We stopped here during our evening of walking fudgie lane. Our server was kind and prompt with our orders and food and the restaurant was clean with a fun ambiance of freighters and fishing. I had the Cajun whitefish with salad and sweet potato fries. The fish was a bit oily, would recommend ordering with a light oil but the sweet potato fries were spot on delicious. My daughter had a burger and fries which she thoroughly enjoyed, the fries were crunchy and salty on the outside and soft in the middle. Great food and service. So good that my wife wanted a return visit the next night! Whitefish was incredible. Crisp and flaky batter along with homemade tartar sauce. Neither of us are big on tarter sauce but we both enjoyed theirs. The Poutine was enough for a meal. Crisp fries with gravy and cheese make for a decadent indulgence. The only problem we had was that they charged a credit card surcharge on a debit card, even though that's against Federal law. They claimed their terminal could not differentiate between debit and credit. Would have been a five-star review if not for that. Still highly recommended for the food and service. The place was quite busy when we got there, but despite that, we got seated right away. Our server was pretty nice, very attentive, and always checked on us. I ordered the soup, which was really good! I just forgot what kind it was, lol. The shrimp was okay, but a little on the oily side. My husband really enjoyed his food too, he had the white fish. This was such a quaint, amazing little restaurant on the main drag in Sault St. Marie. Right across the street are the locks, and you can see through the park some of the freighters that come through. They also have a live feed viewable on a TV in the dining area. Now the good and service - both amazing! We were sat quickly, our server was extremely attentive and the menu items were great. We were in for breakfast though I'd love to grab lunch there, around 9/9:30A it did start to pick up so while we didn't have a wait, I would expect one during prime times. The whitefish breakfast (MTO how you like, Cajun or lemon pepper or plain and can pick how you would like it cooked) was as phenomenal. Was super excited to try this place based an a video I had seen about Sault St. Marie. The atmosphere was as expected, all about the licks, shipping, and history or the restaurant and the area. It has a great view of the locks and is really a cool atmosphere. The service was so so, it wasn't busy when we were there but it took a long time to get drinks, or and get food. My husband ordered a Blue Moon and they served it in a mug that was so small it can only be described as a child size root beer mug. I had heard about their famous smoked whitefish spread so we got that as a starter, so disappointed. It was a lot of cream cheese, very little white fish and very little flavor, basically it tasted like cream cheese. The burger was okay, average pub food. Our hotel recommended this place given they had an "all you can eat" whitefish special. It also had good reviews on Yelp. So we drove into "downtown" Sault Sainte Marie across from the locks. The place was hopping given it was a Saturday night. Our waitress was running the whole night. I don't know if they're understaffed, but she was hustling. We put our order in for drinks and our meal. We finished our salads by the time I got my drink. The waitress said she had to make it herself given the bartender was so backed up (or a rookie). I went for the Whitefish prepared both Cajun style and pan fried and it was very good. My wife got the salmon baked on a plank with an excellent glaze. The fries were very tasty. I regret forgetting to take pictures of our food! We ordered the fried walleye meal, the cajun whitefish meal, and the chowder. The whitefish chowder was tasty but had ham in it which overpowered the flavor of the fish. The walleye and whitefish served with the meal were so large. The breading was delicious and crispy. The restaurant has a view adjacent to the lock but definitely not of the lock itself, so the view is beautiful but don't expect to be looking right down on the lock. Lock view is a must try if you are visiting the Soo Locks. It's a short walk from the locks or the other shops. There should be plenty of street parking. This facility is a bit dated in decor. It is clean and welcoming. Everyone was very friendly. Our waitress was outstanding and made us feel like we were regulars. The menu is pretty large so you can always find something. We tried the walleye and white fish baskets. The French fries were nice and crispy without being to greasy. The white fish had a rather thick breading they was a bit greasy. The white fish piece was large and meaty. The fish was fresh tasting and delicious. The tarter sauce was heavy on the Mayo side. It didn't have much relish or sweetness to pull you in. We have been here twice in less than 24 hours. For dinner we both chose a walleye dinner. There are 3 different walleye meals and the same or more of whitefish. Plenty of delicious choices. Beware there are two steps to get inside. If mobility is an issue you might have trouble. We came back for breakfast as well, since the hotel had some crap coffee. As yearly visitors to the Soo, we're always sure to eat at the Lockview Restaurant in downtown Sault Ste. Marie USA. We can count on excellent fish dishes (whitefish is our favorite) and tonight was another wonderful meal. Great whitefish baskets included light-as-air battered fresh caught whitefish, sweet potato fries for me (regular fries for my husband), creamy coleslaw, lots of lemon. Our fabulous server Mel made it even more special. Her cheery friendliness and beautiful smile combined with her experience as a thoughtful server was great. Regarding ambience: I love tradition but maybe a tiny update is in order. At the very least, please do something to make getting in the front door a bit easier. That first step for those us with arthritis is a doozy. My wheelchair wouldn't have made it either. read more

We've eaten here twice now and find it's pretty consistent with affordable pricing. With a great view of the Soo Locks, this place is always bumping. While you can always seem to get a table, it's worth noting that it can take a bit to get service. This last visit he had the eggs Benedict special which he noted was "very citrusy" and upon trying my French toast, I noticed that the flavor was heavy in vanilla. While neither were bad, it was definitely noticeable that the cook had a heavy hand. I can't say we've had any complaints, just make sure you're not looking for a quiet place when you come and that you're okay with waiting a bit. It is a doorway back to a simpler time with old time ambience of the area -- knotty pine, shipping /locks theme and it is directly across from the locks so no need to rush across town to see a ship go through. The food is very good -- the local fish is fantastic in any form (this time we had whitefish chowder). The fried curds are a tasty treat, too. The service is good to boot. We had Breakfast today at this Wonderful Place! But today we were not impressed. We were seated by the Carl Bradley Picture and news paper clipping of its sinking! Our server who was not very friendly and the service from her poor. We got there shortly after Cburch, about 11.20. Yes it was busy and we received our food about 40 minutes later. My Wife never got a refill of water and she never returned to our table to inquire if needed anything else. The food and coffee were Amazing. But the served less then what we have come to enjoy while dining. We asked for our bill, paid it and were on our way. I realize she was busy and perhaps new...but a smile and a acknowledgment of that fact would go along way in redeeming her or himself. We will continue to use this Fine Restaurant in the future hoping that the service improves. read more

I will start by saying I don't like giving bad reviews because it's hard on businesses, which are the things that keep a city going strong. I decided to give this restaurant a second chance after going there for Pech, which was so greasy that oil dripped from the perch. I showed it to our server, who asked me if I would like to have them remake it. I declined, seeing as if it would be cooked in the same oil. I did not eat the perch; I just ate dinner salad. The server saw that I didn't eat the perch and offered to take my coffee off the bill--really, the coffee! So I paid for the perch dinner that I didn't eat and it was pricey. After a year or so, we decided to try this restaurant again. In the waiting area to be seated, there's a sign posted that says they have the right not to serve rude customers. Now, there is Customer Service 101. The hostess seemed irritated and was not very nice. We were told that our wait would be about 20 minutes. As we are sitting in the waiting area waiting to be seated a couple of two came in (we were a party four) and they sat them. Not a big deal maybe they just had a table for two open. A few minutes later, a party of six came in and they sat them. At that point, we got up and left. read more
