I had to try a mix of things in order to satisfy my sweet tooth yet fulfill my late breakfast hunger. Having tried the kolaches: ham+cheese, sausage+jalapeños+cheese, and sausage+cheese, I loved the ham+cheese. Keeping it simple, it reminded me of the typical ham and cheese sandwich. The sausage was more like a hot dog, and while it was good, I liked the texture of the ham more. But if spicy is your thing, I'd totally suggest getting the sausage jalapeño cheese because you will get a nice kick of heat. Donut wise, the strawberry filled, bavarian creme, and chocolate walnut were all superb. Disappointing experience to put it nicely. While on vacation I kept seeing this spot and had lines of cars on some days, so on my last day I stopped by and got a dozen. I went into the store instead of using the drive thru as I wanted to see all the donut options. I played it safe and got mostly glazed donuts, a few sugar donuts and 2 apple jelly donuts. When I got to the house we stayed at 5min down the road I was appalled! These glazed donuts were old, I don't mean a few hours hold, but a day old! They didn't have any glaze on them as it had melted and the donuts were wrinkly and wet from the melted sugar.. I really couldn't believe it. I took a bite of one and it tasted rancid. Interestingly enough the apple jelly donut and the sugar donuts were fresh but all 8 glazed donuts had to be thrown away. DO NOT waste your money, this place is horrible and the staff isn't friendly or welcoming. While I am an out of towner, I can assure you my family and friends in the area will not be back. I keep giving this location a chance because I grew up in Houston and we loved early morning Shipley. I come atleat once a week here but there's no customer service and its getting annoying. I accept that mistakes happen but the way to rectify them DOES really matter. This is about the 3rd time this happens. The Kolache is half raw. I get home, kids are excited, then I see this. Raw kolache that I have to take away from my son to drive back and fix. So I go inside to show them and the difference in one that was actually cooked and one with raw dough. She asked what I want and I hesitated because I kind of wanted $ back but then my son was waiting at home for kolaches. So I said I'll take another. I had a long shift working overnight and got off at 5:30. I thought I would pick up a couple kolaches to take home for an early breakfast. So I drove up and ordered two sausage, jalapeno, and cheese kolaches. I really like the ones with the jalapeno. It really adds a kick and more flavor to the kolache. I was very specific. Well, when I got home and began eating them, I see there are no jalapenos in it. It is just plain sausage and cheese. And it wasn't just the one missing them. The other had NO jalapenos in it either. This is not the first time it has happened here. Did they switch them up in the warming drawers, or did they run out and figure I wouldn't care by the time I got home? They are not consistent there. Some mornings they are perfect. Some times like today they don't give me the correct ones. I have received them with one single sliver of a jalapeno in it. Why advertise that you offer them if you really don't have them, or want to make them for customers. I think this will be the last time you trick me. I hate leaving bad reviews, but I just can't ignore this. I purchased donuts at the drive through at 9:25am today. Opened the box at home to find black spots all over them (AFTER I took bites of the donut). This location refused to acknowledge anything wrong with them, saying they were fresh donuts and the black spots are from the machine used to cook the donuts. I asked for a manger twice, they said there wasn't one. I wished I could give zero stars. This location has the rudest employees and apparently Shipleys Corp does not care because most of the reviews here are about rudest employees. It's a shame too. I guess they think they are Houston fav donut place so customer service isn't important. It was Sunday afternoon during TS Beta, around 3:30 PM. No one was at the store. It was raining really hard but we wanted donuts so we were going to drive thru. I was trying to see what they had through the window so I wouldn't have to bother the staff to go through the list at the window (besides I would have been soaked it was raining so hard). I pulled to the side door and realized I couldn't see the counter. So I was backing up to the front door since no cars were in sight. When I went to back up, someone was coming from the other end of the strip center so I paused. I was there less than 45 seconds when an older Hispanic lady comes to the door and rudely making hand and arm gestures telling me I could not park there. Uhhh I was not PARKED! She had the most horrible attitude and mean look on her face. So much so, my sister said I am not getting a donut here so we left and drove out of way to get something elsewhere. This location has the poorest of customer service. They were like the old shipleys I grew up on when they first opened. Now the customer service is the worst and they often give old donuts or miss giving you items you've paid for having to return to the location. We door dashed today and they failed to give us our kolaches. Phoned location only to receive a half-a## apology and told I could come pick them up but they weren't done when dasher came so they just gave him the items that were ready...some old donuts. Save your time, money and frustration. How much extra time does it take to count less than 10 items and make sure a customers order is correct? After moving to the area almost three years ago, I have to say I was shocked not to see a Shipley location nearby. There are a cluster of mom and pop locations, and a Dunkin Donuts across the street (I'll reserve my opinion about them for the review on that location but it ain't gonna be pretty). Anyhoo - my teenager nearly jumped out of her skin when they opened this location, she LOVES their donuts. Even though she's a teen, she actually will not eat everything in sight and is a bit picky, so her enthusiasm means they are doing something VERY right. This is our go to Saturday or Sunday breakfast spot when I'm not in the mood to break out the skillet and cook - she loves the chocolate iced, I'm a plain glazed girl for the most part unless I'm feeling particularly wicked and get a devil's food. And let me tell you - they are the devil! It's a chocolate donut filled with chocolate icing and you will love it! I went there twice. First time I ordered a coffe from drive thru and they gave me cream and sugar on the side and I had to go park and mix it all before I drove off to work. Second time I kindly asked the lady if she would put cream and sugar in the coffee and the lady was very rude and said no and she talked to her coworker in Spanish. I cancelled my coffee and just got donut holes. I'm not sure what's the point of going to drive through and getting a coffee when you're on the go then you have to stop and fix your coffee!! This is my kids' FAV date place. We usually go as early as we can in the morning, around 7-730AM (not bad for a 3 and 5 year old). The donuts are always warm and fresh in the morning, and always best to eat there. So we usually get a half-dozen to a dozen. My kids usually get the same thing - my daughter gets the donuts with pink icing and rainbow sprinkles, my son gets the red icing with rainbow sprinkles. I also like their donut with chocolate w/ nuts. However, our go-to is always the plain glazed. These are consistently airy, fluffy, and tasty. I would not get a kolache, I thought they were just average. They also have iced coffee, but if you like it black don't order those, their flavoring is too sweet. We also see tons of people getting the donut holes. Overall, it's always a treat to see my kids bite into a fluffy warm donut, fresh out of the oven! Having to use the drive through due to social distancing doesn't help as you cannot see what is available and the person helping you is not inclined to share this information. The donuts here seem to flufflier than other Shipley locations. They are also served warm, but only in the morning. If you come after 12:00 pm they do taste like donuts that have been sitting out. They are open until 8pm so if you have a late craving you can certainly stop by. This is also one of the cleaner locations I have been too and the staff is very friendly. I usually don't like leaving negative reviews, but this is probably the worst experience I've had at an establishment in a while. I've been a few times and has similar experiences, but this visit tops the cake. My company is currently raising money for the March of Dimes, and as part of our fundraising we decided to sell donuts and kolaches. We have been communicating with the manager for a few weeks, and finally it was the day to pick up our larger order. We asked for the manager, our point of contact, and we were greeted with nothing but rudeness. I've never seen someone roll their eyes and huff and puff as much as she did. But in the end we decided to take our business elsewhere. I won't be back since their donuts are more expensive, and their customer service is less than par than their competitors. read more
