    White fish bites
    Lisa R.

Was super excited to try this place based an a video I had seen about Sault St. Marie. The atmosphere was as expected, all about the licks, shipping, and history or the restaurant and the area. It has a great view of the locks and is really a cool atmosphere. The service was so so, it wasn't busy when we were there but it took a long time to get drinks, or and get food. My husband ordered a Blue Moon and they served it in a mug that was so small it can only be described as a child size root beer mug. I had heard about their famous smoked whitefish spread so we got that as a starter, so disappointed. It was a lot of cream cheese, very little white fish and very little flavor, basically it tasted like cream cheese. The burger was okay, average pub food. However, the whitefish bites were really good, large portion to share or could be a meal. Overall just average place.

On are way to Canada to fish, stopped off here. Great place, fresh whitefish and a wonderful staff. Highly recommend.

The Whitefish chowder was absolutely delicious, I am so glad I ordered it. The chicken strips were also good. The service was friendly and fast. The place had a water boat theme and was clean.

We got here toward the end of their night on a weeknight. My husband started with a vodka martini--which was done well. Food was very good. I tried the fried whitefish. I don't recall what my husband had. The atmosphere's warm and rustic with knotty pine paneling. A large dining room is in the front with picture windows around all 3 sides. You can see the locks from the front room. We sat in the back room and it has more knotty pine paneling and subdued lighting.

Our first time here, had to experience what all the hype is about. I ordered the classic white fish, dinner, and my girl ordered the golf shrimp. Super happy about all of it.

Lock view is a must try if you are visiting the Soo Locks. It's a short walk from the locks or the other shops. There should be plenty of street parking. This facility is a bit dated in decor. It is clean and welcoming. Everyone was very friendly. Our waitress was outstanding and made us feel like we were regulars. The menu is pretty large so you can always find something. We tried the walleye and white fish baskets. The French fries were nice and crispy without being to greasy. The white fish had a rather thick breading they was a bit greasy. The white fish piece was large and meaty. The fish was fresh tasting and delicious. The tarter sauce was heavy on the Mayo side. It didn't have much relish or sweetness to pull you in. The Cole slaw had a slight horseradish bit but otherwise was very heavy on the Mayo.

Walleye dinner. I chose lemon pepper, a salad and mashed potato for sides.

We have been here twice in less than 24 hours. For dinner we both chose a walleye dinner. There are 3 different walleye meals and the same or more of whitefish. Plenty of delicious choices. Beware there are two steps to get inside. If mobility is an issue you might have trouble. We came back for breakfast as well, since the hotel had some crap coffee. This places coffee is not that great either, but the food is great. Today's special was Eggs Benedict. The service is pretty good too.

Old cafe style restaurant right across from the locks. We parked on the street with no issues. You can park on either side of the street and I think they have parking in the back. We were seated right away and had great service. My wife had a shrimp basket and I had pan fried whitefish. Both dinners the seafood was excellent and the rest was ok. My fish was very large and I couldn't finish it. Highly recommend this place for their seafood.

This is the kind of place I look for when traveling: rich in history, prime location, filled with locals, homey food, and reasonably priced. Fish chowder was the best thing I ever ate! Rich, creamy, smoky, and hot! Nice they let you sub for fries as a side. White fish sandwich was cooked perfectly, hot and crispy. Try to get a window seat to check out the lock and people watch.

Watch the ships or the people on the sidewalk and park. Easy parking. Fish that was swimming yesterday. Great stop!

The walleye at the Elks is worthy of a trip regardless of everything else. After time in Hawaii, Miami, North Carolina, and San Francisco I have had some great fish; today I'm adding Sault Ste Marie's Elks Club (552) to my list of great fish places. The people working are committed to the club. And YES, the club was open to the public for dinner. Service was outstanding and many people are regulars / know each other which adds to the charm of the club - definitely small town in all the best ways. Cold beer at the bar, great fish (walleye), good fries and above average slaw made this a meal worth sharing. Friendly people serving, and checking on your service as well as the meal, even though they weren't our server but because they sincerely, genuinely care about us as customers is really unique and nice! Parking is easy. The view of the waterway is exceptional. The bar is old school. And a lot of fun. Yes, they have ship shots. You don't have to be a member of the Elks, but maybe it is something you should consider. Regardless, check out the Elks Club when it is open to the public, and ENJOY yourself!!!

We didn't have reservations, so picked up a buzzer from the hostess and joined the crowd waiting in the gift shop or lounging around at the entrance. Our wait was about a half hour, and we were seated in a rear dining room that should receive a Gold Medal for Eclectic Design. Our table was covered in laminated Detroit Tiger baseball cards, and the walls were plastered with beer company paraphernalia and Detroit sports memorabilia. Our server Aimy brought our meal -a Cheeseburger Platter ($11.99), and for me a cup of Clam Chowder ($4.49) and Shrimp Steamers ($14.99). My meal was excellent, the chowder was served piping hot and was loaded with chopped clams and potatoes. And man, oh man, were the shrimps great. They were a half pound served shell-on "Caribbean style" with lemon and cocktail sauce. Yes, they were messy to eat but were so worth the mess. Aimy helped me out with a few wet naps. We had an excellent experience here.

The waitress, while friendly enough, did not have a good grasp of the English language. And all for just under $50. This place is definitely not depending on repeat business. Compared to this, place, Long John Silvers is 5 star dining. Walked away hungry and $50 lighter. I won't be back.
