I'm back to write more about how much I love this place. Dr. Raetz is the real deal dentist - I wish all dentists were as honest and professional as he is. Gina knows what she's doing and if you don't floss she'll tell you. My last post was focused on these people being funny (and yes they still are), but they are really good at what they do. A few trips ago a girl walked in just crying uncontrollably. I don't know what her story was (maybe she hates dental work, idk) but the front desk secretary was so kind to her and talked her through whatever paperwork was going on & 10 minutes later it was all ok. Dr. Raetz & Gina & other staff are perfect for people of all ages and backgrounds. Strong Thousand Islands theme in the waiting room & a cool teeth bench outside. Cool office, good vibes. The doctor spent a few seconds checking my teeth, just repeated what the hygenist said. Another dentist from another clinic found issues only a few days after their "cleaning" that they did not do and charged my insurance for. The equipment/machines are old and rugged. Their forms asked so many questions (hard to check on PDF that they asked to fill out and print out to bring), but they did not bother to check/read those, wasting our time and energy. read more

Nice office with friendly staff and convenient hours...if you have healthy teeth. I got my first cavity and Dr Raetz filled it. No explanation of what to expect and he was in and out in 10 minutes. I moved shortly after and saw a dentist for a routine cleaning and xrays. They found that he had damaged the tooth next to the cavity (hole in the shape of a drill) and the filling he had placed was chronically irritating my gums from poor placement. I had to have his filling removed a few months after it was placed and now have a 2nd filling to repair the damage he caused. Nice and friendly doesn't always equal good care - beware! read more

My husband and I were referred to Dr Raetz by a friend after having a terrible experience with a practice within walking distance. Dr Raetz is honest and takes pride in his work. He isn't looking for expensive fixes or ways to make more money - he is looking out for his patients dental health! I also switched my children here from a pediatric practice after the dentist I had seen when I was a child went into semi retirement. I was hesitant not keeping them at a pediatric practice because it is all I knew as a child myself and as a mom, but it was a great decision! His practice is excellent with children and he is able to get us in same day when we have had accidents or concerns with their teeth. Gina our hygienist is fun and she keeps us comfortable and entertained at our appointments. We literally schedule all three kids at once for our cleanings and they quickly move us along. Going to the dentist doesn't feel like a burden and we trust their opinion after having had such a terrible ongoing experience previously. I love Dr. Randy's office! It really doesn't feel like a trip to the dentist at all. The staff members are all so nice and friendly, from the front desk, to the dentist chair. My hygienist is Mary Jo and she does a very thorough job, but never hurts me (this has always been my experience with other hygienist before). Mary Jo is sweet and cheerful and puts me at ease. We went to Dr Randy for a few years. The office is great and super modern. It is a little odd to have tour teeth cleaned with a TV of reviews telling you how great the dentist is on the wall is but whatever. We had always had fine experiences here until my son needed two cavities filled. Each time it took about 10 minutes and seemed like he rushed through. He doesn't believe in using nitrous so each experience was HORRIBLE! One filling popped out and had to be refilled which was super annoying. When the filling popped off Dr. Randy told me it must have been a filling that another dentist did before we came to him. My son had never been to another dentist as he started here at age two. Needless to say after this experience and when our hygienist left, we left the practice. Our new dentist found major issues with the dental work Dr. Randy did. My son had to be referred to a pediatric specialist and has had six appointments to fix the two teeth that had fillings done by Dr Randy. He didn't get all of the decay off before he filled them so they have been decaying underneath the filling. My son lost one of the teeth and now has a silver cap on the second one. I'm so glad they were only his baby teeth and we stopped going to this place before he had any issues with his adult teeth! My son now also has MAJOR anxiety around going to the dentist from his time at this office. read more

When I moved to Rochester I asked a few friends to recommend a dentist and Dr. Randy was recommended. He supports many of the causes I'm passionate about so I went for it. I've passed along the recommendation more times that I can say in the seven years since. My hygienist Maureen is the BEST! One thing I love about this practice is that you work with the same hygienist every visit, so when you go in you see a friendly face and already know the person who will be stuck digging around in your chompers for 20 minutes. Randy is great too, I haven't actually needed anything outside of a cleaning so I can't speak to those services, though I would be confident with getting more extensive work. I found my entire experience with Dr. Randy Raetz' office extremely pleasant. I was concerned that I had a cavity, and didn't have the time to go all the way home to get it checked out (ok, to be fair, I've been living here for 2.5 years, it was time to find a local dentist), so I searched for the best dentist in the area. I found nothing but positive reviews on yelp, google, and reddit. I called them up to ask about the pricing, since I currently don't have dental insurance, and they were very nice and straightforward with me, which I really appreciated. My office visit itself was a really great experience, everyone was friendly and professional. They asked me about what my symptoms were, took an x-ray, and then the dentist came in to chat with me about my teeth. No cavity (what a relief)! Instead, because I've recently started taking better care of my teeth (I got a waterflosser for xmas), apparently I've uncovered some sensitivities. Dr. Raetz told me that he could put a filling over the sensitive spot, but he said that came with its own complications, and instead suggested that it would eventually become less sensitive over time, recommended using some crest sensitivity strips (which he gave me a few samples of), and to keep an eye on it. I really appreciated his honesty, and that he wouldn't just do any unnecessary procedures. read more

How many dentists do you know who are Foursquare Mayors of their own offices? That's Dr Randy! He's super-excited about everything while still being extremely professional and a great dentist. He can always get you in immediately when you're in a pinch, and appointments start and begin on time. I found Dr Randy after a horrible experience with another dentist who told me that every single filling in my mouth needed to be replaced because they had all gone bad. I went into Dr Randy's for a second opinion and have been happy every since! [None of my fillings needed to be replaced.] My absolute favorite part about Dr Randy's office is that you can choose how you want your reminder calls -- email, text, phone call. It's super simple and super un-annoying. Plus, they always send me birthday e-cards ... how special I feel. :) read more

Most dentists push you towards different teeth services for your teeth problems but what makes Dr. Randy different is he wants to hear your story and advice you on how you can prevent teeth issues instead of jumping right into drilling into your teeth. His strategy of making you avoid unnecessary bills for preventable issues at the same time guiding you to work on necessary treatments is a win-win situation than a dentist who provides all the fancy services without advising you on how you can take care of your teeth. For example: If you ask what can be done about stains, a dentist will jump into teeth whitening treatment but Dr. Randy would analyze and see what is actually necessary and ask you follow certain measures because he knows and will advise how teeth whitening doesn't end with one treatment in a lifetime. Of course, he does an amazing job even if you want celebrity treatment and wants all the tiniest unnecessary teeth services. read more

No offense to my past dental providers, but Dr.Raetz is the best dentist I have ever experienced dental work with. He pulled all four of my wisdom teeth in one visit with out having to put me to sleep. Even though I'm afraid of dentists in general, furthermore getting my teeth pulled, Dr.Raetz and his wonderful staff who are so friendly and comfortable to be around took the edge of my fears. Granite , I was extremely afraid to get four wisdom teeth pulled while conscious, Dr.Raetz was calm , cool , and collective, and made the whole (over hour and a half) process PAINLESS. I was shocked at his great skills. My dentists in the past do not compare to Dr.Raetz, including one former dentist in the past to took my tooth out without enough novacane and had me go though a great amount of pain( even though I raised my hand 10 times). I found a new appreciation for dentists with Dr.Raetz , and evolutionary trend of having nice and outgoing staff to make a scary situation fear free and comfortable. Cherry on top was the fact that Dr.Raetz personally called me a few hours after my procedure to see how I was doing. Showed me he cares and that I'm not just another patient out of many. My wife and kids are enrolled in his office for life. I'm glad he is not a traditional old dentist which means he won't retire anytime soon hopefully . I called their office this morning with an emergency my son is having. He is at RIT and I live in San Diego. The person I spoke with was completely unsympathetic and unhelpful. I explained that it was an emergency, my son had been awake since 2:00 am in severe pain. She told me they could see him in 3 days. I wonder what she would think if someone treated her and her son's emergency as callously as she treated ours. I then asked if she had a referral and she said I should look online. I've been going to Dr.Raetz for almost 8 years and he is by far the best dentist around. He keeps up to date with technology, cares for his patients and ensures you are always well informed. Besides Dr. Raetz, the staff is outstanding. My dental hygienist Mary Jo is amazing! She's fun to talk to and always makes sure your teeth look their best before you leave the office. I would not want anyone else to clean my teeth. If I had to chose someone else then I would go to Gina, another awesome staff member in the office. My progression with quality of dentists has been a gradual one, but i think i've hit the zenith. As a child, my dentist was an old man who practiced out of his back room (I'm sure it was legit...), my second was a unnamed pretentious area dentist who made me feel terrible about my teeth every time I had a semi annual cleaning. Dr. Randy Raetz's office is a whole new and better experience all together. I never feel bad when I leave there. I am always treated with respect and never feel guilty! The staff give great advice on how to care for my oral health, but never judge! When I have had to have work done, its quick and professional. Care is taken to make sure i am comfortable and not anxious about the process. My whole family now goes to this office and we all feel the same. Literally the best dental office I've ever been to. The office staff were easy to contact (they offer email-based scheduling!) and very helpful. The actual Hygienist I saw, Maureen, did what might have been the best cleaning I've ever had and still never poked my gums or even made that awful scraping noise on my teeth! The dentist was very approachable and obviously cared about his work. He knew at a glance what my fillings were made of and went through my x-ray carefully to make sure he didn't miss any signs of decay. When I brought up a particularly deep tooth groove I was concerned about, he explained both the risks it posed and why he wouldn't touch it, as well as what to do to keep it safe and what to look for. He made sure I understood what was going on in my mouth and didn't seem rushed or treat me like I was just another patient. They seem to pride themselves on quality equipment without making a big deal out of it. It was impressive and confidence-building that they considered things like fluoride varnish instead of a foam tray or top-of-the-line x-ray machines that reduce radiation exposure to be a bare minimum essential. I was a patient of Dr. Randy Raetz, for at least three years. The two main issues that I have a problem with are: his lack of professionalism and lack of training to do an efficient job. Dr. Raetz put in two dental implants that I continue to have problems with. The last year and a half has been an inconvenience and I don't feel that I was treated with respect as a customer. The implants kept coming out of my mouth or loosening, which meant that I would have to return to his office to have them fixed. I was in his office at least 3 to 5 times a month to have the faulty implants fixed. There was even a time when he was facetious and saying "you have got to be shitting me" I tried to go to another dental office, to have the problem addressed, but they felt that Dr. Raetz should be the one to fix the problem. However, one of the new doctors took x-rays, and discovered that the abutments and the implants were the WRONG ones. He did send the x-rays to Dr. Raetz, who decided to order new implants, which look horrible, because they are much smaller than my natural teeth. The implants are not the same size and height as my natural teeth, and this is a problem because I have trouble chewing. I have brought this problem to the attention of Dr. Raetz, but he continues to blow me off. He has not returned any of my phone calls, and will say that he had forgotten, but he did not forget to get paid. He has not tried to make this right. His lack of professionalism is something that I did not expect. I have never written a letter like this, but my disappointment, frustration and anger regarding the way I was treated has compelled me to do so. read more

Similar to Glenda's experience, Dr. Raetz was extremely unprofessional. Dr. Raetz even went as far as calling me a liar to my face when I inquired about issues as a result from faulty procedures. It was then that I went to two other dentists to find out that I in fact had more problems with almost all of the procedures that he had performed. I informed him of these additional issues, and was told that I was making it up, and it must have been something that I did to myself. He also went as far as insinuating that the other dentists were trying to be fraudulent. Do your research, you'll find some questionable conduct in his past... Steer clear! read more

Dr. Raetz and his entire office staff are a 10+++. I first came to Dr. Raetz for a very bad toothache. I am extremely fearful of dentists and having had a few negative experiences, I waited until I couldn't bear the pain any longer. I found Dr. Raetz online when I looked up dentists that performed sedation dentistry. I am now a regular patient and no longer have any fear of going to the dentist. How I wish I had found Dr. Raetz years ago. His entire staff is extremely professional and are very understanding of patients experiencing anxiety and fear of their visit. During my last visit, Dr. Randy took the time to fill one of my front teeth that has had a chip in it ever since my adult teeth came in. He also filed the bottom of my two front teeth as they were rippled. Not one dentist I have ever gone to ever offered to do that for me. I no longer hide my smile.
