I was "sale talked" into an Invisalign Riviera Retainer for half the price with 4 retainers...I was "sold" I had problems with the retainer right away, I was told it was something wrong with me not his retainers! I of course had to find a new orthro right away all my teeth where now moving. original braces where 10 years ago that was not normal. I just wanted a new replacement retainer!! I have never been dismissed so quickly by a doc after he got my money! I am now in new braces from a different Orthro as the only way they can stop my teeth from shifting from the Invisalign retainer was to get them back to where they were before 07/14/2025 ! So I've gone here twice so far - first for x-rays and a cleaning, and the second time to have a…read morelarge cavity filled. It's not a "conventional" office per se, and the first time I went I wasn't even sure that I had the right place. It's run out of a house, and I didn't see any signs. There were also a lot of vehicles that looked like they needed work in the parking lot. For a second I considered that it might be a mechanic. But it is definitely a dental office! I have read numerous reviews that mention rude staff, but I have not experienced that at all. Both the dentist and the hygienist have been extremely talkative and friendly. There IS a cat, which I actually really like, though I have only seen it once chittering at birds from the window. The waiting room has comfy couches, a tv with streaming services on it, magazines, and some other random things to keep you busy. I DO have to agree with reviews that say the office needs to be cleaned. The waiting room is nice, but back where you have dental work done the place needs some love. It would really be my only complaint so far. I was surprised that he was going to use gas for my filling, though he did not have a problem with me declining it at all. He said they do it because most people hate the needles, and it sounds like it is their standard care for dental procedures. A plus for those that have anxiety, for sure. The filling process itself was great. It was probably the easiest filling I have ever had, honestly! He used something called air abrasion instead of the traditional drill, and I got through it without gas, needle numbing, or any discomfort whatsoever, which I was very happy about. I can't comment on whether or not they are good about emergency visits, because fortunately I have not needed one of those yet. And I have also read one review that mentioned dental work like fillings not lasting. I can not comment on that either because my filling is new, but I will definitely update if any issues arise!

The instruments never pass the sterilization test, so you can catch a bacteria in any moment; if the doctor is by himself be prepared to catch a infection too bc he's re-using equipment without cleaning it; the back office is a disaster and looks like a basement (boxes everywhere and old machines that doesn't work but he will re use in order not to spend some bucks in new ones); you can see cat hair flying over the patients open mouth; the doctor constantly lost track of procedures in patients because doesn't follow the appointments book; he doesn't keep record of payments and double charge patients that clearly already paid so if the patient didn't ask for a receipt they will find a big problem because the doctor always forgets everything and won't remember that you already paid). This doctor may seen "nice and kind" but behind his warm personality theres a sick and a liar person. He has a taste in young women in their 20's and every time a young patient comes he starts to do comments about her looks and ask them about their marital status to offer them job in this office with more personal intentions. Not to mention his "fake hugs".. You can see the uncomfortable face in the patients when he does that without asking first. He's dishonest, don't have ethic and treat his assistants like trash this is the reason why all the assistants he had do not last more than 1 month, but he will tell you another story(that didn't work out bc she was problem). A person who knows their value and has ethics will never stay in this unprofessional place. So if you are a mom who has a young daughter or you are thinking in working in this place please please keep looking. I'm not saying this because of hate, I'm saying this because I wished someone who knows what is going on in there and works in that place would have told me this before.

I understand we could have checked on our own, but she didn't think of that and it's our backwards healthcare system in this country that is mostly to blame. But GOOD providers are proactive in telling new patients if they are in-network or out-of-network as soon as you provide insurance prior to visit. When I paid the bill I suggested they do this every time. (Maybe they are, but forgot in this instance.) We pay for dental insurance and it would have been free in-network, but we paid $177 for a cleaning (insurance picked up $132 of the bill only) for out-of-network.

I made an appointment for March 7th for x-rays, cleaning, and an exam for $368.00. Everything…read morestarted out fine with  Marlene,  the hygienist she  took x-rays and then  cleaned my teeth. She stated she didn't see anything on the x-rays that were a concern she stated "everything looks good ".  Dr. Merkley came in shortly afterwards and sat down towards the back of my head, not in front of me so I could see him, I had to turn around in the dental chair to shake his hand. Very rude I thought, why not wheel his chair in front of me to face me when speaking to me, but he never did. He then proceeded to ask Marlene how the x-rays looked, again she stated everything looked good. He asked me why I was there, I explained my pain initially started on the bottom left but moved to the upper right. I told him the night before I bent over and felt a pop in my nose and my right ear, he automatically said it's a sinus infection.  He never checked the teeth I was complaining about. My old dentist would blow air or water to try and get a reaction,  he did absolutely nothing.  He then proceeded to count my teeth and was telling Marlene numbers and I believe if they were crowns or implants,  he said ok nice to meet you and I said do I still use the orajel? He said no  your teeth are sensitive. He then left the room, he was in there less than 2 minutes,  he did not perform an oral exam, he never checked what teeth were bothering me, and how could I have a sinus infection and then have sensitive teeth? I paid my bill, left and hoped the pain would go away, I went and bought sensitive toothpaste but by Friday I was in so much pain I was taking 4 advil every 4-5 hours. I called my primary and was given an appointment for Monday March 13th at 9 am. The nurse practitioner checked my head and sinuses and nothing hurt, she did not believe it was a sinus infection.  She was nice enough to give me lidocaine for my mouth and a prednisone pack if there was any inflammation.  At this point I am livid because I paid Dr. Merkley $368.00 dollars and he did absolutely nothing for me. I called the office and spoke with Danielle and explained to her why I was upset, I don't think he should be asking a hygienist if there is anything wrong and it was also wrong that he never checked the teeth I was complaining about. Danielle called me back a couple hours later after speaking to Dr. Merkley and Marlene,  the new story I was given by Danielle told by Marlene and Dr. Merkley is that he spoke to me about tmj and grinding my teeth, I laughed and said that was a complete LIE, none of that was ever mentioned to me, she then proceeded to tell me that they also said he could see my sinus cavity on the x-ray and that is why he mentioned a sinus infection. So did I have a sinus infection or sensitive teeth?? Because he stated both issues.  My teeth aren't sensitive to hot, cold or sweets so how he came to that conclusion I would love to know, because he definitely didn't test my teeth to find out. Now I have to pay another dentist to get a proper exam. I truly believe Dr. Merkley totally scammed me, he did not provide an oral exam and made his decision based off the fact that I stated my nose and ear popped the night before.   Sincerely,   Tina Benge
