I initially picked this store for a shoe repair because they are close to my office and had decent reviews. I keep coming back because they're just great at what they do. I've come to Imperial with different jobs for shoes and bags now; they've become my go-to. Zipper replacements, cleaning, heel replacement - every job has been great. You'd never be able to tell that any of the items have had a repair done at all. Their services are very well priced, too; I don't think I've ever spent more than $40 here. There was one job that took longer than initially quoted and they let me know promptly that it was due to them needing to order a part. I appreciated that they let me know what was going on and still got the repair done in great time. So I have a cute little backpack I got a few years back And the zipper hasn't been working for a year or so. I was looking for places to fix zippers and finally found this gem in the loop! I chatted with the owner and found out it's a family owned company and one of the family member Ricardo was very patient and nice in helping me figure out what was wrong with my bag zipper:)) Instead of charging me around 35-40 for replacing the entire zipper, he was very honest and told me that it's likely the slide is having issues . I called today and he said my bag is ready! So happy:) zipper works great and I only paid $20 for the slide replacement! ( looks exactly the same as the one I had before!) I will start off saying that they do excellent work and they use quality materials to repair your shoes. They are quick and get the job done. However, I am concerned that they will make up prices on the spot depending on who u are and will overcharge you. I have been getting my shoe's fixed forever and I have NEVER been charged so much money to put taps and grips on my shoes. They do not have a menu of their prices displayed, so they can literally make up prices on the spot. I took 4 pairs of shoes to get tap. 2 needed grips. He told me it would be $200. All 4 pairs of shoes did not even cost that much when I bought them. I then asked the guy how much do the taps cost? He told me $25 a pair. So that would mean if you were charging me $200 initially then, the grips would be $50 a pair? Thats insane. I told him to only put grips on one pair. He charged me $140. He charged me $25, for the taps and $40 for the grips totalling $65. I didn't feel like arguing, so I paid the man. To test my theory, when I picked up my shoes, I asked him how much grips were again, just to see if the price would change, and sure enough it did. He told me $45 a pair. Smh, it really sucks that they lack integrity because they do excellent work, however, I will not be returning until I see prices in writing. Do better. I called the shop in a pinch because I really need something. He was able to flawlessly re-glue in a couple of hours and he even cleaned them for me. I came in to get a leather strap shortened and the craftsmanship of the result was absolutely terrible. The leather was cut jagged, there was visible gray glue, the threads were frayed, and it looked so messy. The photos show the side they worked on compared to the side left untouched (it was brand new). On top of that, when I went to pick up the item on the day I was told it'd be ready, I was told they were "working on it" at that moment and that I could return the next day. When I returned the next day, I still had to wait 10 minutes because they were still "working on it." There was no apology either time. Had the quality of the work been good, I would not have minded the delay. If you care about your items at all, I would not recommend entrusting them to this place. read more

I purchased a pair of Chloe scalloped ballet flats in January and had only worn them a handful of times. Lo and behold, I was walking around my house a couple of weeks ago, getting ready to go out, when the half-moon portion of the heel--which had been glued on--fell off without any warning. Fortunately I could change into another pair of shoes and go on my merry way, but it was still a disruption in my day. Thinking I would go to the source, I decided to go to Bloomingdale's where I bought the shoes in the first place. The salesperson and manager explained that they could not take the shoes back, or do an exchange, given that they were damaged. I was taken aback, given the $$$ spent on these shoes. At one point I was told that the quality of Chloe shoes had declined, which made me feel a little better but still left me with a damaged pair of shoes on my hands (err...feet). After fruitlessly looking for a repair place now that the Pedway shoe drop location is closed, I wised up and consulted the Yelp app. I found the listing for Imperial Shoe Crafters, nearby and rocking several five-star reviews. I came in on a Friday and my shoes were ready in about a week. The formerly jerry-rigged soles were replaced with rubber ones, and sole guards were added. The service was professional all around and it was good to know that I am supporting a local businessperson. I will definitely be back for all my shoe and handbag repair needs. read more

Girl desperately wanted to find trendy skinny belts to zazz up several outfits. Girl finally found the perfect hot pink patent skinny belt and a yellow skinny belt. Only problem--they were three sizes too big!! After realizing that there was no MacGyver-esque way I could shorten them without ruining them, I remembered that shoe repair places usually do leather work and would be able to cut the belts. I researched online (on Yelp of course) and narrowed it down to a few places. Imperial Shoe Crafters actually had "belt shortening" listed as one of their services on their website. Score! If they listed it, they must be good at it. I took the belts in and the guy said he would shorten them both for $15. He showed me how he was going to fix it by unwrapping it at the buckle and cutting it at the buckle end, so then it would be folded and sewn to look just like new! No need to punch in holes. He even got the belts ready for me earlier than promised because I could only pick them up in the morning. Next day, the belts were ready and looked fabulous, he had found matching hot pink and yellow thread to sew them and had done such nice, clean work. If they did such a wonderful job on my belts, I knew I could trust them with my shoes. I took in a pair of beat-up, worn-out, light gray boots that had seen water damage and stained by the dye on my jeans and another pair that was scratched and scuffed on the toe. I wasn't expecting any miracles because I knew the stains were going to be tough to remove. To my surprise, the stained boots came back looking almost new and the other boots had been properly patched up. They exceeded my expectations. It was definitely worth the $6 for the scuffed boots, and $15 for the stained boots (note: payment is due at drop-off). Convenient location, they're open until 5 pm only. So I already wrote this review but for some reason it got removed. I took in a pair of suede wedges to get re-soled. It cost over $80 for one pair of shoes. I took two pairs of shoes to another shoe repair place also to get re-heeled AND re-soled. Both of those totaled $92 for two pairs of shoes. The other place also cleaned my burgundy kitten heels and my leather pumps for no extra charge. There are better places in the city to get your shoes repaired. Also places that are less shady. Please read the reviews here very carefully and look at the dates, most of the five star reviews were from 2011! read more

Moved to these folks my old go to place in south loop is too far...they are good to go and reasonable too! I know that folks sometimes complain that resoling a shoe is too expensive but it is definitely cheaper than a new pair of good shoes. I try not to spend $ on cheap shoes...heels maybe, but not soles on a $100 pair from DSW. I'm the type of gal who polishes her leather pumps and shoes. They mean a lot to me and I take good care of them. So finding a good shoe repair place is important to me. When the soles of my Louboutin and Jimmy Choo pumps' were starting to wear off, I brought them to Imperial Shoe Crafters and they did a really good job. They've also repaired the heel of my Prada boots when the leather was scuffed, totally my fault from a night of drunken shenanigans ;) They did a good job with that as well. I attended a charity banquet at a nice hotel in downtown chicago and at the banquet the waiter spilled red wine all over my white Coach purse. The hotel offered to pay for my dry cleaning bill so I started looking around for a place that cleans purses. When it came down to my purse I went onto yelp to see if there were any good places any where in the loop that had good reviews on purse cleaning and to my surprise I couldnt find any. I noticed this place had good reviews and it was close to my work so I decided to stop in to see if they cleaned purses and just my luck they do. The young lady working the counter was so nice and very helpful, I told her what happen to my purse and that I had been looking all over for a place that cleaned purses. Since the hotel was paying for it, I didnt care what it cost but to my surprise it was a very reasonable price. My purse is a white leather medium size over the shoulder bag, I honestly thought it was going to be more. I picked up my purse a week later and they did an excellent job on it. I will definitely be bringing more purses to them in the future. So ladies if you work in downtown and want a good place that cleans leather purses at a reasonable rates this is the place for you. read more

If your shoes are cheap, it's not worth it, if you have nice boots, as my husband and I do, they do a fabulous job. They rebuilt his vintage lizard cowboy boots, and both pairs of his motorcycle boots and they look amazing. I thought the cowboy boots were history. This is by far the best shoe repair/shoe shine store in the loop. I have been coming to Imperial for almost 5 years, and they have taken care of all my shoes! I have had just about everything done to my shoes and I only take them to Imperial Shoe Crafters. The staff is very friendly and they remember who you are. They are constantly give great tips on shoe care and maintenance. I wear dress shoes almost every day, and keeping them shined is a must. Cesar is the man! Imperial Shoe Crafters has probably fixed about 25 pairs of my boots/shoes at this point. The heals on my shoes wear down relatively fast, especially in winter so they need replacing every now and again, so the actual shoe doesn't become damaged. For the last 3 years and they have done an absolutely wonderful job every time! My boots always come back looking brand new, freshly polished and painted. They have an impeccable eye for the details, and fix things that you didn't even know were broken... essential preventative measure. One pair of boots that i brought in to have the sole fixed ended up separating from the shoe base again, so i brought them back and they fixed them again for good and free of charge. I broke the tip of a heel off of a sandal that I really wanted to wear to an event this weekend. I looked on Yelp and saw that Imperial Shoe Crafters was near mr office. Mid day I ran over hoping for help (neglecting to bring the shoe's mate). The associate at the store suggested I repair both and the reason why. So off I went to fetch its mate. She said she would be able to help. Around 4 I tried calling but no answer. I figured I would walk over on the way to the train but was pleasantly surprised when she called and even offered to wait a few minutes past 5:00. (Apparently their phone lines are having issues). Ok.... they really know what they're doing. A while back I had the unfortunate incident of my sister's dog chewing the heck out of one of my beloved (and expensive) aged leather booties. the heel was unrecognizable and the leather was wrinkled and discolored. I was worried because the heel was unique - had these grooves and contours that i thought wouldnt be replicated by a replacement heel. I found imperial on yelp and thought - well, i have nothing to lose. When I picked those boots up, I was shocked. It looked so good, it would be impossible for anyone who didn't know which shoe was tore up previously. I just about cried. I recently went back for another pair of booties that I wore to death, zippers broken, heels, wore down, etc. They told me that they'll see what they can do with the zipper - if I wanted to replace the entire thing, then it would be super $$$ and I thought I'd just buy a new pair instead. So they said they'd try to fix what they can, including heels for $49. Still steep but better than paying the money I paid for these shoes to begin with (prob twice that amount). And I love these shoes. Once again, Imperial came to the rescue - the heels look great and they did some kind of magic with the zippers that should keep them good for a while longer. Took a purse to be repaired the strap was coming apart. They advised me of what would be done to repair it and how long it would take. They were reasonable in pricing as well.
