Nice ramen place in a town, we went here as suggested by the tour guide while we were in the city. We had beef stew, noodles, and miso ramen. They were delicious, it sure was perfect for the rainy day. The service was top-notch. The ambiance, with some Japanese decorations and soft music playing in the background, was comforting overall. Tried this place out as it was close to where we were staying on our road trip. The ingredients they use are fresh, however, each dish we ordered missed the mark. Octopus salad-too salty. The sauce is so overwhelming. Tonkotsu ramen-noodles are still stuck together. The broth is also salty, but the meat is good. Rainbow roll-I really enjoyed the raw fish but the roll itself with the seaweed and rice had an unusual texture. The seaweed tasted a bit hard. To give this restaurant any less than 5 stars is a lie. This place seems like it would be more at home in the middle of Denver with $30 appetizers. Every single dish I tasted was better than fantastic. 9.5 hours away from home and this is easily the best food I've had. The crab Rangoon just ruined crab Rangoon from any other restaurant. The flavor was new and delicious. The texture was extremely pleasant. Fried to perfection with the cleanest taste I have experienced! The spicy beef ramen was a similar experience clean flavors that don't leave a film in your mouth with a mild spice that lets gives you some heat but doesn't ruin your meal. The California roll was immaculate. I've had so many different sushi dishes none come even close to this restaurant. Not to mention the service is top of the line. I've never eaten somewhere the waiter or waitress waited for me not to be chewing food to come and check on us. This place is really a diamond in the rough. Haven't been here for a few weeks and we were pleasantly surprised by their new lunch specials: Combo A = 2 traditional rolls $8.95 Combo B = 1 traditional roll 1 special roll $14.95 Combo C = 1 Ramen entree 1 drink $15.95 We each got combo B as well as the sashimi deluxe. Our sashimi was phenomenal, melt in your mouth and huge portions. The sushi was also delicious and we ended up taking some home as it was so much food for 2 of us. I went in to make an order for my family. My son loves ramen soup. I went to place my order and wanted to confirm the dish he wanted had no dairy in it due to an allergy. They confirmed it did, but could change the soup base so that it didn't have any dairy. That was really helpful. The food was great! My son loved the soup. We also had the gyoza and spring rolls. We ordered 2 appies to share ... chicken gyoza and Spring Veggie Rolls. Both YUM with great dipping sauces. Tonkotsu Ramen (2 orders) was a winner. Chicken Yaki Udon (stir-fry) was a thumbs-up, as was Chicken Kastu. A chicken fried rice to share was voted best we'd ever eaten. Huge portions, leftovers taken home! But after any nitpicking, the food at Hokkaido was still 5-star. The kids and adults all loved their dishes. Our first bites were a shock - how can it possibly be so delicious?! I had the (pork) tantanman, medium spice. It was well balanced, savory and not too spicy although I really felt the cumulative heat by the time I finished the generous portion. I often don't pay much attention to the service as long as it's competent and "out of the way". The friendly service here was clearly concerned with everything being perfect for our party of 6. As a native Japanese I try not to be too critical but here are my thoughts. I ordered creamy vegan ramen and it came with soft boiled seasoned eggs that were little too salty and questionable in yolk color. They probably should keep eggs out of a vegan ramen . Mung bean sprouts were raw they should be boiled unless you're making pho noodle. It had kakiage tempura that is strictly for udon/soba noodles not a part of ramen toppings. No green onions but it had cilantro which belongs to pho or some other asian noodles. Soup is the standard issued factory made concentrate that you find everywhere. Noodles are ligit but it was under cooked by normal standard. Why 3 stars and not 1 or 2 stars? It's in Casper Wyoming so I gave an extra star or two. read more
