Since then, I have been back to Yorktown Shoe Repair twice - once for a further shoe-shining, and once to have one of my pairs of dress shoes repaired and to buy accessories for shoe care. And again, Jose did the necessary work in the agreed-upon time and at an eminently fair and affordable price - and he did a GREAT job, too. He also has a great selection of quality accessories for shoes, including shoe polish, shoe applicators, shoe brushes, shine cloths, anti-slide guards (for shoes with "slippery" soles), shoe horns, and, of course, shoe laces. He and his wife are both very personable and very professional. I do like Tony's Shoe Clinic in Oak Park and Lou's Shoe and Luggage Service in Park Ridge - but, given where I now live and where I now work and where I now go to church (every day of the week) I'm very happy to have this hidden gem of Yorktown Shopping Center right on the way to and fro. I have drove by Baron's before in the past few months but they were always closed. Today I called to inquire about if they took Apple Pay, they don't, and that was my clue that they were indeed open. I was 3 blocks away from them when I made the call so I drove up and parked. I waited for the young man inside to come and unlocked the door and I was hopeful that I would leave with a pair of shoes because I saw my desired style and color in their window. After looking around for 4-5 minutes the young man informed me that he was not allowed to sale shoes and that "she", I assume "she" is the owner, only comes in 3 days a week. Those days were not given to me. I lied and said I would return, I won't. I don't believe in giving my money to businesses who clearly don't want it. "Big mistake. Big. Huge. The customer service was horrible at first but then another sales associate helped us. I did find…read more2 pairs of shoes but after leaving the store I found that I was overcharged $30 for one pair. I called the store and the sales associate apologized and said she was crediting my card the original amount charged and then charged me for the correct amount. The charge for the correct amount appeared on my credit card but the refund never did. When I called about the refund the sales associate was rude and said it might take 30 days to show up on my credit card. The refund never showed up. When I called again the store sales associate said I could come to the store and view the refund receipt and basically hung up on me. The final result is that now I have been over charged twice. Be sure to check your receipt before you leave the store to make sure you were not over charged.

The husband also found a mock-suede pair of slip ons and our salesman waited on us both, answering all of my (many) questions without rushing us at all. I asked about the Sperrys and he told me to wait to spring for the next styles that seemed more my style based on what I said I was looking for. To me, that sold me on being a permanent customer because he was not just trying to move stock, but trying to make sure I was happy with my purchase. My ordered shoes were in after less than a week and I love them! I also love that parking is easy in this area - and the tapas restaurant we like is across the street - food and shopping? That's all me, all the time.
