Not much has changed at the Cozy Inn since I visited two years ago. The inside still clean and in good repair. I love how the floors are made of hard word from a bowling alley. The waitress was very friendly and hustled - despite the fact we were not regulars. The food came out on pace for a busy afternoon. The menu is still the same. Broad enough for everyone to find something to eat. Prices are reasonable with moderately large portion sizes. The fish is still very good. The onion rings are a bit crunchy and oily. The Cole slaw is tasty and mayo based. I thought the chicken tenders were a bit tough though cooked thoroughly. Cozy doesn't take credit cards still and serves bottled iced tea - in case you wanted to know. Overall...a good place in Brimley to dine in. Wife and I ordered two whitefish dinners. The whitefish didn't taste fresh and the proportion size a disappointment especially for $20.00. Both ordered bake potatoes and both baked potatoes were cold. The dinner didn't come with a bun or salad just a small portion of coleslaw. Service was great but slow as one waitress was tasked to run all tables so it seemed. The establishment is clean, plenty of seating and parking and even had a little bar to belly up to. First time here, out of towner. A family friend recommended this place. Upon entering and siting, basically was ignored for a good solid 15 min at least. I think it was more like 20 min. Then after placing our order, waited quite a bit of time. Upon placing our order the waitress was definitely not in a friendly mood. The restroom also didn't have paper towels and a way to dry your hands. I've heard great things about this place, but all agreed that were in my party that it was definitely not a good day for them. As far as the food goes, the Whitefish was good, but had better up at Sault Sainte Marie, MI or Alpena, MI. If someone suggested that I eat here in the future, I'd will likely ask if there are alternatives before trying again. Always willing to give them a second chance, so maybe in the future. Avoid this place at all costs. My wife, myself, and our 2 kids went here and the service was terrible. We entered and nobody paid any attention. finally we asked a disinterested waitress if we should seat ourselves to which she replied, "yes". We sat there for 10 minutes without anyone paying any attention to us. I finally got up and asked a waitress (who was busy counting her money behind the bar) for menues. She ignored me so I asked again. She snapped back, "I'm in the middle of something!!!". Many of the locals kept suggesting that we get whitefish while in the UP so the Cozy it was. We arrived a little before 4, plenty of space and not crowded at all. By 430, there wasn't a place to stand. My husband ordered the 3 piece whitefish with the sweet potato fries. I ordered the broiled whitefish with cajun seasoning along with onion rings. Even though it isn't listed on their menu, they do offer the fish broiled with either lemon pepper or cajun seasoning. I just happened to ask since I'm not big on fried food. I will say that after trying my husband's, go fried for their fish. It had a light batter, not overly fried like one would expect. Their tartar sauce is the best that I have tasted, homemade and mixed with pickle relish. I also suggest the Texas Toothpicks as an appetizer, very delicious. One down side was that there are no free refills. Their drinks are served by the bottle/can (tea, soda) I do suggest that you arrive before 4 or after 7, otherwise you will be waiting quite a while for a table. We wanted chicken tenders and beer and we were in brimley so we ended up here. It is a total hole in the wall. The bathrooms are gross. I could tell it was an old building. But we came for the food and it rocked. That lady really knows how to throw down in the kitchen. Our waitress was very nice and fast as well. Went in about an hour before closing on a Tuesday with my parents, sister, and grandparents. Staff was busy as it looked like they were short staffed, this didn't contribute to my review as it might have just been the time, this is just to paint a better picture. Staff was friendly and were working hard. Our waitress was friendly as well, good people. All food came out nice and hot, partly because as soon as a dish was made it was served since the place was busy and they were short-staffed They were out of perch and fried chicken, so I assume those are the populars. Mom ordered lemonade and we assumed it would be fresh or at least attempted through concentrate, but it came in a soda can with over 40 grams of sugar that you could not taste. I had water. Appetizers we ordered: Jalapeño Poppers - clearly pre-made from a supplier and cooked in the oven - jalapeño was not spicy at all, not even a hint of spice - the cream cheese inside does not mix well with the jalapeño, it tasted like ingredients and not a "dish" if that makes sense - would not recommend Onion Rings - same suspicion, tasted like it was pre-made from a supplier and just fried. Or it was made with bland batter. - it was good enough to satisfy an onion ring craving, but would not recommend if you are looking for something tasty Main Course: Whitefish Sandwich with fries - the sandwich consisted of lettuce, Mayo, and the fried whitefish sandwich - the fish inside was warm, a bit dry, but good fish - the bun was cold, straight from the fridge - overall the sandwich was forgettable, it needs something special to bring it all together. Perhaps a special sauce to go with the fish would make the sandwich great. Lettuce and Mayo itself does not cut it They only accepted cash or check after we had our meal, which was weird since it wasn't mentioned before. Might be because they closed down the system due to it now being outside their hours, but it should have been mentioned before. Order Recommendations: I would get the fish itself if I were to come back since that seems to be their favorite and the fish inside my sandwich was good. I would not get anything else. This was recommended from a shop owner at the Soo locks so we drove all the way over here to get fresh white fish off season...didn't know fish had a season, but apparently they do. Maybe it's the fisherman? Sadly once we arrived they only served frozen. I ordered it anyway and was sadly disappointed. I ordered a 3 piece meal and left what you see in the photo. Not tasty at all. The service was ho hum. Waitress seemed more interested in serving her bar customers and when she did finally come check on me, my drink (water) was empty and I had already had enough "frozen fish" and was ready to go. I have heard that if you're not from here (Michigan UP) then you don't belong here and I definitely felt that at the "not so cozy" inn. My wife and I come to Brimley for a week every October. It's become our fall getaway where we enjoy the solitude, the leaves, the lake, and several quiet and very local restaurants. Cozy Inn is one of the best and probably our favorite. The people are mainly locals this time of the year but that does not matter. Everybody is always incredibly friendly. We ate dinner at the cozy inn in brimley. What a friendly little bar and restaurant. We sat at the bar and met many local regulars. Everyone was friendly and had so much to say about fun things to do and share their stories of the past. Even the owner stopped and shared how the moose stopped by many years ago!! I had the whitefish dinner and it was fabulous. Lightly breaded with fresh homemade tarter sauce. Hubby had his go to burger that he had all he could do to finish. It was so big and juicy. I LIKE THIS PLACE. This is a good U.P. Bar and would normally warrant 4 stars but the two draw backs are 1.) No Credit Cards 2.) No soda fountain, so all the soft drinks are by the can, no free refills It is definitely dominated by locals and so sometimes it seems like you might be gumming up the works, but the waitresses are nice enough. Seems that they only serve it fried, which is OK I guess, but I'd like to try Whitefish another way (besides smoked...which I bought about 3lbs of which at various chintz-ass 'convenience stores' along the Yooper 'highways'). Yeah, so Whitefish reminded me of a cross between salmon and cod. Obviously it's white, but it had a salmon filet's fattiness which makes sense given that these are some COLD-water fish. You gotta get your line to 300-400 feet below the surface to catch a Whitefish because that's where they hide (because that's where it's like 45F). Cheap prices. Everything in there, all the sides, pretty much everything, is all garbage. But that freggin' Whitefish is the best you can get on the U.P. (as per the many locals we talked to there). If for some reason you end up in the tiny pin-prick on the map (I guess if you're going to Sault Ste-Marie (and I would COMPLETELY avoid the US side...across the border is an ACTUAL city/town with the same name) you might somehow end up at the Cozy, maybe on the way to the Indian Casino...the one that actually serves free drinks. If you do stop here, get a 3-piece and toss the sides in the trash. Then order some Lake Perch. I heard that rocks too. But those are easy enough to catch that I didn't wanna bother with paying for it... read more

They were slow to greet us, did not have any menu available, when I asked what they had available for beverages the waitress did not tell me about any drinks available and told me just to ask for something. Furthermore we were rushed to make our decision. It was not made clear to us that the order was cash only at any point during our visit and I was forced to pull money from an ATM inside the restaurant. Trust me when I tell you that the fried fish served here is worth going out of your way for. The light batter surrounding the fresh fillets make for the perfect combination. Drinks are strong so just go for one if you are driving. You can't get much better than this classic UP bar. read more
