Always wonderful food!!! Service is friendly and efficient. I almost always get the daily specials. Not only are they a great deal, the food is delicious. Fridays are my favorite (baked steak) but when Shima does his turkey dinner it is great! He makes the best dressing (stuffing) I've had from a restaurant. Everyone around loves the Italian food on Wednesday. The regular menu items are creative and for the most part only found at Shima's. He taught me to eat the egg on ramen (amazing) and the Hiroshima is worthy of a trip to get there. I'm just spoiled that it's close. read more

Went to Shima's because of ratings. Unfortunately, ratings were so wrong. I ordered the patty melt and it was nothing more than a cheeseburger on toasted bread. No flavor at all. I actually left half of it there. Another party at the table ordered a bacon cheeseburger and was told they ran out of bacon. They ordered regular fries with cheese and were told they we're out of regular fries. Also, ordered egg rolls, but waitperson forgot to put the order in. Won't be going back. read more

A friend and I had lunch there today. This was one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had eating out. Our server was amazing and was helpful with our choice for lunch. First time I've tried Shimas after hearing nothing but good things. I ordered it off Grub Hub. I'm glad to say that it was all true. The food was still pretty warm when I got it. Packaged weel, no spills. I think this was the best hot bologna sandwich I've had other than gmaws. The bologna was cut THICK! And the sauce was delicious!! We also tried the Hiroshima.. the sauce was great and it was very filling. Side of bacon fried rice.. delish! For dessert we tired a cherry cheesecake eggroll... perfection!!! This was my first time dining at this hidden gem. It may be a little out of the way if you live in or around Charleston but it is worth the drive. I got the special Chicken salad sandwich and a bowel of Chili for 7.99. The sandwich had a good serving of chicken salad served on texas toast. The bowel of chili was an actual bowel of soup. We were given a sample of the lasagna egg roll which was so good we ordered the sample egg rolls. The egg rolls are fresh and thick with a variety of flavors to choose from. My mom and I went there after reading the mostly positive reviews. We got some egg rolls that seemed to be stuffed with cabbage and carrots and nothing else. VERY bland. No ginger taste, no onion taste. My mom got a hot dog that seemed overcooked and the bun was falling apart and she kept spilling the toppings out of it on her shirt. She said the hot dogs at the Dairy Queen were 10x better. I got the Hiroshima. The rice ball itself was excellent but then it set in this bland vaguely sweet sauce with a bunchy of soggy mushrooms and vegetables. I don't know what happened from the time of all these amazing reviews to the time our dinner was served but it sure wasn't the same place every body's talking about. First off our server was not good at all, she barely even spoke. Our appetizers came out with our dinner. The cheese sticks were burnt and my husband said his wings were burnt under the sauce. He did like his Teriyaki Hamburger and the club sandwich was good. The French fries with cheese were not good at all...they also were burnt a little......what a waste of $6. For the fries. I moved to WV recently and have ordered Shima's through Grubhub. It is by far my favorite of all the restaurants local and chains, St. Albans, Nitro, South Charleston, has to offer. I am addicted to their chicken wings but I always order with sauce on the side because I love their wings just the way they are, no extra sauce needed. I also order the crab puffs which are another fav of mine. I have never been to the restaurant so I'm going by the food only. Best around, by far!!! read more

At first glance this place does not look like much but after a few months of everyone telling me I had to try it and we did. We were extremely pleased with our meal and service and we were checked on many times during our visit and felt very welcome. After asking for suggestions we settled on the Hiroshima rice ball and the kamikaze burger and fries. We had a spicy egg roll and crab puff to start, quite good. Between the two meals the kamikaze burger was our favorite but the rice ball was good as well it came with chicken and vegetables in a fantastic sauce. For dessert we tried the peanut butter and the banana cheesecake dessert both were very good and we both chose the peanut butter as our favorite. My husband and I came here for the first and maybe last, time Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019. We had heard good things about this place. As soon as we went in, 3 different employees started telling us what they were out of. This included French fries and onion rings. We decided to go ahead and try it anyway. We were seated and given menus, and from that point on, it went downhill fast. There were only 2 or 3 other's tables with customers, and yet it took close to 10 minutes before a waitress appeared and took our drink order. We were told they were out of fountain coke and Dr. pepper. When the waitress came to take our order, my husband ordered a hot bologna sandwich with lettuce, cheese, and their hot sauce, and 1 English hot dog. He had wanted fries with his hot dog, but we were told when we first came in, they were out of them. I asked if there was enough of the goulash (the Special), for one order, and she said yes, so I ordered that. A few minutes later I hear what is obviously fries being dumped into the fryer, after we had been told they were out of fries. I asked the waitress and she said, "those are not french fries, those are crinkle cut fries". ???? To us, a fry is a fry!!! So my husband requested crinkle-cut fries with his English hot dog. Waitress come back to the table and says they are out of English dog buns, but could get regular hotdog. Ok, went with that. Probably 10 minutes later waitress walks by the table, and says, "oh I forgot your drinks". Then probably another 15 minutes the food came, girl sat the hot dog/fries down, and says, "we're out of slaw". Almost forgot, I had to ask for silverware! The only thing I could taste in the goulash was the chili powder. Dry and inedible. The green beans were good, thankfully. When my husband bit into the hot bologna, it had tomato, onion, mayo, lettuce, hot sauce and cheese. He had asked for lettuce and cheese and hot sauce. We had to ask for refills of our drinks! When we went to the register to pay, my husband politely told the woman at the register what a disappointing experience we had. When he told her about the bologna sandwich in particular, her comment was, "well, if you had sent it back, we would have re-made it". I told her we shouldn't have had to send it back if they had prepared it correctly in the first place!!! She was very unfriendly and made no attempt to make things We really wanted to like this place, but we cannot understand how a restaurant that is mainly a hot dog/burgers and fries joint, can be out of such basics as french fries, onion rings, cole slaw, buns, and fountain drinks. Very doubtful we will go back, unless it is to try the oriental items on the menu, which weren't available when we were there (like so many other items), because Shima was sick and had to go home. This place is phenomenal. Super friendly -- phenomenal burgers, crab puffs, and BACON fried rice. Just amazing. This is a small, family-owned restaurant with an eclectic, changing menu, so seating is limited and they do run out of things kind of often, but don't let that deter you.
