Okay so me and my friend went into this restaurant with high expectations. We were immediately set off by the price of 21.99 for one person, but we figured that's fine. We had gone to Korean barbecues before very similar to that. As long as they have good size portions and decent servers that will bring you second servings with haste, then there will be no problem. So, we go in and find that we can only choose three types of meat. We are paying per person and yet they have us combine the meat choices we could have into one. That makes no sense as if you came alone, how many choices of meat can you get? The answer is three. My friend and I have very differing tastes in meat so we had some trouble splitting that but we got over it and continued. The table was filled with Korean entrees that we didn't so much as touch, likely coming out of your high bill but whatever. It's just money. The food comes and it's this tiny plate with mediocre tasting meat. We cook and eat it within fifteen minutes and half way through we were asked if we wanted more rice and we got more and waited for the server to come around so we can get another serving. They didn't stop by our table for another thirty minutes and by then we were already full as the food had settled in. They said they would charge us if we left any meat uneaten. Are you kidding me? I already paid 22 dollars for one serving smaller than a 25 dollar steak you can get anywhere else, and now we find out that if we can't finish our second serving we get charged more. Ridiculous. We get the bill and the amount was 47.83. And we barely ate anything. This place is a huge rip off with crappy service and half decent grill that will make it impossible to get the meat cooked right. Horrific, both quality and service have consistently diminished over time. Save time and money and grill the tires on your car if you are wondering what the quality of the meat is like. And, the restaurant is very poorly ventilated. Very different from the Korean BBQ experience we have had at both moderately rated and more superior restaurants. It's sad because when they first opened it wasn't bad and I recommended people check the restaurant out. But, over the past few years it went from a 3.5 to a 2.5 to a 1. Terrible. Absolutely shocked and highly disappointed in this management. I was refused service because it was just myself and my 17 month old son. I have been to this location three times prior to today's visit and have NEVER had an issue dining alone. I guess they have a two person minimum policy. What?? When you have a happy paying customer coming to dine in at your restaurant, you greet them warmly and happily. So if you are looking to enjoy a meal alone, or you are a single parent, I'm sorry... but they won't allow you to dine. Notable included sides-Daikon, Cucumber, Korean Pancake (savory, oniony, GOOD!), Kimchi, Bean Sprouts (with the bean!). It is cook your own with a gas grill imbedded in the table. Staff was helpful, fun and good considering they were slammed. Predominantly Asian (assuming Korean descent) so this is a Two Thumbs Up sign. All in all we had a wonderful, fun time. Not just because you will stink to high heaven from having to cook your own FROZEN meat, but also to wash off the experience of getting charged for not finishing your food. Not sure what was worse: Getting told the frozen meat on the plate is supposed to be frozen "cuz I just get it out of the frozen box" Or the 5 dollar charge per seated person at the table because we didn't finish the frozen meat. Oh ya, and after they charge for not finishing your food, they don't let you take home the leftovers. (Not that they were worthy to be eaten anyways). The server we had was legitimately scared of his boss when we asked him to take back some of the more frost-bitten meat. "we are not supposed to take any meat back" he actually said to us. This will be the only review you need to read if it is your first time going TIPS: -Go when doors open or before to get in right away or be ready to wait a long time -Most tables are meant for 6 people or less so avoid taking everyone you know -Also, everyone needs to be there before you can be seated When getting to your table, explain it's your first time and they happily explain everything in detail for you. Our waitress was very helpful. -3 tiers of menus -$17.99 is perfectly fine if it's your first time -My bill was $47.06 for 2($17.99/ea), 1 drink($2.50), 1 dessert ($5), and tax They have 6 sides including kimchi, ect., a Korean pancake and a salad bowl when you get to your table. Try it but don't fill up on it. It's actually very good, but the purpose of this restaurant is all you can eat meats, not sides. -Bulgogi, spicy short ribs, and beef sirloin are safe choices to start off with and easy to cook -When you cook, things will stick to the grill. Don't panic! -You can use the sauces to dip the meats before spreading them onto the grill to make it easier (and taste to your preference). -They know about things sticking and the grill getting charred so they offer grill changes (they swap the metal of the grill, not your table) -If going on a date ask for small portions each time to avoid the risk of getting full on something you got tired of eating. REMEMBER, it's all you can eat. If you feel yourself start to get full, look at how much you have left. If you've eaten a majority of your meat then you're fine. People here exaggerate how they get charged for not eating what they ask for. You will understand when you go and see how much exactly they bring you. It IS a waste if you ask for it, only to not touch it. Also, someone had mentioned that you need to change after getting home. I have eaten AYCE KBBQ in the bay area and in the LA area and this place sadly is at the bottom of my list of all the KBBQs I have been at. I will give the waitress a break as it was their Grand Opening day and instead focus 100% on the food. I went on their Grand Opening day and surprisingly, it was only a 10 minute wait with a lot of open tables. I ordered the $16.99 menu since it had my favorites such as bolgogi and whatnot. Their kimchi was pretty good. It was pretty spicy. Their cucumber kimchi was too sweet. It lacked the sourness that I am used to. They ran out of stock on the cucumber kimchi about 15 minutes after getting seated. This was approximately 5:45PM. You would think they would have enough in stock especially on their Grand Opening day and considering they had been closed from 3-5 PM. That was a downer because cucumber kimchi is my all-time favorite side. My boneless short ribs were super thick and not cut slim like I am used to. It reminded me of steak since the meat was so thick. We also got the bolgogi, spicy pork belly, NY steak and beef brisket and they all lacked flavor. The spicy pork belly was not spicy at all. They tasted like nothing. It literally looked like they just took it out of the package with no marination. I had to constantly chase my meat with kimchi cause that was the only thing packing flavor on the table. I would've chased it with the cucumber kimchi as well but they ran out of that like I stated earlier. The vents for the smoke seem like they don't even work lol. All the smoke was going on the side and around the vents instead of getting sucked into the vent. It was cloudy inside the room and looked like we were hot-boxing the place up. In conclusion, this is my first and last time going to this KBBQ. I would not recommend my friends or family to go here. I've read the other reviews on here saying that the meat is delicious and whatnot, but sorry not on my visit. My significant other was more disappointed than me because she absolutely loves KBBQ. We originally arrived at 2:00, an hour before lunch ends and began to get seated and then they informed us that we would only be able to pay with card because for today for a reason they couldn't say they weren't accepting cash. So we left to deposit cash at an atm half a mile away, came right back and arrived for the second time at 2:19 to which they ran out the door to tell us they were closed and when I pointed out that the hours posted on the door said they did last seating 30 minutes before close at 2:30 (and we had also already tried to come in twenty minutes before that) she said that on weekends they stop seating at an hour before close. At our original arrival time. Mind you, it's Friday. A weekday. I try really hard to be understanding and treat service industry employees with respect and courtesy because I've only ever done restaurant work and bartending so I personally know these jobs can be really difficult but at that point it was obvious that for some reason or another they just didn't want to serve us. All these reviews sound like people that do not know how to try and experience some culture. This is how the Korean culture is. It is disrespectful to not finish all your food and this occurs even in Korea, so order what you can eat! DUH! The meat is brought out frozen so you can cook it yourself. It is part of the experience! Korean BBQ is like this everywhere! Go to Korea town in LA, Chicago, New York, San Fran, St. Louis, San Jose...etc, you'll cook your meat at your table on the grill. They do not do to-go boxes because then you would order a shit ton more of food and that is not the intention of Korean BBQ. Went tonight for their soft opening. The staff was friendly and helpful. Considering it was their first night open it went very smoothly. Had the hite beer and the whole table really liked it. We also ordered a bottle of their vinegar Korean style sake and one bottle was good for a table of four. They leave out all sorts of small dishes of traditional Korean style sides, kimchi, potato salad, spicy cucumber, bean sprouts and more. All homemade and very good, my favorites were the potato salad and kimchi. The kimchi had a nice spicy bite. For dinner you order off of a menu with three groups, which are organized by price. The more expensive the more choices. We went for the middle of the road which suited the table fine. The whole table has to agree on one level as you all have to get the same. You then choose three meats and they bring it out to your table where you start to cook it on your own grill. It's social and kind of fun, everyone kind of takes their turn at being head chef. Each grill is specific to a table so you don't have to eat with people you don't know if that bugs you. They make a very good Korean pancake, with lots of green onions. They were good but I've only had them one other. For the brass tacks...the meat, all of the choices were very high quality and brought out in generous portions. Table favorite was the bulgogi, nice marinated flavor and very tender. Next in line was the short rib, which again had a very good marinade. We also had NY strip, rib eye, brisket and shrimp. One thing they need to do is give you seasoning for these last cuts because they come out naked and need something. The quality of meat was there just needed salt and pepper. Last dessert, we had the red bean shaved ice with milk. I had never had it before but was told it's traditional, didn't really care for it. We also had a strawberry ice cream dessert that was wrapped in an almost jelly like dough. Really different but everyone liked it. I think this place will do well, the owner was walking around and very involved. Their first in town with this style eating, I'm sure they will tweak things around by the time they fully open later this week. The more I went here the worse it got. Food is mediocre and tasteless. If you want real korean BBQ go to SoCal, or korea itself. I stopped my Breaking Bad marathon to write this review. Just shows how dedicated I am to Yelp. First of all, I love Korean BBQ. I've been to places in the bay and in so cal so I may be picky but this place just didn't have the true Korean BBQ taste or atmosphere. For those who have experienced it else where -- it may be disappointing but for Fresno's first try at it - its not too bad. Atmosphere: The place was new thus very clean. I liked the interior design throughout the restaurant. It was simple contemporary (wait - i don't really know if that is how one would really describe it but hey this is my review not HGTV :D). There was music when I arrived with my party but sometime throughout the meal it stopped. I don't exactly remember when as I was busy perusing the menu. I did however notice that the grill seemed small and the vents were new and seemed to be working awesomely! I particularly liked that you were able to dine outside. Options: There are many options at seemingly reasonable prices (check out me pictures). The lunch $11.99 seems to be the real steal but beware! you need to come with at least one other person at this restaurant. Parties of 8 or more are also charged 18% gratuity. AND they are really trying to deter wasteful ordering with a $5 charge. Protocol: Six sides and a mixed salad are ready for you upon being seated. Drinks are up first then pick your meal plan and order up to three items at a time from the list. Meat arrives - place it on the grill with given tongs [CONTAMINATION!! Do not use your chopsticks to pick up the raw meat, if you really have to- use the opposite end of your chopsticks ( i usually only do this for beef & when everyone is stealing my meat!)]. Once its cooked, eat up then order 3 more! (NOTE: if you need to adjust your temperature, the dial is under the table at the end that the server can reach - do not put it too high though as it may burn some meats!) The goods : I went during lunch and tried the bulgogi, brisket, spicy pork, spicy chicken, pork, and tofu soup. According to some - rice was unlimited throughout lunch but my party never received the rice we asked for 3 times (its "cooking"). The bulgogi was sliced way too thick and was not flavorful. It did not even seem marinated. The spicy pork and chicken were forgettable..The brisket was the best because it was sliced thin BUT it came out FROZEN. (NOTE: Dip all meat in the available ponzu sauce).Tofu soup was DEFINITELY not korean style (bland --- pork? broth -- a bit of soon du boo seasoning "dong...j...something something" to try to bring in a little Korean touch BUT no go for me) . and the sides?...they were the (mostly) traditional sides without the taste. There were only 6..yep i said it! 6! choices and the only consistently delicious choice was the potato egg salad - which is not something I usually have at K BBQ places. The Kimchi was SURPRISINGLY delicious at first and then on the 2nd round rather plain. The marinated cucumber was sweet? and then the rest was forgettable. ..actually in short..all the food was bland, inappropriately cut and forgettable. Service: Horrid. Our server was nice but was way too slow. She barely filled the waters and the rice we ordered 3 times..never arrived. We had to remind her the specific dishes we ordered. This was my family's first time there ever and there was 7 of us 6 adults 1 child, we were talking with the waiter and he confirmed that my lil cousin was considered a child price which was $14 instead of $30 so we ordered got everything sat there and ate and the food was good but here comes everyone's tabs and she got charged as an adult so we asked why did it change what happened and he said oh because she didn't make the height range for the child price mind you the hight range was up to 5 feet, 60 in we told them what do you mean she is 5 feet she's only 12 years old how tall do you think she is so he went and called the owner/manager and he was soooo rude to us! Where am I coming from on this one? I've never had Korean bbq before. Always heard of it, but this was the first time trying it. First impressions - we went at dinner time on Monday night. It was busy but we were seated in five minutes. The hostess needs to find another line of work. She looked annoyed that we showed up and wasn't very communicative. I'm not going to draw any conclusions about her unfriendly attitude, but no matter what kind of restaurant or what kind of customer, a hostess should be welcoming, informative, and maybe smile? We were seated and greeted by Tia, our server. We had to coax it out of her a little, but she was helpful and informative. Someone else mentioned this, and yes the chairs are too low or the tables too high, especially when you're cooking your own food. The dining itself was quite an experience. We had fun cooking the meat and veggies and trying some new things. I've had many cucumber salads and this one was very good. I've read that grills are switched out sometimes and that would have been helpful, but no one offered to do this. The Korean pancake was better than it looked and it looked pretty good! Overall, I enjoyed the food and will feel much more prepared as far as knowing what to order next time. Will there be a next time? That's the question of the night. If I can just be blunt, I didn't feel altogether welcomed there. All you experts who have reviewed this place and let us know how experienced you are at AYCE KBBQ seem to be part of the issue. I felt a bit as if I was inconveniencing everyone else by showing up and not knowing exactly what to do. We got some stares and not a lot of friendliness. Maybe the restaurant just wants to cater to a certain clientele and if they can be successful that way, then more power to them. But here's a news flash - this ain't LA baby. This is the Central Valley. It's a friendly little place and we put restaurants out of business left and right. So here's hoping the service improves. I prefer places in LA Koreatown, but for Fresno, this place is top notch. The service is nice, there's an asian worker with bleached hair and he's gorgeous. But that's beside the point. The noise level is medium, but it's nice. Makes it feel like a legit Korean restaurant. The meat is good and their pancakes are awesome, I recommend getting bulgogi, spicy chicken, and brisket. I walked in for lunch and this place was dead, I saw two couples eating. That's a red flag when Habit around the corner has a line outside the door. There were two people standing around the hostess which is also a bad sign for what should be the peak time of the day. The hostess was nice and apologetic when she told me there was a $5.00 fee to dine alone. I could understand this for dinner but umm, it's lunch time. Most people who go out to lunch are working and go alone. I asked if anyone eats here for lunch alone. She said no. From what I saw I have to believe this place won't be around for long. First off, we love this place and are regular customers. However, the service has gone downhill recently due to new waitstaff hired -- in particular, Jonathan. He is very lifeless, nonchalant, and generally does not seem to care about his job. Our usual waiter, Eric, was the best and going from such good service to Jonathan's level of service is disappointing. The lady who greets us at the door and acts as manager thankfully pays attention and makes up for Jonathan's shortcomings. We hope that better waitstaff will be hired because this kind of service has begun making our visits unpleasant. read more

Shila has been opened a little while, but I just haven't had the chance to drive over to try it until tonight. I went with the family: 2 adults, 3 kids, and an infant). Before I go any further, just a bit of caution to all families with children. Make sure your children are not taller than 52" tall. Regardless of age, they will be charged a FULL ADULT pricing if they are 52" or taller. My 10 year old that ate 3 pieces of chicken meat and was charged an adult price of $20.99. Wow! (Kids 33" to 41" are $10; and 42" to 52" are $12 and over $52, adult price.) Now back to the review. The store is closed between 3:00 PM and 5:00PM for preparation. We arrived around 5:30PM; signed up with the front desk, and waited outside. There is not waiting room inside the restaurant. Everyone waits outside. There is outside seating if you also like. It took about 20 minutes for us to be called in. As we sat, our waitress came to us about 5 minutes later to take our drink orders. The décor of the inside is casual. My concern is that their chairs are a little bit too low for the height of their tabletop. The menu was kind of confusing. I've been to other KBBQ before, and didn't have to worry about which category of prices I need to select. For Dinner, there were three different prices. Each category of pricing had about 3 more meat selections. The different in pricing is just a couple of dollars. However, if you have a few people with you, that can end up being another $15 to $20 difference between each category. We opted for the $20 all you can eat selection. The meat selection was okay. To say that it was quality meat; it was not. Although not good in quality, I liked the following: BBQ chicken; bulgogi; beef sirloin. The other meats are bland. You need to dip them in the sauce you have on your table before grilling them. It gives it more flavor. The Good: + If not busy, seating is quick. + Choice of meats are okay + place is new (keep it new) The Bad: - Pricing for children due to height - The waiter that waited on us needs more training. Although she was very nice, we had to ask for every little thing. Every time I needed my soda refilled, I had to ask. I tried placing my cup on the edge of the table to make it obvious, but apparently it was not. When coming by, she rarely asked to see if we needed anything. To the management, more training for these waiters please. When you notice that a customer's meat plate is gone, please come by and ask. If you notice that a appetizer dish is empty, please ask. Don't let customers be the ones asking. - Confusing menu choices. I think that having a Lunch/Dinner section is good enough. - No manager observed walking around. When was asked about the pricing of children, the waitress told us she would take it off. She came back and stated that she could not take it off. This would have been a great opportunity for a manager to come by and talk to us. - Second grill we had left a oily black residue on our brisket. The meats cooked with this grill smelled oily. - Restroom was dark due to the color of the walls. - Toilets had no seat covers. I had to make my own make-shift cover utilizing the toilet papers. The Verdict: Establishment is new. Plenty of meat to eat. Service was sub-par. At least the service that we got. We had a very good experience at this restaurant. Very good food (actually fun to cook it yourself, IT'S PART OF THE EXPERIENCE!!), nice atmosphere (For those of you having a hard time opening the door, stop going to all you can eat places and join a gym), and WE ATE ALL THAT WE ASKED FOR! You can ask for a smaller portion if you aren't sure you can finish, try it. Some of these reviews are unbelievable. "No Greeting when Walking In". Oh my, should they kiss you on the cheek and give you a big hug. Charged $5 dollars for wasting food. Good. Try asking for less to try before you send half of it to the trashcan. "Had to cook it myself." Duh. Educate yourself a bit and don't punish a place because you have no clue what the place is about. Again, you can ask for a smaller portion. You don't have to get a big pile of meat and then waste half of it. Very good place and I hope it lasts. read more

First off, I'm not sure what the big deal with the rice paper is. I've been to AYCE KBBQ about a dozen times so far in CA and only once did I use rice paper. I consider it optional. That being said, VERY happy to have a local KBBQ place in Fresno. Highly recommend the bulgogi, short rib, and bbq chicken. The sirloin is still a giant portion, but which may turn off some, but all of the other portions were appropriate. The tofu soup is only okay, the steamed egg is fine. Plus for new grills, tongs, and scissors, although you won't come away not smelling like barbeque. Excellent wait staff from the two visits I've gone so far. Price is higher than most places I've been to in LA, but not as bad as some in the bay area. As far as wait time, it varies, but our group of 7 got in on Saturday night with only a 15min wait. They call you when your table is ready but there really isn't much in the surrounding mall to look at. read more

I am kind of torn on how to review this place. On one hand Korean food is probably my favorite asian food, but on the other hand I discovered that cooking my own food is kind of a pain! The restaurant itself is nice. All of the staff was friendly, our waiter was on top of things and checked on us regularly, and the decor while kind of bland and inoffensive was at least clean. My girlfriend and I came in for lunch and we got the cheaper of the two lunch options. We got our first and only round of meat, and cooked it up. The Bulgogi and pork belly were both good, but the brisket wasn't my favorite. However I found that although the meat was good and once cooked tasted fine, I just didn't like having to cook it. Also my fear of undercooked food caused me to have to overcook it since I didn't want to chance eating undercooked pork. This may be something that doesn't seem like such a chore if you have a bigger party, but for two people it just sort of felt like a chore. read more

The wait wasn't that long to be seated. It was about 30 mins on a Sunday afternoon. However, when we did get in, there was BARELY any people. What is up with the wait then!? Nothing special about this place. The side dishes were the best thing about this place, especially the kimchi, which was actually somewhat spicy. The amount of meat each round was always never enough. Not only that, the meat just wasn't anything special. It was just tasted like plain cut meat that you can buy from the supermarket even the "marinated" ones. The spicy pork belly didn't taste any different from the regular pork belly. The bulgogi kept falling through the cracks of the grill so by the time it was done, there was only a few bites of it left. My party had 4 people and each time we'd get about 2 or 3 bites of each meat. NOT worth the $80+ at all! Skip this place and just grill meat yourself and save the $$$ read more
