After reading my Consumer Reports, I bought some highly rated Behr paint and painted my bedroom…read more It never dried. The walls stayed tacky, and still are after several months. Then a new version of Consumer Reports came out and said Behr reformulated. Sooo....I vowed not to use it again, but whaddyaknow I had to paint the hallway. This time the paint was like chalk after it dried. I pretty much figured I'd forgotten how to paint. I used to paint several times a year, but it had been awhile. Soo....I headed over to Sherwin Williams and bought a $40 can of paint. Seemed kinda pricey but holy cow what a difference. Only needed one coat and it went on so smooth. The difference was night and day. I also picked up a new paint roller and brushes, the prices on the tools were cheaper then Home Stupid Depot and much better quality. Recently, I had to paint again, and they had paint on sale. The staff was knowledgeable about what primer to put over the previous application and what paint would be best for a top coat. Now, you won't be able to buy a washing machine at the same time, but isn't that the point? Buying paint from a paint store....friggin ingenious.

Paid in full. 300.00. After 15 days and no call I decided to just stop in and check. It was in fact there, they sent the wrong paper (not the stores fault). They checked and said it would be shipped express. Waited another 10 days no call. Still not in. Waited another 10 and stopped in while I was in the area. Still not in!!! Got home (30 minutes away) and no sooner did I get home then they called saying it had "just come in" suspicions but whatever. Got paper hung in all measured areas (that I gave dimensions for) and was left with 3 entire double rolls (about 100.00). Went back today at about 11:40 am and tried to return them. Here's where it gets "good". The guy behind the counter was disinterested and said "there is a restocking fee of 40%. Wasn't told this when he over ordered my dimensions but ok needed to buy more paint supplies anyway. After much dicking around on the computer was told to leave the paper with them and he would call me later. I asked for some kind of proof that I was leaving the rolls there and he was quite miffed about this. So I just decided to leave with my rolls and never return! We also were interested in buying a collapsible ladder when we asked how much they were the "man" that was waiting on us said 200-300 I guess. He was probably one of the rudest employees I have seen. Terrible company rep.!!! Had they told me I couldn't return the unused rolls it wouldn't have been a big deal but to have had the trouble of waiting over a month for errors and no apology, no sympathy about it on top of the rudeness it's just to much. Really to bad because I just bought a new home and would've been spending THOUSANDS in there. Nope, guess Lowe's or Home Depot will get my money instead.

I wanted to give Benjamin Moore paint a try, and they were the closest store that sold it. I ended up needing to bring my 1 1/2-year-old son along, which is NOT ideal, as a paint store really isn't a great place for a baby (even one closely watched by mom). But everyone there was SO friendly and helpful, both to me and my son! First, after looking at a swatch for the color I -thought- I wanted, I realized it was more orange-toned than I liked. One of the ladies at the store immediately asked if I needed help, and when i described what I wanted, she pulled out numerous swatches and told me which ones in the color range I wanted were the most popular. After I settled on a color, they immediately mixed it up. The guy at the mixing counter was great, showing my little boy how they tinted the paint and put it in the mixer, then showing him the finished color. Afterward, they put my paint cans in a box so they wouldn't roll around in my car, and one of the employees carried them out for me! I won't say this is the cheapest paint I've ever bought -- not by a long shot -- but the experience was definitely much more pleasant than at any mega-home-improvement store I've bought paint at! We'll certainly be back.

Great paint lasts, holds up and doesn't fade. Douglas and Sons ONLY sells great paint. My family and I have been shopping at Douglas and Sons for years and years. There prices are a little higher than at other places, but I only get good products, and I also get fantastic services. For instance, when I was remodeling my daughters bedroom, and we took down the wallpaper, and washed the walls and started painting... after about 20 minutes my paint started to bubble! I was stunned, shocked and nervous, I had never seen such a thing. I knew when I called Douglas and Sons they would know... and after talking to one of their highly talented employees they suspected there was a tiny bit of wallpapers blue in the low spots on my plastered walls. When I went in to see what could be done the owner saw me, asked about my problem, showed real concern, and let me know he had called the manufacturer just to verify there opinion. My solution? easy... a little primer first... and my problem went away. The color looks amazing and my girls are super happy. I went to Tim as I heard that he would be able to give me a higher quality paint and most likely be able to color match. It was not a perfect color match but very close and closer than what any other shop could do. Unfortunately there is no way to match Behr's white perfectly. Tim has been spectacular to work with in numerous ways. First he goes above and beyond. He offered for me to use his paint sprayer which was better than mine. He mixed up paint and told me if I'm not satisfied with the color I did not have to pay for it. Tim is also incredibly knowledgeable of paint, any substrate it can be applied to, application, and nearly any subject. The project that I have been working on is my staircase and he even suggested using hot glue to install my iron balusters such that if any of them are ever damaged or I simply want to change the balusters I can. I never thought of that as an option. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find a high level of customer service and knowledge with any business anymore. He is a 35 minute drive from me and if I have any question about anything I even suspect he might know the answer to I call Tim or his partner and they usually have an answer and are excited to help! They carry the best brands: Benjamin Moore, Graham and California Frescoat. If you follow the coverage of paint in Consumer Reports, California was the highest rated brand last year, and Bennie Moore is always close to the top. They can make your paint job last 10 years, rather than the standard five to seven years. The staff knows a lot about paint. They can tell you what kind to use and how to put it on. They'll warn you about problems you might encounter with the preparation and painting, if you can manage to get to the store when they are not too busy and talk to them about your project. They have a great selection of tools and supplies, and everything is well organized. I never end up wandering around wishing I could find the right thing, which does happen at Lowe's. Yes, the paint sells for $30 to $65 and per gallon, but that's what real paint costs. You can get paint for as little as $16 per gallon at Lowe's, but I wouldn't use their paint outdoors; indoors it can probably hold because it doesn't have to stand up to the weather. Anderson's also has a store on Stadium Boulevard, north of Stadium and Liberty, and that's the store I've been using since they closed the downtown store. But I have been into the Washtenaw store a couple of times and the staff is every bit as good as the other store. They did a good job putting together orders for different kinds of paint, including a couple of tough custom matches.
