With some family scheduled to come to town in a week, my wife and I decided to touch up a few spots of chipped paint in our kitchen over the weekend. Our house was purchased a few years ago and the previous owners had left us extra gallons of the different paints used throughout the house in a shelf in the garage. The kitchen cabinets had been painted a light grey color and the extra "kitchen cabinet" paint in the garage didn't look too good, so I snapped a picture of the lid/barcode and headed over to Sherwin-Williams to grab a replacement. Tyler assisted in replacing the paint can by scanning the barcode. Upon applying the paint at home about an hour later, the new paint color was drastically darker than the existing cabinet grey. We allowed it some time to dry while we hung by the pool. However, a few hours later, the paint hadn't dried any lighter and there was a considerable difference in tones. I grabbed the new can and a drawer and headed back to the shop. Tyler happily scanned the drawer with the color device. It was way off! Tyler used the new, scanned info to make a replacement can for us. Took only a few minutes and he was very helpful & professional throughout. The second can color matched perfect and we were able to complete the small touch ups as needed. Kudos to Tyler and his awesome customer service! read more

This is a new location, just opened in La Mesa where the Firestone Tire store was previously located (and 20 years ago a gas station existed here.). I was glad to see a business finally open because it sat empty for a long time after the Firestone closed. I stopped in just to check it out the other day and had a look around. The sales people were very attentive. This store wasn't as big as some paint stores I've been in but they seem to have quite a selection. I didn't need anything at the time so I just walked around and asked a few questions. I was also curious if they had any merchandise that might be useful to someone into crafts such as tole painting etc. I didn't see anything in that category but if I ever want to paint a room I would certainly consider coming back to buy the supplies at this convenient location. I think the store will be a welcome addition to the La Mesa area. read more

Review based on corporate standard, not the quality of their products. Very disappointed with the La Mesa Sherwin Williams store today. I needed some specific items at the store and went to yelp to make sure the store was open, and it was according to the hours listed. It is a Saturday, 20 minutes before closing and the doors were locked, lights were on, even the open sign was still illuminated, but Unfortunately I will not be able to get the items that I need for my painter and have everything ready for him tomorrow morning. My review is based on the corporate standard, I expect a mom-and-pop shop to close 20 to 30 minutes early maybe more, but not Sherwin Williams, Dunn Edwards, or Home Depot. So when I need a specific item, and I need it fast for a job, I want to choose a company that I can count on to be open when they say they are open. Not saying I wont be back, but I will think twice. read more

I'm just trying to order your overpriced paint, why do you need my first Borns ssn? I'll take your paint samples and get the color done at Home Depot. Beware - Bad color mixes/matching. Turns out the the "same color" (by S-W number and name) is quite DIFFERENT depending on whether you get quarts or gallons. S-W staff at store just recently volunteered that information after we had our entire house painted inside. We chose colors based on chips and quart tester samples. We made our choices based on those samples. Once completed we bought quarts of paint for touch-ups. Had a heck of a time understanding why it looked so different from what the contractor applied (using gallon/5 gal sizes for job). Now it all makes sense. Note that this seems to apply to medium to darker colors; whites and light grays seem to match well. The quart colors are truer to the color chips and testers than the gallons. Richer colors in the quarts vs the gallons. Really bad; who paints whole house with quarts??? And, who buys gallons for touch-ups. Doomed either way. Paint stores have been mixing paint colors at the retail sites with absolute color consistency regardless of size containers for well over 30 years. How can S-W not be able to get this right??? We should have been warned from the first visit last fall when we were getting our testers. I find it a completely disrespectful and negligent business that would leave us in the dark. By the way, they told our contractor who was buying some additional paint, not us. Retail customers don't count? read more

If I could give this business a minus score, I would. I ordered wallpaper 24 Nov 2021, which I returned unopened on 20 Dec 2021 for a refund. I received a partial refund on 31 Jan 2022. This after calling three times and visiting the store once. Was told they were waiting on a"return label" from the wallpaper company. This was told to me 3 times-until I talked to the Manager in person on 30 Jan2022. Then, suddenly, on 31 Jan, I received a refund minus a restocking fee, which was never revealed to me until my exchange with the Mgr. I had in the meantime, on 22 Dec, made another order . This order was never submitted for filling!! I found that out on 31 Jan. ,over a month after placing the order. Then was also informed that 2 of my choices were "discontinued". I wasted a total of almost 2 months with this company and wound up with nothing but a "restocking" charge. Take a hint from me, do not do business with this company!! read more

We are basically novice-level home improvers, and we went in here because we heard Sherwin Williams was the best. There was literally no one there. We kind of thought that since it was a whole brick and mortar shop devoted to paint that someone would be there to advise us on gloss level, etc., but not so. The one girl behind the counter was chatting with a guy who appeared to be a regular the entire time we were there, plus we had to wait 10 minutes while they finished their conversation to be rung up. I'm not writing this review based on a one time experience but a pattern based on 3 interactions. The first time we visited this store there was an employee in the color chip area. He was polite at first but once we had questions he was so dismissive, and completely ignored us, continuing to fill the color chips. We grabbed some paint chips and left. A couple days later, we hadn't quite settled on a paint color yet and learned about the Color Snap Visualizer app, so we downloaded it, but couldn't get it to work. So we gave a call and the employee we talked with struggled with it as well, took our number, and said someone would call us back. By the next day, after we hadn't heard back, we decided to visit again. We were relieved to see that the parking lot was empty as we hoped for some assistance. Well, you can probably tell where this is going... We were in the color chip area for 5 minutes without any recognition from the staff when we asked for help with the app. The employee said that we shouldn't use the app because the colors aren't true and that our best bet would be to buy several test pints or schedule a color consultation (which is $95). While I agree that's probably the best route to take, I wanted to see how a combination of 3 colors would work which is why I wanted to use the app. Feeling like this was going nowhere, I approached another employee who said she was going on lunch. My frustration probably showed at this point so I just went back to the color chip area and tried to match a picture that had one if the colors I was hoping to find. This employee came over and said she could give us a couple of minutes so we explained that we were trying to find a color and she immediately suggested the $95 color consultation as well. That seems like a huge up sell to me! Now, I'm not suggesting that everyone who works at a paint store be a color expert, but I'm frankly insulted that I was encouraged to spend money before I had even decided on paint. I waited to write this review but the more I thought of it, I needed to share my experience with others. I started using Sherwin Williams paint when painting a rental I was remodeling. I used a professional painter who learned on custom homes and had jobs in La Jolla. I bought the paints for him. I bought the best that Sherwin Williams has, Emerald, for both exterior and interior. He loved using the paint and commented on it several times as I had him do the second house I was remodeling. The first house we were matching a color to the exterior garage door which wasn't white and the trim was in dark brown. The gal was very patient with us in getting it right. She also gave us good advice. I've used the Miramar, Mira Mesa, San Diego and La Mesa stores and have no complaints in the service I've gotten. I learned that certain ones have more of an aptitude for their job and more experience working with the products. Now my friends son has taken our advice and is going to the La Mesa store to get Sherwin Williams paint for the house he is remodeling. Oh, and even my handyman is following up on jobs he is working on and enjoys using the Sherwin Williams paints we provide for him. A good color can create a mood or give a house a glow that others notice and like. read more
