Rebecca is the queen of natural hair and makeup in the Bay Area. I hired her for my bridal party, and she brought out everyone's best features while keeping the look natural and comfortable -- just the most elevated version of themselves. And the hair -- the HAIR! -- was shockingly stunning. She made my girls look like they had extensions, even without them. Every request was nailed effortlessly, and everyone's look lasted all night with zero skin issues. Rebecca is also flexible and kind, staying late without hesitation to accommodate extra services. She's a genius at what she does and the exact kind of calm, positive energy you want on your wedding day. If you want to look natural yet flawless, book her. I'd hire her again in a heartbeat. read more

I found Rebecca through the Thumbtack app and I'm so glad that I took a leap of faith in trusting her to style my hair for my '23 wedding. She's very knowledgeable, patient, and is genuinely passionate in making sure her clients are happy with the finished look. When I first met Rebecca at our trial appointment - I couldn't make up my mind on what I wanted the final look to be. Out of habit, I leaned towards a more slick, glamour up-do - I was used to that style when I was a bridesmaid. Rebecca did my first trial with that style and she nailed it! As we got closer to the wedding date, I started to feel unsure about my hairstyle decision - I felt like it wasn't me and the more I sat with it, I realized I wanted to do something more natural, laid back but effortless. I reached out to Rebecca with my change of heart, I was very apologetic and embarrassed for being a fickle bride, but she was so understanding! I came back for a 2nd trial and we came up with THE style and I felt like a huge weight was lifted! During my wedding, my hair lasted the entire day while remaining natural but put together! Rebecca did a stunning job and I am so grateful for her understanding and invaluable talent. read more

I liked my experience here a lot. I am new to the salon, and to Anita. I couldn't have been more pleased when I left! Two good friends both have seen Anita for years. She used to work at Keter Salon in Berkeley for many years. We had a glass of champagne and chatted and I left with great hair! The place is quite sweet, and small (two chairs), but just the right size for very personalized service. I've been to larger salons and been ignored, so this was a nice change from hustling salon environments. Dopo is just down the block and I enjoyed a glass of wine and snack before heading home. read more

What a breath of fresh air. Their sweet salon in a vintage Victorian just steps from Piedmont Avenue is a little slice of heaven. Anita did a great job with balayage on my blonde hair and took the time to explain my options. After having some rather negative color treatments elsewhere, it was refreshing to find a colorist (she cuts hair, too) who isn't just rushing me through a process so they can get on to their next client. I highly recommend Shine Forth Salon! read more

Rebecca styled my hair and my mom's hair for my wedding this past weekend. She did such an amazing job I felt compelled to write a review even before I leave for my honeymoon! Rebecca was very kind and sweet. She made me feel comfortable the instant I met her. She listened to my concerns and wishes for my hair, and even after she finished styling my hair she asked for feedback and asked if I wanted to adjust the hairstyle in any way. She did the *most* gorgeous soft curly down-do for my wedding hair, and I got compliments on my hair all night long. As for my mom's hair, WOW. She made my mom look like Veronica Lake. I'd hire Rebecca again in a heartbeat! read more

I've been getting my hair cut by Rebecca for two years. She's fabulous! When I first started going to Rebecca, she suggested I consider having my hair cut shorter. The cut she did was fabulous. She figured out my hair and what would look good on me. Friends and acquaintances were more than complementary, they were enthusiastic. She really did a beautiful job. Then, after a while, Rebecca inquired about whether I might want to consider letting my gray grow out. Her suggestion about short hair was such a winner, I decided to follow her advice about hair color. It took a year for it all to grow out. And now I get even more complements, honestly. But, most importantly I feel really good about how my short and gray hair looks on me. Makes me very happy! Thank you, Rebecca! Also, besides the wonderful work Rebecca does with hair, she started a thriving nonprofit that organizes hairdressers to provide haircuts and other services free of charge to homeless people. It's a fabulous program called Haircuts with Heart! Here's a link to their website: https://haircutswithheart.org/ Thank you for all the great stuff you do, Rebecca! So happy I get to go to you for my haircuts! read more

Today I had the perfect experience at the Shineforth Salon!! This was my first haircut there and I couldn't be happier. Rebecca instantly made me feel comfortable and understood exactly what haircut I desired. She gave me useful advice and gave me a haircut that enhances my wavy hair (and accomodates my laziness :) ). Perfection. read more

I recently had a haircut and partial highlights from Anita, one of the two stylists. She is amazing! She listens, she checks the color against you skin tone (which many other stylists forget to do), and she is professional. I'm one of those people who likes to walk out of the salon with a fresh look, yet not too over the top and Anita gets it. She is on point and knows what she is doing. Plus, the salon itself is pleasant and relaxing. I highly recommend, and I'm not easy to please when it comes to my hair. ( : read more

Rebecca (owner of Shine Forth) has been cutting and coloring my hair for fifteen years. Like another reviewer said, occasionally I've gone to other stylists for various reasons, but I always return to Rebecca. Every cut feels good, is exactly what I was hoping for (actually better), makes me feel younger, is incredibly easy to style, and lasts a long time. Rebecca is simply the best. She also happens to be a truly great person, so I love giving her my business. Best hair stylist ever. read more

i am very picky about who cuts my hair and I can say that Anita is a highly skilled stylist. She took a lot of extra time and care, making sure to communicate with me about what I wanted. I felt like we were really working together to create a style that worked for me. I highly recommend her! Also, the salon itself is a very sweet space, and so it made for an all-around great experience. read more

I love Rebecca's new salon. It's in a charming location on Piedmont Avenue. You walk through a beautiful garden and up some stairs to a quiet, intimate, and cheerful salon. Rebecca is a talented and experienced stylist who knows exactly what to do with color and how to keep your hair healthy. She has a calm, friendly disposition and the salon feels really like a place to step out of the frantic world and allow yourself to be pampered. read more

Anita Albini rules. The real deal, a hair magician. (And this is from a ridiculously picky person, who can go into a deep funk over a haircut.) She's also a lovely person, who is easy to be with (figure the odds!!) Sweet, stylish Salon. A tiny, hidden treasure. You'll be delighted. read more

Anita is fantastic! I've been getting my hair cut by Anita for a few years and it is always a wonderful experience. She takes time and pride in every cut. Her work is very high quality. I'm so happy to see her in a new spot. Anita is always willing to try new and edgy cuts in addition to classic or traditional styles. I highly recommend Anita! I don't want everyone to know about Rebecca, but I want everyone to know about Rebecca. Especially if you have wavy, fine hair. So few stylists can deal with. A hidden gem! Rebecca can, on top of being an extraordinary artist, writer, playwright, and person. I might finally stop flying to portland to get my Farah Fawset hair treated expertly. She rocks. read more

I have curly hair and she is down right amazing with it. I would never go anywhere else except her. I had the most amazing experience with Rebecca at her quaint and lovely salon. First of all, she is so charming, I instantly felt comfortable from the moment I met her. She is personable, insightful and knowledgeable without being over bearing. She gives advice about what she feels would be a good look for you while really listening what works for you and your lifestyle. I walked out of her salon loving my cut however, when I got home and played with it I loved it even more! I can say hands-down it is the best cut that I have ever gotten. read more

If I could take Rebecca with me everywhere I would! I am so grateful and luck, as Rebecca recently flew to Texas to style my hair for my wedding. I would not have any other person on the planet other than her touch my hair. I happen to be a hairstylist myself and worked on magazines in NYC for over 10 yrs, so I am rather picky... Aside from how skilled Rebecca is with hair, her ability to listen to your needs and make you always feel calm and comfortable are so impressive. I feel so fortunate to have her with me on the most important hair day of my life! read more

Rebecca is professional, talented and a pleasure to work with! Rebecca and her assistant styled my hair and my 6 bridesmaids hair at my wedding in August 2013. Rebecca listened to exactly what I wanted and I was very pleased with my hair on the day of my wedding! Each bridesmaid was very happy with their hair as well... Which is a hard task to accomplish. All the girls wanted something a little different and Rebecca executed flawlessly. All the girls looked beautiful! Rebecca arrived right on time and was ready to start working! I was able to completely relax and enjoy the day bc of this... I would highly recommend Rebecca to any bride! read more

I have been going to Rebecca for 20 years. She is the best. I have fine naturally curly hair, and now that I am older, my hair is even finer. Rebecca cuts my hair so that it always has volume , but never looks out dated. She is a genius with color and other treatments. Rebecca is also highly regarded in the hair style industry and trains other hair stylists across the country, but she is a completely wonderful regular person. I recommend her without hesitation. I just got the best haircut and color ever from a stylist named Anita! I was really nervous about it because I've been living in Southern Ca and attached to my stylist for a while, but I haven't been able to get my hair done in a while, so when I went up to the Bay area to visit my sister she suggested I go to Anita, (my sister's treat). I couldn't pass up the offer since my roots were getting pretty out of control and my hair really needed some TLC. My sister is a tough customer so I decided to trust her. She was right! Anita is fantastic. She did exactly what I wanted with the color and she gave some great suggestions for a slightly different cut, which I wanted to do. It's not drastically different, just enough--much healthier and fuller looking and the color is beautiful. I couldn't be happier with my hair. I'll go back to Anita every time I get to the Bay area and I highly recommend her. read more
