I usually don't write reviews but I felt inclined to make people aware of the rudeness that took place at this salon. My first experience with this Sheryl James Salon was not too bad because I really liked my hair colorist (who I believe was just a young girl working her butt off) not even one of the head stylists that had been there for years. She did a great job of answering all my questions as it was my first time there and I had expressed my previous challenges with other salons. She put me at ease with trying a new color option and I felt I could trust her judgement. The color was perfect. I wanted to know the TWO colors she mixed together so that if I wanted to do my own touch ups in between my appointments I'd be able to. Also because I had been searching long and hard for many years to try to find my perfect color and everyone seemed to make it too dark or too red and I wanted to avoid that from happening again. She assured me that the woman at the front would be able to assist with that information. She explained it's all on file for me. Unfortunately, the woman who answered the phone when I called to ask for the information was EXTREMELY rude and said she wouldn't give this information to me. She explained that many colors were mixed together to get the formula which isn't true because I literally watched the girl mix the two boxed colors together in front of me. While I was originally planning to return due to the young girls great work...I refuse to be spoken to in such a rude manner and plan to have my hair coloring needs met elsewhere. It pays to simply be nice and that was not my experience with whoever answered the phone. Unfortunate that one person can so quickly ruin a reputation. The biggest issue was not that she wouldn't tell me about the product used in my own hair but how I was spoken to which is the real problem. read more

This salon is very unprofessional and disorganized. They have cut my hair uneven multiple times and I've had to make it even with my kitchen scissors. Said they had a appointment but I waiting their for hour and when I said something about waiting they were very rude and disrepectful and the women that was suppose todo my hair didn't even know I was there for the appointment. They have nasty attitudes and treat their clients like their nobodies. The stylists need to learn how to talk to people nicely. read more

hair color wash and blow. we made appointment for the above service, and when we got there they did not have my wife down for the color,so they bounced her around trying to fit her in, the appointment was for 12 pm was not called till 12:30. when the appointment was made they quote a price and when they finished the price it was triple. we not go back there and not recommend to any one. the owners are also very aggressive and rude. I have been going to Sheryl James salon for years. even though I moved away from Long Island, whenever I am back, it's my first stop. Kristen is the best for coloring. she matches your hair perfectly and does the most amazing work. very thorough and complete. I try to time my visits to NY so that I can see her. i have very thick hair which can be challenging to dry but every time I have a blowout my hair is always perfect and completely dry, June and Sheryl have been cutting my hair for years and always listen to what I want, advise me, offer cut suggestions and cut/trim my hair perfectly. Be careful this Salon in the past 2 months has overcharged me for services twice. I have been a monthly customer for the past 3 years. Very disappointing. Got lash extensions a while ago with Brianna. Although they were what i wanted and it was done within an hour, the retention of the lashes were horrible. It took about less than a week for them to start falling out. I was spoken very nicely to and she already was talking about scheduling another appointment before i had even gone to the first one. I was very new to lashes so maybe i seemed more vulnerable to paying whatever amount of money. I paid $120 for a full set. She told me that it was $60 for refills and that refills were every 2-3 weeks. So i made an appointment for exactly 2 weeks later and since they had all fallen out, she said i would need for pay another $120 for a full set. I told her how she had said it was $60 refills every 2 weeks and that they all fell out within 1 week.. i was not going to spend $120 every 2 weeks. She gave in and charged only $60 but was not as nice as before and she didn't encourage me to book another appointment and so i never did. I then went to El Salvador to get my lashes done and they have lasted me 4 weeks now and still have a lot left. Not to mention it was only $30 (cheaper because it's a foreign country- i know, but for $120 i would expect them to last 3 weeks or more). Starting to think the poor retention is on purpose so that you are forced to come in and spend $120 every time... The overall vibes felt a little fake and like she just wanted to squeeze all the money out of my wallet. I know it's a business but sometimes the greediness is too much. read more

I had been here once before and Jackie did a really nice job so I made an appointment to return for balayage and a haircut. When I got there they did a bait and switch and told me they made an appointment for me on a day when my requested stylist wasn't even working! Then they gave me someone who I literally had to ask to slow down and she completely destroyed my hair, I walked out and it was butchered and felt like burnt straw. It cost me $250 to have another salon repair it and this salon has refused to give me any money back AND told me Jackie my originally requested stylist had no availability to fix it. If I could give zero stars I would. I went here to get hand tied extensions with Brianna. Aside from them not matching my hair at all they were installed completely incorrectly. I reached out to brianna to let her know that I was extremely unhappy with my hair and I was paying even more money at a different salon to get the extensions toned so they would match my hair better. She offered to redo them and I told her I wasn't comfortable having her redo them after how they came out the first time and I proceeded to ask for a refund for the $300 I paid to have them installed. I never received a response to that message. This pictures are ONE WEEK after having my extensions installed. DO NOT come here for hand tied extensions. read more

Today was crazy. I came in wanting a ombré baylage look where it BLENDED into my own hair color. I had Kim as my colorist and thought she understood what I wanted. I didn't want a harsh line across my head. Instead I wanted it blended and softened into my own hair (which Kristin does amazingly) unfortunate Kim didn't know or didn't understand what I was asking. While she did a great job on the cut the color was less pleasing. The application was choppy and the color was not purple as I had requested. I asked her to fix it and she started to mix the pink color again. I unfortunately didn't want her to fix what she had done so I went home (which is not that far away) Don't worry this story has a happy ending. I ask a family member what they thought of my hair and they agreed that it looked like I was wearing a brown circle hat and that the color application was pretty bad. We both went back to the salon to try to get it resolved. The owner actually came back to the salon at 7pm to fix what had happened and she re did my hair!!!! First time with a Groupon. I was very overdue for a root and highlight. I loved Faith she listened and totally delivered on what I wanted. My hair is gorgeous again. She also gave me a plan on how to keep up with it which is what I needed. Now I am no longer stressed about my hair . Highly recommend Faith extremely knowledgeable and competent. Came here for my makeup and some random girl with zero experience did it who was using her personal makeup with unwashed brushes (this was in May) and not that the month matters because we're still in a pandemic. She kept asking me what I wanted to do next? Not my suggestion on colors but literally what goes after what? Obviously there was no blending and my neck looked like it belonged to a different person. Never gotten hair done so can't comment on that but definitely skip getting your makeup don't from them. read more

SOOO BEYOND HAPPY!! I am absolutely so happy with my hair. a good friend of mine just started working there and I said I'm in the market for a new hair girl why not, I'll try her out. Today was her first day and she was being trained by Briana co owner and daughter of Sheryl. They both worked on my hair and Brianna is the sweetest woman ever. She was patient with my friend and taught her well. My hair came out amazing. I didn't want to spend too much money if I wasn't going to like the outcome so I said no to a blowout. Brianna then gave me a complimentary blow out and curls. Then I thought we were doing a half a head because that's what sam (my friend quoted me on) and she did a full head on me but only charging me for the half a head. I got a horrible haircut here. I asked for 2-3 inches off of my long hair with slight layers and a long bang by my chin. Basically a trim of my current haircut. The lady did whatever she wanted, I have these dramatic choppy layers that make my hair look way shorter. The layers are so short they hit my chin, which defeats the point of my long bang. I never ever leave bad reviews but my hair is so messed up.. I went for a perm and it did nothing but destroy my hair. The curls lasted for about an hour and then completely fell and left my hair broken and damaged. It's been a couple of months since I got it done and my hair has never been the same and all they offer me is complimentary conditioner treatments which is nice but didnt do much besides take the perm smell out of my hair. when I asked for a refund (I spent well over $100), they said no because i was informed by my stylist that the texture of my hair would be changed, but the only texture change I was informed about was curliness and thickness, which I have none. All I have is damage. They told me my hair was too straight to take the perm, but after consulting with other stylists I received a completely different response. I was very patient and understanding with them because I don't want to be a problematic customer but I still have multiple broken pieces of hair and have had to spend so much extra money at different salons to fix it. read more
