Tonight was supposed to be a special evening for my family. My husband, our kids, my mom, and I went out to celebrate our anniversary at Shogun Steak House and Sushi in Rosenberg. We let the staff know it was a special occasion, and we were genuinely looking forward to making it a memorable night for our family. Unfortunately, what we experienced was far from celebratory. The hibachi chef gave us a rushed 5-minute presentation no tricks, no interaction, and clumpy, undercooked rushed rice. I initially assumed he may have been new and decided not to let it ruin our night. But just a few minutes later, we watched that same chef serve a family nearby with a full, enthusiastic show he was flipping utensils, tossing food, laughter, interaction... the complete hibachi experience we've come to expect. Although I peeped the difference immediatly it wasn't until my 8-year-old turned to me and said, "Mommy, can I go sit with them?" that I knew I needed to speak up. I'm not someone who jumps to make things about race, but in this moment, it was hard not to. The only noticeable difference between our table and theirs... was the color of our skin. I spoke with the manager, who offered little more than a shrug and a half-hearted apology. We won't be back. And I'm sharing this because experiences like this where families like mine are made to feel less than should NEVER be normalized or dismissed. Do better, Shogun. DO BETTER. read more

We have ordered here through door dash multiple times and the food has always been great! As someone who is pregnant, this place hits the spot. The california roll is fresh, especially the avocados. The fried mushrooms and the sweet mayo dipping sauce it comes with, AMAZING. My husband loves the hibachi from here - he stays getting steak and shrimp!! Wouldn't be able to comment on service and ambiance but I do know this location is in Brazos Town center and there is plenty of parking at all times. read more

First time at Shogun. Wasnt crowded at all on a Monday night but I have seen this place get pretty crowded. They offer standard dining or habachi on the other side. I ordered the vegetable dinner in teriyaki saice which comes with onion soup, salad (not pictured), 2 shrimp and your choice of steamed or fried rice. The food was delicious especially the spicy garlic edamame. I couldnt eat all of the main course but the veggies and soup were good. I did not care for the salad and I think it was the dressing plus not a huge fan of iceberg lettuce. They have an extensive sushi menu to choose from. read more

Went today and got the dinner steak teppanyaki which came with steak, 2 pieces of shrimp, veggies and rice as well as soup and salad. The salad was delicious and the miso soup was good but a little watered down if that makes sense. My steak and veggies come out and it's covered in a super sweet sauce that fell flat. I asked my steak to br cooked medium rare. My veggies were cold and my steak was cold as well. I took a bite of the steak and it was so tough and very blue rare in the middle. Avoid this place! If I could I would give a zero. Food is ok. The noodles are a bit dried and burnt but over all the food is edibles. As I entered I was greeted with a warm hello and seated immediately. You can sit at the large bar or to the left are booths and tables or to the right at teppanyaki tables (solid griddle cook surface). I opted for the teppanyaki tables. Not long after I was seated my server arrived for drink orders. She was very friendly and checked on the table often throughout the meal. Shortly after the drinks arrived she took lunch orders. Lunch prices are very reasonable and nice size portions. I ordered the lunch size teppanyaki scallops ($12.95) served with salad or soup, fried rice and grilled veggies (zucchini, carrots, broccoli and onions). I also ordered a Shaggy Dog Roll to go for dinner later that evening. It was amazing with Shrimp Tempura and Crab topped with Shogun's special sauce. The Chef's presentation was fun and entertaining. The Chef was very personable and interacted with the table. I always enjoy seeing first timers and children react to the knive skills, the egg roll, shrimp tails in the pocket and the always impressive onion volcano fire show. Our Chef was extremely talented and kept the table involved. My entire meal was wonderful, scallops cooked perfectly and way more food than I could finish. We were traveling through, on our way to Louisiana, making a pit stop for the night in Rosenberg. We called ahead, and made reservations for dinner at the hibachi grill. We were welcomed immediately as we walked in, and seated right away as well. It had been yearssssss since I had been to a Shogun, so I was extremely excited that we chose this for our dinner spot! Our waitress appeared seconds after, to take our drink and soup or salad order, as we were sitting with others, so the table was now full. The chef was hilarious! He was so personable, fun and interacted with everyone at the table. Maybe they don't toss shrimp into your mouth anymore? Maybe it was due to the pandemic? Oh well.. no biggie. I really wanted to like this place but these are the two experiences I've had with them: 1. I called back in April asking if they did curbside because of the pandemic and they said "no you can just come in, everything is over now." 2. I ordered to-go sushi and they accidentally gave my order to someone else, no big deal but while I was there the ladies who accidentally took my order came to return it and instead of making me a new order they transferred my sushi into a new box, WITH THEIR BARE HANDS, and asked what sauce I would like on top. One, not like that is gross & two not like we're especially in a pandemic right now. Dining on the regular side of the restaurant today, the food was pretty sub-par and the service was even worse. You would have thought they were absolutely slammed, spoiler... they weren't. 4 tables with patrons on the restaurant side and we had to flag down our server for several things (refills, silverware, e.t.c) as she never checked on us, just rushed past or quickly dropped off food. My first time picking up to go from shogun was a good experience. The sushi was great and I love how close it is to my house. Let me just say... never again! The service was incredible, top-tier! The waiter was great, The food on the other hand...DISGUSTING, the plate was swimming in sauce! I'm giving 2 stars because the waitresses are awful. The food is amazing. The hibachi cooks are amazing but the ladies seating us and taking orders are pushy, rude and inconsiderate. They don't give you a chance to even think before they're pushing you to order. If you have questions they act like you're wasting their time. Rude rude rude. It was clean, the lighting was perfect, the service was on point, and the food was good. We went to the hibachi grill area and the chef did all the cool stuff they are supposed to do. We were pleasantly surprised after not having high expectations. People working in these establishments are not known for having decent people skills, but these people were awesome. They catered well to my infant as well. I read back through the reviews and there were a lot of people who had several good experiences who then went and wrote a review after ONE bad experience. The filet mignon was so tender and savory -spend the extra $4 to upgrade to it. Portion sizes make up for the higher price tag on dinner. The service was prompt and our server very friendly. Came here with my daughter and grandchildren one evening. My girl was dying for sushi. The experience was mediocre especially for the cost if the food. There were very few tables occupied. We were in for an early dinner so I didn't think much of it. For as few tables as there were the service was terrible and the waiter was slightly on the rude side. I felt we were more of an annoyance then customers. The price for the children's menu is ridiculous. This is not a kid friendly environment. We ordered a few sushi rolls from their specials. Upon arrival, half of the restaurant was empty. We waited about 10 minutes at the host stand before even being greeted, let alone sat. Now I dine frequently and was still understanding that they may be short staffed or whatever it may be. A party after us immediately got their drink orders and even their soups and salads before our server came to our table. Once she came to the table, I asked for waters and she walked away before the other three guests could put in their drinks. Fast forward. No utensils, no plates given. Water tasted bad. Veggies bitter. My son's fries came out the last five minutes of the meal. No communication. No friendliness. The worst part? She added an 18% gratuity on our table of less than five people. One of them including a THREE year old who only had the LATE fries. I come from service industry myself and I am more than understanding. But on a $200+ bill, I felt there was barely any service given and felt like a slap in the face after dealing with a stressful dinner. We even went the extra mile to help stack our plates and be as low maintenance as possible. All in all, I asked for the grat to be removed and that was done (with a fight and explanations). Went here with a friend who suggested it and I had never been so I said yes due to the fact that I love trying new places. I am huge on reviews from Yelp and should have looked this up before I came. Unfortunately nothing impressed me here. This is just another franchise type hibachi grill and the food was ok. Ordered a skinny pina colada because it sounded good, and it was a mistake. Must be skinny because it was all ice. The chicken was very flavorful, but I feel that's not hard to do at a place like this. For the price of everything, I sure would have hoped for more.
