaurant and you cannot go in expecting such. My friends and I visited this restaurant two times during our stay in Canada, and we all enjoyed it thoroughly! You pay a flat rate (depending on day of the week and time of day) and you are able to order all you can eat until lunch time ends or the restaurant closes. We really enjoyed being able to break up things we were eating with other foods rather than just having one entree. I liked trying new things and we always made sure to eat everything before we ordered more. They will charge for wasted food, so you just have to cautious. The servers are very kind and deserve praise. It can get a bit loud in here during lunch time, and the parking lot is horrendous. But I still enjoyed my experience and we are hoping we find something similar in the U.S. because we are going to miss it! read more

We've had take out about 4 times in the last2 months. This review on the last one, three days ago. We called ahead and ordered a party tray 2 since we were feeding 4 adults. The tray has sushi and maki. We also ordered miso soup and were told we get that complimentary with the party tray 2 order! We picked up the tray after 40 minutes. The sushi tasted fresh and was well prepared. The maki (rolls) was also nicely prepared. You can tell that the tray was prepared to order and not in advance. The only less than perfect roll was the mango roll. The sauce was nice but the mango pieces were green (not ripe) and therefore a little chewy. All in all, very good platter for a reasonable price ($62.00). We'll be back soon! read more

I love this place. The service is not the fastest, but every time we ordered rolls and various dishes, they tasted great and the fried items fresh. I think a place like this is to be savoured and sit and chat while you digest. I have never had to go but a friend swore that she liked to order a boat of sushi to eat in the hotel with her kids and it was always good. Love how you have great options in town. read more

The sushi was not good at all, I got tremendously ill after eating at Shogun Sushi, I came in from St. Joseph Island, looking for a nice place to eat, and my friends had recommended this place to me, but I will never return, I had to be on medication for food poisoning, the place is gross, there can be some communication barriers, which is not convenient, and they charge you EXTRA if you don't eat your whole plate of sushi, I would never recommend anyone come here if their lives depended on it, please save your money and take your business elsewhere!!! read more

Really good Canadian all-you-can-eat Sushi. For a fixed price, you just keep ordering lunch or dinner, which is then made and brought to you. Much fresher and personalized than an Yankee sushi buffet, and pretty well-priced (particularly for lunch). Their rolls could be a little more creative, particularly as they do have some more interesting (though not outlandish) seafood options, including squid and clam. It's a really great stop when in Canadian Sault for the day, with friendly staff and a good vibe. Can get crowded at lunch. read more

This was a great find when we had a stopover on the way back to Toronto. The food was very good and the AYCE sushi was very reasonably priced. The edamame was fresh and perfectly cooked. The rolls were all good and tightly rolled. Avoid the Thai dishes as the curry was very watery. The beef and mushroom dish was great. The service is a little awkward and could be friendlier but this is definitely a place a will come back to when passing through the Soo. (The reason I am giving it a 4 star is because of it's location in the north. It would be a 3 star in Toronto) read more

Sushi was fresh but basic. The iPad ordering was a little confusing, and we didn't (at first) understand that it was all you can eat for one price. The tempura was cold and too thick, but the coconut shrimp mango roll was so yummy, we ordered two. The hot tea was very good and the rolls, thankfully were not slathered in sauce. Having been to many, many sushi restaurants, this place was "just okay." Not sure I'd go back, but not the worst choice either. Definitely not a classy joint. read more

Started off with pleasant decor to look at inside, a decent Japanese beer to drink, and a tasty cucumber roll. From there it went a bit south. You place your order on an iPad, which is cool, though I don't think our order got processed correctly through it. Waited awhile to get our dinner. The one star is mostly for the long wait times and then the disappointingly small portion size of the red curry I ordered. It was also ridiculously spicy and hot in temperature, almost as though they emptied too much spice packet and then blasted it in he microwave before serving. My boyfriend also ordered udon and the portion was so tiny he had to order more food to fill up (me too). My recommendation would be to ditch the iPad and increase portion sizes to start! read more

The staff was cold and never smiled. The appetizers came after the meal was served. My husband s food came after mine was done. The meat was grossly and the brocoli was almost raw. Located beside the Super 8 motel on Great Northern Road 17N (motel row) I have been stopping at Shogun for a couple of years every time I make a cross country trip. The restaurant is located in a revamped fast food chain building surrounded by a parking lot. After a long drive on a cross country trip I always opt for a simple bento box, so I can't really comment on anything else. The decor is simple with three separate seating areas and the kitchen at the back. While not the best sushi or tempura it is a nice change from everything else that is available on the highway. Better than mall sushi and good for sushi available in the Sault. read more

After a wonderful day in agawa canyon We decided to stop in for some "great Japanese" cuisine. The place was really crowded and we had to wait a little bit for our drinks then our waiter brought an iPad and said pick out what you want while I'm not a fan of sushi everyone in the restaurant that had it seemed to be enjoying it immensely. We ordered an appetizer of tempura shrimp which was very good then we ordered seafood mix odan. Having had it in the past I was looking forward to a nice bowl of noodles and Seafood I was sorely disappointed Seafood mix appears to be six salad shrimp. Very large chewy gummy noodles 3 pieces of broccoli and some Chinese cabbage in a very lackluster broth. When we told the waiter that the seafood mix was only shrimp he said are you sure he then went back to the kitchen and came back and told us that there was supposed to be clams in the soup said he apologized for the cook. If you like sushi this seems to be the place to go otherwise don't bother read more

I love how they do the ordering way where you have a list of everything and then simply write in how much of the items you want, but I wish that you would get a second sheet when you want to order more rather than simply just writing on the same page. I find that the staff can be a bit... Bitchy... In a sense where it almost seems that you being there is a burden to them. I also didn't like how they don't have vanilla ice cream, and how when they take your dessert order you can only have one as compared to JC where for ice cream you can order numerous and all the flavours to try if you wish to do so. The server kept coming and filling everyone's glass of water up ever 5minutes even when we had barely taken any of it. In regards to that they had to reach across the table to grab our glass to fill it up and rather than asking if we wanted water they would just stick out their hand and wait for us to hand them the glass which I found to be somewhat rude... If I was just rating the food, I would give it four stars because it was yummy and very reasonably priced. However the service was horrible. We had a serious language barrier with our waitress. She messed up our order several times. One time she brought my mom soup and salad that she didn't order. Instead of just leaving it on the table, she slid the bowl of soup over to me since I had ordered soup and whisked the salad back to the kitchen. I suspect it was later served to someone else. None of the staff smiled or were pleasant. They seemed bothered by our presence. Go for take out! read more

Was in town for the weekend and wanted to satisfy our cravings for sushi, saw the takeout menu at our hotel, drove to the restaurant. The restaurant, a converted fast food place is sparsely decorated, but appeared clean. There was no hostess or host so we just sat ourselves. A male server came to take our beverage order and then just set a tablet down on the table with no explanation. Now, I'm pretty tech savvy and have no problem with playing around with a tablet to view a menu, but when I go to a "restaurant," I expect someone to take my order, but NO-O-O-O, we were supposed to place our order on the tablet. Ok. I don't really have a problem with placing an order on a tablet, but when your tablet menu item numbers do not match your takeout menu so I can't place an order for the items I want, I get surly. On your take out menu, you have a shrimp and vegetable tempura item, on the tablet it is "a la carte." I mean, really, do you really think I want to tap on the pictures of each item--scrolling as we go--2 shrimp, 2 mushroom, 2 yam, 2 green bean? Get real. When I made mention of this to the male "server" he rolled his eyes and got huffy with us and somewhat dismissed us (rather than helping us place our order as he could discern our frustration--rather than helping he just walked away--terrible, terrible, terrible customer 'service.' So, we left--going down the street to the Tandoori Garden for some delicious Indian food where there was a server who took our order, delivered our delicious food and had an enjoyable meal. Your shop lost over $90 US (not including tip) in sales last night--and deservedly so. I am not impressed with your shop, your disagreeable male server and your tablet ordering. You need to change the sign on the front of the store from Ipad menu "available" to IPAD MENU MANDATORY as it is evident that your servers just want to deliver food, not take orders. If you want to order each item of food "a la carte" and not have stellar service, then go to Shogun Sushi. If you want a true restaurant experience go elsewhere. I don't want to work so hard to spend $90 on food. I go to restaurants to be served, not to order the food myself. Next thing you know you'll need to wash your own dishes! I need to tell you that the food is okay at this restaurant, however, the service is terrible!! They act like you are interfering with their plans by being in their restaurant. We had to wait 45 minutes for one item...and that was after asking two separate servers to please check on our order. Forget having cream in your coffee because they only carry cream every once every so often. I saw a male server drop a large plate of maki rolls on the floor in the middle of the restaurant and he and a coworker picked them up and put them back on the plate. I thought they were going to go back to the kitchen with it, but they walked further down the aisle and then turned and served this plate of Maki Rolls to the table on the far side against the window. I could not believe my eyes....Also, when I asked for more coffee they reached across the table took my cup and walked away with it into their kitchen and filled it up back there. We have tried this spot a few times hoping that perhaps that changes would be made, but after this we will not try them again. read more
