My daughter and I went to the Show Mill in the Clackamas Promenade to get work shoes for her. We ended up learning so much about our feet and sizing and what to look for in a good fitting shoe. It was so delightful we ended up buying work shoes, and play shoes and I even found a great supportive tennis shoe. Erik Aalvik was our salesperson and he knows shoes and feet!! My daughter has plantar fasciitis and he offered exercises and a plan to get her foot to heal and feel better. It was the greatest shoe buying experience we have ever had. Because I did not wear them right away, the store's exchange/refund policy had expired before I realized there was a problem. Asked store to contact manufacturer for possible solution (defective shoe?). Store managers said they would contact the manufacturer, but they did not. Store manager was condescending and dismissive. I then contacted the manufacturer, and they replaced the shoes (w/ my choice of ANY of their shoes) within 3 days. I thought Shoe Mill was great until I have a problem. A chef with painful feet. I've tried a number of shoe outlets in Portland. Nothing was working. I've bought SAS shoes in the past and saw this was a carrier of those shoes. We were greeted by Josh who quickly helped us get started on getting settled. He was very helpful in explaining my plantar fasciitis problems. He then handed me over the Greg who was excellent in helping guide us through various shoes and inserts. We went with a non-stick SAS and my feet are much happier today. His knowledge and patience really paid off and the other staff were also very helpful. I visited The Shoe Mill in search of a good pair of walking shoes. The selection was broad and encouraging. Customer service was good: not pushy and not impatient with me, though there were a lot of customers. So, why the 2 stars? The man who took my money (actually my credit card) was very, very clear with me: If I was not happy with the shoes, for any reason, I could bring them back for a refund. I wore the shoes a couple times and noticed they hurt my feet. I went back to the store and a refund was refused. Since there was nothing wrong with the shoes (i.e. poor workmanship, rips, etc.) I was not eligible for a refund. So, I'm stuck with the most expensive pair of shoes I have ever bought Be very careful and understand how and why you can return any shoes you might buy there. read more

I went in to the Shoe Mill a few months back with debilitating plantar fasciitis. I could barely walk even with the cortisone shots and taping my doctor recommended. The manager Erik told me he could fix it and make it go away if I did exactly like he instructed with a pair of running shoes, flip flops to use whenever I wasn't wearing the running shoes, some inserts and a massage ball. I was skeptical but took the whole purchase home and in about a month I was almost completely pain free and cured! I have since returned after a few months as he instructed, to expand my shoe collection with a pair of booties and some dressier shoes for work. These are feeling great also. Erik is my hero, he really knows his stuff, and I will be putting my feet in his hands in the future! read more

Horrendous customer service. Do not get service from Assistant Manager Erik unless you want to be talked down to. We came into the store to pick up shoes that were supposed to be delivered from another location. First of all we never got a confirmation call that the shoes had arrived. Secondly they couldn't even figure out where to find the shoes, it was buried inside of a pile of boxes. Then we asked if we could exchange them for a water resistant pair and Erik quickly said of course as long as we have them in stock. We asked him to check and upon finding them, he thrusted them in our hands and walked away to help other customers without telling us next steps. Original value of our purchase was 199, the pair we wanted to exchange for was 184. Therefore we expected a 15$ refund and Erik insisted we would only get 11$ as our original purchase was made with a coupon. He insisted we were not calculating it properly and that we were lucky he's even considering giving us the coupon to begin with. Not only that but he kept talking over us saying we don't get it. When I finally got a word in to explain that our original coupon was a dollar off coupon, not a percentage off and therefore we should still get the same dollar off value or he could revalue the discount on each shoe to proportionally reallocate the discount, his response was "honey, you're lucky we're even going to all this trouble. I don't even have to give it to you." The customer service was a HORRENDOUS experience. Never again will we be shopping here. I hope Shoe Mill corporate will address his behavior immediately. read more

I had some Keen shoes to return that my husband bought for me for Christmas. They had too much ankle support. When I walked into the store I was greeted by Trevor Dowd. He was ready and willing to help me. He was very polite and educated on shoes! I was there almost an hour and I believe it was after closing time before I left. He didn't try to rush me - he just wanted to help me. I ended up buying some really cool socks, he was able to find another Keen shoe to replace the Keen's that I wanted to exchange, and I also bought some HOKA shoes for walking. The first time I came here, I did not buy the shoes I tried because the gentleman helping was rude and pushy and refused to let me try on anything other than the $200 pair that I tried and loved. I wanted options and he didn't give them to me. He was arrogant and went on and on about how he has done this for years and was the best salesman in the company. I beg to differ. TREVER DOWD IS THE BEST SALESMAN IN THE COMPANY. Trevor was kind and incredibly knowledgeable for only have been doing this for less than a year. He was patient and stayed engaged. We laughed and bonded and I will never buy shoes from anyone else. The gentleman I had worked with prior was there, too. In fact, he must have remembered that I did not purchase the shoes from him a few months prior because I OVERHEARD HIM TELLING ANOTHER ASSOCIATE THAT I WAS WASTING TYLER's TIME BECAUSE I WAS NOT GOING TO BUT ANYTHING. I guess the joke was on him because I left with 2 new pairs of shoes and a pair of in soles and will be back for several more pairs. Only, I will be calling ahead to make sure Trevor is working. I came to the store to buy a Specific pair of boots. When I asked for the boots by name and try them on in my size, the saleswoman said "my manager will be upset if you try them on and then buy them online so I hope that's not your intention". I was stunned. A - this was not my intention and I felt accused. B- it's a customers prerogative to try a pair of shoes and decide not to buy them. I have no idea what she thought she was policing but clearly the company needs to work out their growing pains in relationship to online shopping instead of taking them out on their customers. I left the store in the middle of trying the shoes on because I realized I felt uncomfortable. I also called the manager Eric. Eric explained to me that that employee had every reason to say what she did because people will come in and take up their valuable time trying on shoes and then go buy them online. I let him know this is besides the point and he agreed but continue to justify his employee. I wouldn't feel comfortable returning to the store. read more

Just wanted everyone to know what an exceptional experience my husband and I had at the Clackamas Shoe Mill. I was raised in a "shoe store business" which my family started in the 1920's and is still in business in California. We fit "hard to fit" feet with orthopedic needs. So when Greg Aalvik greeted us and spent a great amount of time addressing our needs and he fit our shoes with great care and knowledge of what would be the best fit for both my husband and myself...I couldn't believe how wonderful it was to feel such trust and integrity in his service. I came into the shoe Mill location in Clackamas Oregon to exchange a pair of Ecco boots that were faulty and purchased from another location I ran into Erick one of the managers at the store, he was fantastic , he not only exchange the boots but also suggested the proper arches. everything about what he did was completely professional and refreshing great job Erik! Came in for a pair of uggs I'd been wanting for a very long time. I mentioned that I suspected that i have planter fasciitis and would probably need insoles too. Well, after the salesman took all the time in the world with me explaining my condition and solutions, I sadly put back the uggs. I chose good new balance shoes and inserts as well as flip flops to wear around the house to help my foot pain. All recommended by the salesman. I wanted those uggs so badly, yet I'm so thankful for that employee. 1year later, I know how to find a shoe with the correct support (he taught me that too) and following his advice, I've has no foot pain in over 6 months. I had driven past Shoe Mill many, many times to go to a wide shoe specialty store close by. A friend kept recommending I stop by, but I just felt my feet were too wide & "weird" to be able to shop at any other shoe store. Until I went in to Shoe Mill SAS. The service was unbelievable. They were very busy, but one representative spent two hours, yes, two hours working with me, trying different shoes, different liners, heel shims, you name it, until I happily walked out of the store with three pairs of the best shoes I've ever owned! He even walked me to the car because I mentioned I was moving slowly because I had just had surgery a week ago. Really folks, it doesn't get any better than that. I don't normally write reviews but felt the Shoe Mill deserved my time. Having narrow feet and problems because of injuries I have a hard time finding shoes that fit and are comfortable at the same time. Katherine, who approached me as soon as I entered the store was fantastic. Showed me the wall with the narrow shoes, listened to the problems I have & what I needed in a shoe and spent time having me try on several styles till we found a style that was perfect. Wore them all day and no discomfort or blisters...it was like putting on a pair of slippers. This was my first time at Shoe Mill but certainly won't be the last.
