We showed up around 6:45 PM while the restaurant was packed with a kids' soccer team from out of town along with their family who had come for a tournament. The restaurant was clearly busy and the hibachi side was absolutely packed. We asked for a booth because we didn't want to sit on the hibachi side with 400 kids yelling and running around and the huge crowd that came with them. That's completely fine, we just wanted a booth away from that instead. We were told it would be a 15 to 20 minute wait, so we sat down. During that time, more people kept coming in and were being seated at what seemed like squeezed-in spots at the hibachi grills with all of these kids, but I specifically noticed that nobody was leaving the restaurant. Forty-two minutes later we were finally told our booth was ready. As we walked back, I immediately said to my friend, "Nobody has left, how would a booth magically become available after we've been waiting all this time?" Then we got to the booth section and every booth was empty except for one family in the back. So now I'm wondering why I just sat there for 40+ minutes. We sat down, ordered drinks, got them, and then were asked if we wanted appetizers. Once we started looking through them, she said, "Oh, by the way, if you want anything that has sushi, it's gonna be at least another 30 minutes because we don't have a sushi chef on staff right now." Sushi was the whole reason we went there. We looked at the menu and decided to leave. We put cash on the table for the drinks because she never came back. On the way out, we told the lady at the front we weren't going to wait another 30 to 45 minutes for simple sushi. Another customer waiting overheard us and asked what was going on. My friend told her they didn't have a sushi chef on staff and couldn't realistically provide 90% of the menu people were coming there for. Her response was simply, "Wow." I think the first thing customers walking in should hear is: "Hey, we currently don't have a sushi chef on staff, so unless you want to wait a really long time, we can't realistically provide sushi right now." We had already waited 42 minutes and then were being asked to wait another 30+ minutes minimum. Asking people to wait well over an hour for sushi is wild. This place truly is a hidden gem in Casper. In a town where most people grab sushi from the grocery store, the Shogun sushi bar goes above and beyond in both quality and value. Traditional sushi is a good start but if you give their specialty rolls a try prepare to be blown away by their size and presentation. The service was best we have had in Casper post COVID and the friendly staff left us looking forward to a return visit. Finally a word of advice, leave room for the deep fried cheesecake for dessert. They do not have a dessert menu but rest assured it is worth trying on your next visit! read more

Shogun, like most modern Teppanyaki grill establishments of the Rocky Mountains had its first year of hibachi excitement for the locals. If you seen it, you know it. Having food thrown at my open mouth and drinking crappy $3 cooking sake out of a food service bottle is something you do once, maybe twice if you have a sake bomb first. Only 1 to 2 tables are used at a time now with a decrease in the Wow factor. Hibachi aside, the sushi and full menu here is mostly good and some very reasonably priced. Lunch sushi deals are great. The 2 & 3 roll combo w/ miso are a great deal. The sushi & sashimi the same. Sashimi/Nigiri cuts are large and well done. What ever cleaning product they use on the floor is my biggest complaint. Not sure if it's the quaternary ammonia or something else, but it's strong in the booth area. An area I find very comfortable and inviting. Service is usually good. I've had 4 out of 20 orders with a mistake, but it's always fixed quickly and most of the time a language barrier issue. So glad they have what's called a scorpion on the drink menu. Also known as a volcano, a two person flaming volcano rum punch. Conveniently located next to the movie theatre, a great place for a meal before a flick. read more

This place has great potential, but just isn't getting it. First off, decor is abysmal. Shogun has been here for SEVEN YEARS, yet there is no decor to speak of. Yes the hibachi grills, but absolutely nothing on the walls. A couple flat screens. What? This place should LOOK like a Japanese restaurant, yet completely misses the mark. Secondly, the staff is green. Super green. Someone is not training them properly. Third, the hibachi chefs are not doing it correctly. I've been to Benihana enough times to know the drill. I'm watching the chefs here and just shaking my head. There's an order: rice, vegetables and THEN proteins. And the show aspect of the hibachi experience was sorely lacking. Big flames and a half-asses onion volcano may impress people here, but it missed the mark with me. That all, said the food was decent, if perhaps over-sauced. Good and kind wait staff. Clean restaurant. Don't know how the hibachi is but the sushi was terrible. $14-$16 dollars for each roll. The "rolls" were only five pieces. I have been to a lot of sushi places. I know that splitting three rolls between two people is a meal. We left hungry because the portions were so small. We went to Shogun on a Thursday evening. There was not much of a crowd, so we were able to sit immediately. I ordered a sushi roll and the steak and shrimp combo plate. My wife ordered the chicken plate. Everything was delicious. It was the first time I had ever had my steak pre-cut for me, which I liked but could imagine may turn some people off. The fried rice was surprisingly good, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the secret ingredient was butter. Portions were good as well; we had enough for lunch the next day. I also ordered a Long Island iced tea. At first, I thought there was perhaps too much coke based on the flavor. But I don't think that was true based on my reaction... The only real knock I would give it is that the staff seemed untrained in customer service for the amount of money we were spending. For example, our waitress was great, but she asked a bus boy to bring us our soup and salad. The young boy misheard her, and brought sauce to empty table. That's an easy mistake, but further training would have led the busboy to look at our table and ask himself if what he was doing made sense. It's something I would expect to happen at a place like Applebee's or Denny's, but not somewhere that costs $20 - $30 per plate. All in all, however, it was a good experience and we plan to go back. read more

The presentation was good but the rice tasted like it was day old and the rolls fell apart easily. I could go on and on about it but I won't. the service here is AWFUL. well, our waiter, Reba, for all of 5 minutes was actually very kind. the owner?-oriental woman though, not so much. she chose to lose business that had 3 $32 filet steaks at the hibachi grill. our family was sitting at the hibachi grill...you know the table that you get to choose how you want your food cooked in front of you! our family didn't want eggs in our fried rice, and we only wanted certain veggies with each plate. we have eaten hibachi way too many times in other states, and to be told we couldn't have our food cooked the way we wanted it, is ridiculous. This place is pretty good for sushi. We have been here three times now and the sushi is exceptional (in the context of the town) Service is good, very eager to please. On one visit, it was a little chilly but it was during one of Wyoming's unusual spring snow storms - probably a result of a "snow day" when the thermostat was on summer settings. Not unheard of in Casper, Wyoming. The sushi on offer here is bigger and feels fresher than some of the other places in the area, and the restaurant offers more options for vegetarian sushi fans (I had one with me and she was pleased at actually being able to eat something besides fries and a side salad like most places in town) I had a seafood noodle bowl and it had a good amount of well cooked - not under- or over- done) seafood in it and was nicely presented. The next visit, I had a chef's choice sashimi plate and it was good, too - fresh, generous cuts of sashimi. I tried saba nigiri - along with uni one of my "sushi restaurant test items" - and it was competently done. Looking forward to coming back and trying the hibachi. read more

My local dinner partners said this was not the normal situation, but the meal was just crazy salty. This was otherwise a normal, if a bit expensive, hibachi joint. No doubt you eat like a king when your at the hibachi, I'm always stuffed and the food is incredible, sushi is to die for.

This place is so inconsistent. Sometimes it is fun and the food is great. Other times the cooks barely interact or cooked food comes to booths cold. Sushi is usually decent. What has been consistent in the last 6 months is the STICKY floors, soy sauce, salt and pepper shakers, chairs and tables. You can HEAR yourself walk as your shoes stick to the floor. Especially in the bathroom. I can't hardly stand it. Everyone always wants to go there when they visit from out of town but I'm getting to where I hate bringing my kids because I don't want to walk around that floor with little ones. I came into town just for a couple days.. Granted, Casper is a small town, so I didn't expect there to be too many delivery options... As I was searching online, Shoguns website and Yelp said they offer delivery. Also, the hours that they are open are listed on the website and on Yelp. Basically I have been calling for the last 30-45 min hoping to get a hold of someone just to check and see if they in fact have delivery, but I can't even get a hold of ANYONE! That to me is horrible customer service, especially if your website lists your hours of operation.. I had to settle for pizza instead. Please update your website and Yelp if your establishment is in fact closed or is not open the hours you have listed! I also left a voicemail on the answering machine! read more

We took our son here for his birthday we had a party of 6 the cook was great this place is a little $$ to have the salt and peeper and soy sauce to be sticky and dirty it literally stick to the table . We were in at Lunch the only table there and sat for 15 minutes before anyone came to the Hibachi table to take our drink order . This was a very bad experience. My son and I stopped in for lunch. We were shown to a booth and the air around us smelled of cigarette smoke. I could not tell if it was the woman who seated us or the air in general which smelled. After a few moments we were greeted and given drinks. I ordered hot tea which tasted terrible. My son tried to order chicken Katsu but was told they no longer have it. We were brought two soups that were different from one another with no explanation as to why my son received one and I received a different one. The soup was OK. I ordered three rolls so that my son could taste a little of each one and possibly order additional food. We waited over 30 minutes and during that time all other customers left. During that time I asked for a received water. After 30 minutes I began trying to attract the attention of either our waitress or the hostess. Both ignored me. I tried several times--growing louder each time, but they were busy talking with one another. Finally, we got up and approached the hostess stand--we were prepared to leave. I asked if something was wrong because we had waited quite some time and not received any food. The two made an exchange in a foreign language and then looked up something on the computer. The hostess turned to me and explained that two of the rolls had been made but a third was not yet started. I'm pretty familiar with how long it takes to make a sushi roll, and we were the only customers in the entire restaurant. There were several other employees doing nothing including kitchen staff. Not sure what happened today, but we will not return. We left without eating, and the hostess nor the server said anything to us. read more

I'd have to say this was the best sushi/ sashimi that j have had in quite some time, the atmosphere is great, I like that they also do the Japanese Hibachi style entertaining cooking. The sushi bar was great and the fish was very fresh. This was our first time here, and were pleasantly surprised. The waitresses and the sushi chef were beyond helpful on a busy weekday night, what looked like 2-3of them combining together to help in sections to keep the place nice and smoothly running. Sho-Gun: after reading so much about lousy service but great food my daughter and I decided to give it a try and went in for lunch with low expectations. They have been open about a month by this time. We were greeted by a happy smiling young man who ushered us to a table as soon as he was free from taking a to-go order. The wait staff was also very friendly. There was only one single chef working at one of the many grilling stations and all of the seats were full, so we chose a booth behind the Sushi bar. The food however was another matter. Both of us ordered a combo lunch special (scallops and shrimp) and an appetizer of calamari to split. First up was a "salad" and a bowl of "onion soup" Salad was chunks of iceberg lettuce and one grape tomato with thousand Island dressing, nothing else in it. My, how oriental...not. The soup tasted like watered down chicken stock and had three bits (yes I counted) of green onion floating in it. My bad, I was expecting Miso? Then came our entrees and the appetizer at the same time. The calamari was very tough and rubbery, we did not eat it all. The entree had two scallops and three shrimp, about a cup and a half to two cups of rice and some grilled vegetables. ($12.95 ea for this) The seafood was just not cooked properly. It was cooked all the way through, but not properly seared so it was like... well... it tasted like it was poached. Very odd texture. The decor is really lacking.. bare walls painted an odd cold blue color and believe it or not we listened to head-banging music. I am not foreign to Japanese food and I found this to be very "Americanized". The rice was more like Chinese fried style than authentic Japanese. Service seems to have been improved upon but I would not go back. read more

Finally, a great restaurant with delicious food! I would recommend that they need to seat people as they arrive and NOT wait until they have enough people for a whole table. Their waiting room just isn't large enough. I also think they need to invest in satellite radio. We have eaten there three times in the last two weeks, and have been tortured by Celine Dion each time, the whole time. Don't think I can hear that cd one more time. We had a fun time at Shogun, but they still need a little work to be above average. I understand they haven't been open very long so they are still working out the links. First, the food was really good and the chef was funny. He got the people at the table involved especially the kids. The downsides were that it was brutally cold in there. Not just a little chilly, but straight up cold. People shouldn't have to wear a winter coat at the dinner table. The service was also really slow and in attentive but I think they will get better with time, they are still learning. Also from my wife, the ladies room has two toilets, no partition and one roll of tp that is not in the middle?? Kind of strange Like I said, the food was good and we will likely return read more

If you want to sit with a bunch of strangers and eat food full of fat and salt go to Shogun. They overcook everything so that fish and shrimp are basically jerky. Being that this visit was my third time here I figured why not write a review. I had the privilege of indulging in a simple chicken fried rice dish that will probably keep me full until tomorrow afternoon. So much food, but so good! My fiancé went a bit out of his comfort zone and went for the Nabeyaki Udon dish which was a large soup filled with noodles, veggies, chicken, seafood, and a poached egg. He rates it a 7/10 and wished there was more crab and thinner noodles. Overall a good experience and I'll definitely be back to try out more food! The only reason I rate it a 4/5 is because the first visit we had we waited a very long time for our food, and the place wasn't even packed. That wasn't the case this time around. Thanks Shogun!
