Their vanilla latte and peanut butter cookies are my go-to items and they pair so nicely together! They have a variety of seating options such as the bar, tables, couch, outdoor, etc. They also have a 50 cent discount if you bring your own mug! You can't miss trying their house-made scones; the goat cheese and rosemary for something savory and the espresso chocolate chip for something sweet are especially craveable. It's a great place to study with lots of couches and chairs. The coffee was OK. Their chai was a little bland. Don't go to this place for a meal. They specifically only have coffee. I will go back because I like coffee and it's a great place to study, but it could use improvement. read more

Eau Claire, Wi. The Good: Wow, a place in Wisconsin that makes an excellent latte. It was Father's Day, yet the line moved fast. I settled into a nice couch and munched on a delightful blueberry scone. I consumed a large portion of this before the coffees were ready. Perfect scone, the only sweetness emitted by the blueberries. The latte's were perfect. Rich espresso with a nutty finish. The crema was thick and rose up through the froth in an almost oily fashion. Probably one of the best lattes I've had. A great discovery here after a week of pathetic latte's. The Bad: The Shift store set up at the Blue Ox Music Festival was a huge disappointment. First of all it insulting to be served a tiny half serving at full price regardless as to how you spin it. It's about the customer, not you. The espresso machine is a joke. It's one of those crappy things where they load up about a dozen servings in a large filter holder. Probably good if you're there early. If you're twenty espresso shots behind, good luck on any flavor. I never saw them refill or change the filter cup. This weak machine produces weak warm (Not Hot) espresso. The steamer is also weak and the milk is only warm. The coffee flavor is good but the entire drink experience is dismal. We were told that yes, they would be serving their tiny latte's on Sunday morning when everyone else there is closed. Guess what? Come Sunday morning it was coffee only, no lattes. At this point I did not even care. Since the experience at their downtown store was so good, the festival experience is only a one star deduction. read more

They just opened a week ago. Its a coffee shop in the front and a bicycle shop in the back. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. They have baked items as well as craft coffee and espresso. The bicycle shop sells Kona bikes (Mt bikes) and another company for their cruiser/comfort bikes (I forgot the name). Their website says they repair bikes, do mobile repair, and build custom bikes. I did see a rack full of oldies. Thats gotta be a first for the Chippewa Valley. Good idea! Definitely unique and a welcome addition to Eau Claire's growing downtown vibe. Cant wait till the weather is warm and their garage door can be opened. Go check 'em out! read more

Whenever I'm traveling through small cities and large towns I always find the local coffeeshop. Then I imagine buying a house and moving there and hanging out at the coffeeshop everyday. SHIFT made me look up Eau Claire airline flight schedules and check the local school ratings too. This cafe is a ten minute detour off i94 through a super cute town with a pot of gold at the end: delicious homemade waffle-fritters (like a sweet waffle donut), cookies, salads, Intelligentsia coffee, and a decent selection of local craft beers. There are comfortable spaces inside to sit, and a charming back patio and seating in front too, local but not-bad art, oh and a BICYCLE STORE. In a time of increasing isolation and political despair, I'm so grateful spaces for humans like this exist. Would detour again! read more

Both my roommate and I have been here twice. Both times we went we were unimpressed. 1. Both times we went, the same one guy was behind the counter. We went on a Sunday during dinner time, not the typical time for coffee. However, the service was so slow and I felt bad for the poor guy who had to keep up with all of the drinks. I watched a few customers leave the store because they didn't want to wait. Very very slow service. 2. The coffee is way way way too overpriced. The sizes are way too small and the prices are way too high. I wouldn't mind paying if the coffee or tea if was good but I've had better at chain coffee places. The chai was watered down and you got about the same size as a tall at Starbucks for 5 dollars. 3. I got overcharged, for my drink the first time I went. Instead of refunding me the money that he charged, the barista gave me two free coffee coins. I was okay with that. Until I went to use them. It definitely didn't equal the amount he overcharged me. I got a very small coffee that tasted kinda like water. It also took 50cents off of my roommates drink. So much for the coupons. 4. Parking is impossible to find due to it being next to a club. Also, the surrounding area to the shop is not a safe part of town. The good: The atmosphere was charming and my mocha I had the first time I went was very good. read more

So I've given this place the benefit of the doubt for months now and tried a bunch of their different offerings. They were 100% all bad, like the worst. One time I asked for a dark roast and the kid behind the counter said "we don't have that" and then just stared at me. I've never felt comfortable being in there and it seems like unless you know someone you don't get served in a timely fashion at all. I had high hopes the first time I stopped in as I always like to go to the indy coffee shops when I'm traveling for work. This place looked like it might be cool like some places I go in Minneapolis and Chicago, but nope, it's the worst. read more

A fun downtown local coffee shop that has more of an edge to it compared to other coffee shops. Easy to get to, never really a long line, but ALWAYS hopping with college students studying here. Hence the name "shift CYCLERY" they also fix bikes here too which is super cool. Coffee (pretty much any way you like it), kombucha, sandwiches, wraps, bakery items (breads, muffins, cookies..) are available. Bathrooms located in the middle of restaurant. Seating in front or in back, or you can sit at the "bar" in the middle! A really neat spot to be, good prices, good variety for being a coffee shop! read more

I regularly come here, and have had decent experiences each time. However, I literally just witnessed a guy come in and stand at the counter to order coffee and not get served. He stood there for about 7 to 8 minutes, and the guy behind the counter said "hey" but didn't stop cleaning dishes to take the guy's order. He just stood there and the employee ignored him. The potential customer clearly got annoyed and left. It was really weird to watch and it made me empathetically upset for the guy who was never helped. I love Shift! Just about the coolest atmosphere you could ask for in a coffee shop/bike shop. Great coffee (they use inteligencia and ruby coffee from Nelsonville, WI). Coffees are fair prices and excellent. Lots of fun places to sit and talk. Cool merch too! And it you need a new bike or a tune up, you can enjoy a nice cup of coffee while waiting. One of the newer places in town and I was really impressed with the concept of joining a coffee shop with a bike repair shop! It is definitely an odd combination but it seems to work out very well for the owners. They have AMAZING waffles and good coffee at a reasonable price! I've been to shift twice with my sisters. The first time it took 30 minutes to make a carafe of decaf coffee. It's a great coffee shop, decorated nicely. The second time it took 20 minutes to get a cappuccino. When we asked for a chemicix decaf for two cups I asked if it would take 20 minutes. He said no. He was right because it took 30 minutes. When I asked about it he said he was doing his best and he was. The place was packed and he was taking orders, money and making all the drinks. There was a woman behind the counter. It looked like she was mixing up batter for baked goods. She didn't do anything to help him. I told him his employer wasn't taking good care of him and in turn he wasn't able to take care of customers. My sisters had to get their coffee to go and he gave them their money back for their coffee. What we really wanted was to have our scones and coffee together and enjoy the experience of being there. I want to patronize this place but the owners are making it difficult by being understaffed. read more
