I love the jumble and assortment of stuff here, and it's much more of an adventure than going to Home Depot. I find little sink stoppers and screens for my bathroom and kitchen that I can't get anywhere else, but I always end up picking up something on a whim, like candles. They have the odd gift item stocked right beside the really functional hardware stuff. I bought my Sterno stove kit, which really comes in handy in the winter, since Church Hill almost always loses power at least two or three times during the season. Can't live without my morning mud!

While walking through the store, we were headed theough the appliances section when a woman working there asked if we needed help. I said, "We're looking for some galvanized pipe, are we headed in the right direction?" and she confirmed that, yes, we were. In the plumbing section an older gentleman asked if we needed help and I told him that I think we're almost there. He also confirmed and sure enough, it was the next aisle over. I generally like to find things myself, and if I need help, I'll ask. Up to this point, the employees were catching that vibe as well. Something I would term as "common sense." So already I'm impressed more by these employees than most stores I visit. The pipe was more expensive than I thought it would be, and the drill bits and other hardware seemed reasonably priced to me. All in all, I would say Lowe's seemed fair and competitive. At checkout, the woman watching the self-checkout registers was very kind, offering customers who were waiting to check out with her if they had a card. She also noticed that my hand were dirty from handling the steel pipe and offered paper towels and hand sanitizer to me so that I could clean my hands. It worked nicely and she even gave me another paper towel to dry them with. The parking lot was gross, and I attributed that to the shoppers and the litter they discard so nonchalantly. The inside of the store was pretty clean overall for a hardware store. There were a few items missing here and there, but I found everything that I needed during our visit. I didn't see anything that gave me the impression of a one and a half star rating.

She went to Lowes and Home Depot and both failed to match the color. I took a small drawer to Duron, they scanned it and mixed it perfectly....a match. I was able to walk right up to the counter, order my exact color and 10 minutes later was done and out the door. Everyone was extremely helpful and almost seem to fight (jokingly) over who would help us. However, Marcus was the associate who dealt with us directly. He was there when needed but not overbearing. I also found him extremely informative. He even took the time to explain the paint making/mixing process to my oldest. I look forward to working with them as our new house progresses.
