So it all began with my heel coming off one of my favorite pair of shoes. I initially went to another shine place on the south side where I thought I was pleased with the service but over priced. Not even within a month the other heel comes apart and my fiance tells me to check this place out. I went there and not only was it 70% cheaper. But the heel looked as if it never had anything wrong with it. The service was so well I go every other week for a shine (I'm Dead Serious). Good convos and old fashion shit talking about politics, sports, etc is what you expect of you sit and wait. But who doesn't enjoy a good convo while you get your shoes renewed to their best state? This place wasn't all that convenient for me to get to, but I will gladly make the trek again given my experience. I called before heading over on a Sunday and the owner(?) told me to come in by 2:30pm. The place has an old-school barbershop type vibe. Lots of things everywhere. Lots of jovial older men shooting the shit, and a juke box. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by the owners son? Or maybe he was the manager, but the customer service was great. Despite being the only woman in there (and probably looking out if place), I felt welcome. The best part of a this was the price. When the guy told me how much it was, I couldn't believe it! I got 4 pairs of heels fixed for under $30. And the work was good quality and took less than 30mins. The next best part was probably that they had The MiseducAtion of Lauryn Hill playing when I walked in and then switched to James Brown, "Man's World." How appropriate. In March 2022, I heard about this shop from a previous customer and decided to get my boots repaired. My yellow work boots were to be dyed light blue but when I picked them up they were navy blue. I was disappointed as there was no changing from dark to lighter color. The work was excellent though. Perhaps the cobbler didn't think I wanted a lighter color on my boots and made a decision to go darker. However I would concur with the customer who told the me about shop. I work not too far from this place and I get my shoe shine every week before I get to the office. The service is as good as you'd expect from a West Side shoe place. Judging from the amount of abandoned shoes piled up all around the store, not every one that drops off, picks up. Like most people working for tips, the shiners themselves a tad overenthusiastic but they do a fine job. Not a lot of Black owned businesses have been around as long as Shoe Shine King, its a neighborhood landmark. Be encouraged to try them. read more

I've been coming to the shoeshine king sporadically for the last 30 years or so. I've never had a bad shoeshine. When they shine your shoes the shine seems to last for a long time and is easily touched up. I'm in the western suburbs now and it is a little bit of a hike to get there, but it is well worth it. The people are extremely friendly and polite. If you take a brand new pair shoes in, they will better when the shoe shine king is finished. I brought a friend in there with stable boots and he had those boots shined, now he wears those boots for going out.
