Terrible experience. Typically, their food is subpar at best but it's one of the only options nearby so we've accepted that it is what it is. The inside of the restaurant is very old and features worn out cushions in the booths and isn't ideal for dine in, so take out is really the only option here. Today, we decided to treat ourselves and get lunch here and I ordered house special with chow mein noodles that was supposed to have noodles, veggies, pork, beef, chicken and shrimp. Instead, I received a box of 75% cabbage in a watery brown liquid with some real funky looking chicken and shrimp that was cold served with gummy, wet rice. I called the store to ask if they could make it right, and she told me absolutely not and it's my fault and nothing would be done to correct the issue. We decided to try it despite the fact it was terribly incorrect, and it was the nastiest food I've ever had from there. Completely devoid of any flavor, everything was cold and mushy or undercooked entirely, and was honestly really disgusting even when trying to have an open mind about it. This was a terrible way to treat regulars to a business and is absolutely the last time I give them any money or support. I'd recommend going to IndoChina or across the border if you want people that actually care about operating a business. read more

First time visit the Soo. Instead of running the mill fast food - burgers, pizzas, we opted for Chinese. To be fair didn't have any expectation, food turned out decent and priced affordably (no more than a combo meal at any fast food). We ordered 3 dishes for a family of four and it was plenty enough. Chicken curry has nice flavor and good kick (it's not mild), seasame chicken was fried well and stir fried flavorably, and the shrimp lo mein tasted good! Oh - except for the chicken the others were dinner specials so they also came with an egg roll. Fried rice is done well, not too dark or salty like other places with an overdose of dark soy. Good Chinese food prepared well, ready earlier than promised, and reasonably priced. I got takeout and though it looked like you could eat in, it doesn't look like they have a lot of folks taking that option. I tried sweet and sour pork and my wife had chicken fried rice. The sweet and sour pork comes with an egg roll and what I believe was pork fried rice. The food was good, hot and ready when I arrived 5 minutes early. Service was fast and friendly. It's not much to look at as a Restaurant, but oh my Word!! I ordered a large House Lo mein, it was so Delicious that I couldn't stop eating it. And it was opened on Sunday and it doesn't close until 9pm WOW !!!! Our food was prepared quickly, everything tasted good, and no one had any stomach issues afterwards which is really great. It's your average Chinese place since the food and experience wasn't exceptional but I would eat there again if invited. read more

Cute place. We decided to try it out thanks to Yelp and also because it was one of the only non-chain restaurants open after 9. We were a bit confused when we first walked in. To save you guys the hassle, no one seats you. Go up to the counter and order. If you are dining in, find your seat and they will bring it out to you. If you are getting take out, they will call out your order. At least, this is what it seemed like when we were observing things. Food came in a cute microwavable container, so if you don't finish your food, you can take it home without requesting a to go box. The cheese rangoons were awesome. I'm sorry but wtf is this? Because it is not chow mein. Chow Mein is: "Chinese-style dish of fried noodles with shredded meat or seafood and vegetables" NOODLES. These are not noodles. Yes very cheap food but don't order anything besides sesame chicken and fried rice. The won tons are good too. Don't order this because it won't even resemble meat. PROS: crab Rangoon are awesome Combo plates are decent proportions for a decent price CONS: customer service leaves a lot to be desired- they won't allow you to change egg rolls in combo (religious reasons- pork free diet) even if you offer to pay the difference; they won't allow you to pay extra on a combo plate for "white meat" sesame chicken. Instead of paying the $0.80 price difference between the two, as noted in their chefs section, they want you to pay almost $4 more than the combo plate if you want white meat. We weren't asking for anything for free, but $4 more?! Come on! And we paid full price for two extra shrimp egg rolls and discarded the pork. Also. Turn up the heat a bit. Your patrons shouldn't have to dine whilst wearing a coat, scarf and gloves. I understand it's cold outside but the temperature in your restaurant was as ridiculous as the customer service read more

Is it the best Chinese food I've ever had? Nope. Is it tasty and reasonably priced? Yep! And bonus: The staff is exceptionally nice, our order has NEVER been wrong, and dinner specials come in fantastic, reusable plastic containers. This is our place for take out, it takes a bit of trial and error to determine the best dishes but once you find what you like it is always spot on. I love love love their boneless spare ribs (get them while they last!). And their hunan chicken and bourbon chicken (just a tad too sweet, siracha takes care of that) are too die for. Contrary to some of what has been said, china cate is pretty good. The food is satisfactory with the exception some weak lo mein awhile ago. Prices are hella affordable and would be considered equivalent to what you receive. read more

I've been going here a while, Food is the the best chinese food in the soo, but not great compared to bigger cities. Today though, They said my order would be ready in 30 minutes(usually they say 10 so that was already strange). I run errands to spend that time then I come to pick it up after 30 minutes. There is only two people in the store, that already have there food, I proceed to wait 30 extra minutes in the store for my food after paying. So 1 hour total wait, no apologies and no free anything for my wait. I was mad. Most of the times I go here it is fine, I will say that though. But definitely not worth a one hour wait and staff tend to leave you alone. read more

It has bothered me since lunch today so I think it's important to post this. The food at lunch was average at best. The fried rice was more like instant rice and the shredded spicy chicken was anything but that. When I ordered off the lunch menu the woman taking my order quickly reminded me I was not ordering from the lunch special "surly you know that " was her reply. A family member had ordered me the "General Tso's Chicken" dinner with white rice and it comes with an egg roll. We drove around for about two hours to shop and upon getting home the meal was still really hot as if we just returned from picking it up. The menu declares it is suppose to be spicy, however, I eat spicy foods all the time so I was unable to feel it. The spicy factor isn't important for me with this dish. The rice rice wasn't over or under-cooked, really fluffy, chicken was really tender and the cause covering the chicken was really tasty. I warn, you don't drop a piece the great sauce is really sticky. I don't really like broccoli, the two pieces that I got with this dish were tasty. So the food is good and that's the only reason I am giving a 2. Otherwise, what a mess. The girl messed up my charge and charged me triple what I owed. Asked me to sign for it and she would refund. I refused to sign the one that was triple charged. Asked that she refund the entire amount and then recharge me for what I actually owed. She said no. That's how we do it. I said uhh no. That's now how you do it. She said either pay or no food. I'm like lady, you charged me 60 bucks for a 18 dollar food order. I did pay. They finally resolved it after 45 minutes. Without apology and acted as though I was the customer from hell because I refused to sign for the 60 that I didn't owe. Terrible customer service. Totally unprofessional. I have had bad service here every time but keep coming back for the good food. Unfortunately this one did me in and I won't be back. They should really invest in some training for the credit card machine and for customer service. If they made the mistake yelling at me and demanding I sign for a charge I didn't authorize is just ridiculous. read more

China Cate is the newest Chinese restaurant to open in the Soo. I have maybe eaten there 4 or 5 times and it has been decent. If I was rating the food itself, I might give it closer to three stars. If you've ever eaten Chinese food in a mall, you've eaten the caliber of food that's served at China Cate. It's not great, but it's good. Where it may lack in food quality, it makes up in price and variety. The menu is huge. Also, there are some really good deals. You can get a dinner special which ranges in price from 6.95 to 7.25 and includes an eggroll and chicken fried rice, which can be substituted with white rice. Lunch specials don't include the eggroll but do have the chicken fried rice and go for 4.95 to 5:25. The atmosphere inside is pretty plain and shabby. The person who takes your order is efficient. They call your number and you go get your food. So, there's no waitresses or anything. There are tables though, so you can sit and eat, although I always see quite a few people waiting for pick up. There was a strange incident when an employee was filling soy sauce containers, and he leaned over me to get our container, without saying anything, like he didn't think it would be better to wait until we had finished eating. Oh well, it was humorous at the time. Overall, good place to go for quick, reasonably priced Chinese. read more
