The fact that this gem has less then 10 stars is beyond me. Shipleys donuts are the truth, there's no doubt about it. Glazed, frosted, cakes filled, heck even the kolaches are all FIRE. i just moved here from Houston. Shipleys is THE SPOT for morning breakfast. this was my first time getting donuts here in garland/dallas and i was so freaking disappointed. I spent $20 for me and my girlfriend i went at 7am where all the glazed should be hot an melting in your mouth and these donuts were cold and hard. I got chocolate iced as well the chocolate on top was so thick the donut was cold and i got 2 chocolate glazed they were the worst donuts of the pack. I got 2 jalapeño kolache's and the bread was hard the weenie was smaller then the bread it was in the cheese had a texture like paste it was god awful i wish i could return it and get my money back but i had a busy day I didnt get back home until 8pm that night. Shipleys is my favorite donut shop!!! right next to hypnotic donuts :) this particular location is nostalgia. I grew up in this neighborhood and my mom is still around. I still go back home every now and then but I havent been to this donut shop really since high school....It brings back good memories for sure! my mom used to take me here for breakfast before dropping me off at school. The kids on the bus was scary. They were fighting on seats and Cat is no fighter. I always lose so my mom decided to drive me. Their regular glaze is so soft and fluffy. Umm im not too sure why the drive thru line was long and I was mad at myself for waiting in it to get such mediocre food. Big gigantic bun with a pencil size weiner in it is what they consider a pig in the blanket I guess. The twister was huge and ridiculous as well, didn't even taste like a donut.I've never had a twister that wasn't good, the only thing I enjoyed was the chocolate milk...moral of the story ....this place sucks read more

It's an Old School type of place to get your Donuts, and Kolaches fix. It just brings me back to when I was a kid, my Mother would take us there after getting our haircuts, or when we were just passing by this neighborhood. I used to LOVE eating their classic Jalapeno Kolache with a hot chocolate to compliment it. Ever since the Shipleys closed on Broadway in Garland, I've been craving Shipleys specifically. These are just like the other bad review claims. Flat greasy donuts. I only ate half of a chocolate and one bite of the glazed before I could go on no longer. The terrible aftertaste lasted for an hour and a half. Don't waste your time or dollars here. I saw this doughnut store a few times throughout Dallas so I figured why not try this place out. The doughnuts are soft and not greasy which is nice. The lady behind the counter said the chocolate filled doughnut was a popular pick. For me this doughnut was to sweet. Just went to give this place a second. On my first visit the donuts did not seem fresh (day old). The filling was cold and the dough was heavy. So today, 7/3/18 I went in and as I approached the counter the drive thru attendant came over COUGHED IN HER HAND then said how can I help you. I stood there for 10 seconds and looked then just said I will come back later. If you are going to work with food as a job, please wash your hands if you cough. Also do not pick at your face or mess with your hair. If you are sick stay home or work in an area where you do not deal with the food or customers for the day, bathroom duty. I grew up on these donuts and throughout my lifetime I've probably had a few hundred haha these are my favorite, I love the blueberry cake donuts (both glazed and unglazed) and the sausage cheese kolaches. This location hasn't changed much, it's not dirty or gross, the decor is just dated, no biggie. I know there's newer, hip donut shops in the area that offer that coffeehouse feel with wifi and comfy couches...but honestly this place just feels like home. Like John A., I also grew up in Houston with Shipley's. All their donuts are good, but their plain glazed simply can't be beat. And you know why? Because they are spare with the glaze! Krispy Kremes come close, as far as having a light, yeasty donut, but then KK screws it up by using glaze as if it were icing and drenching the poor donut until it is drowned and all you taste is sugar and your teeth hurt after just one bite! (And I don't have cavities.) Shipley's glaze is so light that it flakes off. No other donut can compare to the perfection of a Shipley's plain glazed donut. Their kolaches and apple fritters are pretty good too, but this rating is strictly for their plain glazed donuts. Oh, and they have drive-thru, too! read more

Hands down, my favorite donut place of all time. As a kid in Houston, I grew up going with my dad to Shipley on weekend donut runs. I think most sleepovers ended with a Shipley breakfast. Usually, we stuck to glazed, strawberry iced, chocolate filled, devil food, kolaches, or donut holes, and each was perfect, especially when washed down with some chocolate milk. This place was recommended by one of my close friend that used to live in Texas. I like the fact that unlike most of Donuts shops this place stay opened to 3pm. Since I moved here from L.A. and are used to 24hr Donuts shops. It took little bit of getting used to the idea of not be able to buy Donuts after 1pm for most part. My husband and I purchased several different kinds of Donuts to try. Such as Glaze, Chocolate Glaze, Chocolate Cream and Sausage Roll. Our favorite was Chocolate Graze and Sausage roll. Over all it's more like 3.5 stars instead of 3. My friend also told us to try Chocolate filled so I'm thinking of trying that next time. read more

For 9 years it has been our tradition to get my daughter hot Shipley donuts on her bday. Even when the Shipley's on Broadway closed- very close to home, we started to go to this location on Ferguson- not close. We noticed last year they weren't quite the same bit thought we just got an off batch. This AM my husband went for the hot donuts and asked the woman at the window for hot glazed, as we have always done. This is at 5:45am. She said it would be 20 min. No problem because we all know hit donuts are the best. When she told the three sitting by the maker one idiot waved his hand and said no it will take an hour!! He polite asked if there was any way to get them sooner than that and the guy threw his hand up again and turned around and continued to do nothing but sit and talk to the other two. The lady in the window apologized. The donuts he got appeared to be old, glaze cracked and no way near the quality of REAL Shipley's donuts. This was an older Shipley's donuts. Pretty standard menu and a friendly staff but the place was definitely run down and in need of updating.

The man I got today ,was not good ,my order was wrong, Ordered 4 cinnamon rolls,,( this was right),,1lemon filled(this was right),told him make the rest of the dozen,glazed.( this is what was wrong,got 3 with chocolate on top???)that was only 8 ,not 12..This was bad enough as some of the donuts were for the A.C. crew that putting in new A.C..I had 1 of the cinnamon rolls..The really bad part was,after I took 2 bits,and pulled it apart,to eat the rest,,I had a long hair,....I don't know if I will go back , anytime soon.The only reason ,I gave them 3 was I have been going here for years.Maybe just a bad day for them and me... read more
