This is the most outrageous situation I've ever had. Of course I call Oscar. No answer. Text him profusely telling him his son is off the walls. No answer. While I stood in front of the closed store, I called the posted number and got hold of someone incredibly rude who said he was Oscar. I have had the pleasure of working with Oscar twice now on projects that mattered to me a lot. First was a minor job, fixing a pair of high value Prada boots with a serious sole issue. He fixed it without a trace of them ever having a problem and is extremely knowledgeable about the construction of virtually any high end luxury good. You can trust him with your prized items in your closet. The second job was a much bigger undertaking. I am getting married, and I had a crazy idea for a groom gift that I needed help to bring to life. I asked Oscar to help me make a custom camera strap from vintage Louis Vuitton materials and high end leather. I came to him with an idea and spent 2-3 hours drawing out exactly what I wanted and working out the details. In a matter of maybe 2 weeks we went from planning it to it being completely done. The finished product is gorgeous and it is truly one of a kind. It is exactly what I asked for. After a decade of experience in horses, I know leather, and the craftsmanship was amazing on this piece. Oscar takes pride in his work and clearly put days of his time into this piece. I have taken my suede Aquazzura flats and my Ferragamo loafers here when I had worn away the heel on both. He did an amazing job cleaning the suede without losing he color and fixing the sole when I was worried I might have to throw them away. I don't even know where to star! Oscar is extremely professional and nice! I dropped off my dirty jimmy choos (once mint green...but I stepped into mud in them and I've tried everything to get them clean) and he got them looking almost new! I also brought in my Louboutin's on which I wore down the heel tip and the front portion pretty badly. He has some really antique machines in his workshop and was kind enough to show me how does his work! I trusted him enough to being him my absolute favorite ten year old boots with totally destroyed heels. He showed me how he is going to fix them by reconstructing the soles entirely. I brought in 3 pairs of leather boots: two riding boots and one over the knee boot. 2 out of the 3 needed cleaning and stretching, the 3rd needed extensive work and he was very honest to tell me the cost of the work would cost more than the value of the boot. I appreciated the candor. Upon pickup of the 2 pairs of boots, I couldn't believe how new they looked and well stretched they were. His hours for the most part are 9a-5p, but you will want to call in advance just to confirm as some days they vary. Oscar did good leather work for me but I jumped ship when I found someone better -charging a third the price for everything serviced and sold - at Gus's Shoe Repair. Oscar's often in a good mood and amicable, but can also sometimes be curt. He doesn't seem to have the any respect for his customer's time. Once he promised to have repairs done on an item on a Tuesday, and when I went all the way down there he told me that he had said Friday, when I know for a fact it he said Tuesday (because he said to pick up the day after NATO finished which was a Monday). The ticket wasn't marked but he treated me like a liar. The last thing Oscar does is apologize. You can't count on his hours either. He says he opens at 8, but there is often a sign on the door saying "had to step out, be back at 8:30." This happened two days in a row but the problem is that you see it at 9:30am on your way to work- an hour after he says he will be back. So like my small fiancé, have fun carrying that bag of shoes and boots that you planned on dropping off all day with you to work. And if you needed them back urgently from a Monday drop off, now you're dropping them off on Tuesday or Wednesday and he'll to be curt with you about not having time to get to them for a few days. We've moved onto someone more reliable in Gus's who will do things while you wait if you call ahead and ask politely, even stay open late if you need it done and come from far away. If you want to waste your time finding Oscar open and finding your items ready when he says, then enjoy Oscar. read more

Enter the lobby and you'll see the front desk and the stairs just to the north; make a left at the bottom of the stairs. I mention this because on Google someone left a bad review stating that it was hard to find. Now it'll be easy. As far as shoe restoration goes, Oscar is as good as it gets. Meticulous workmanship, great advice about choices, and gets the work done when he says he will. Plus he's a really nice guy, very interesting, and has a terrific world view.
