For the longest time I was assuming that this Salvation Army thrift store no longer existed…read more Nevertheless, it wouldn't hurt to check it out and report to whoever is interested in traveling all the way to the southwest boarder of the city for thrift-shopping pleasure. This is a working thrift store indeed. It isn't a small one, but it's as large and spacious as the one at the Near West Side. From my experience on how the south-side SA family stores work, I remembered that they would run a half-off sale one (1) of the color-tags. I didn't see the signage for the promo that was currently running, if there was any. I didn't bother asking since I didn't spot anything I wanted to take home. It isn't very convenience to come over this direction frequently, but I won't mind stopping by when I'm the area. Parking is rather easy at the strip-mall lot. If you care about utilizing public transportation, use #63W (eastbound terminal station at the Midway Airport) and get off at the 63rd./Natchez stop.

I like to patronize local businesses. Esp, Salvation Army and Goodwill. The cashier who I can only identify as the only African American cashier on staff during my visit, no name tag visible. The rest were hispanic men and women. I was in line, the woman in front of me from what I gathered did not have enough money for her tab and it had to be cancelled by another associate. To which said associate had to make some ignorant comments about. So I made sure to step back cause she appeared to be in a huff about it. She and the other worker walked away after this, neither saying "we'll be back to cash you out", nothing. But that's fine, I can wait. So the cashier comes back and she's talking to another customer and is ready to take care of her. Which was nice but I am next in line. I was standing right there. My items on the counter. So I slide over directly in front of her and she says nothing to me, but makes sure to roll her eyes and suck her teeth at me. All the while, looking at the other customer, as though to suggest the audacity I have of cutting in front of her. So with that attitude not needed. I gave her back the items and said "you can take this back and you can keep your attitude. I did not come in here for this." Sadly, I let her get the best of me in that moment in front of my children. There are a lot of nice things in the store and priced reasonably. But I will not go back in there if I see her. The other workers there were really nice. It was my first time there but she ruined this experience. Maybe she should work in back where she doesn't have to interact with the customers with that attitude.

They do not have 1/2 off tags anymore which tells me this is not a new place so I was surprised there were no reviews. They do have changing rooms to try on clothes (see photo). They also have "mystery bags" with either clothes or DVDs (see photo). Not sure if that is worth the risk but interesting concept at Goodwill.
