One of the the things that comes with homeownership is you will have to paint something eventually. After years of trying different paints, and since Frazee was sold to Standard Brands, I heard good things about this place from a handyman/plumber friend I knew. He wasn't the best at his trade but he did know the difference in quality paints. Undoubtedly this brand is the best paint on the market I've tried. Frazee was very good too, now non-existent. (I even went to Standard Brands to buy some of the old Frazee paints till they were gone) So, I'm really satisfied with this paint. Goes on thin but has very good coverage. Usually do 2 coats, then touch ups after. You will spend about $45 bucks a gallon for interior paint but to me worth every penny. I've tried Behr and only like a couple finishes. And not really cheaper and goes on thicker. Which I don't like. That's what they sell at Home Depot. I did have an issue one time where my quart of touch up did not match the original, and showed them photos of the difference on my 3 walls. They gladly gave me a free full gallon off my original color! That right there sold me for life. read more

We used the color consultation at the La Mesa location and found it to be extremely helpful for our large exterior home repaint. Itzel Vera was very informative and educated us on the pro's & cons of various color combinations without swaying us from our original Visio. She provided us some visual renders of our home. Without the renders it was hard to imagine the drastic changes we were trying to go for. Our hired painter got the exact DE paints and it all worked out perfectly. Shout out to Irais Estrada who was my color advisor! My painting contractor picked Dunn-Edwards for the exterior of my home, and I came in with just a few vague color ideas. With patience, careful listening, and a savvy sense of what might work with what, Irais got me to an unusual and yet somewhat subtle three-color combo that has turned out great. Based on a photo of my actual house, she created renderings that were super helpful in refining my choices. And we worked together, with me picking out different possibilities and her suggesting even better ones, based on her knowledge of all the paint color options that Dunn-Edwards offers. She really seemed to care about the outcome pleasing me, which it does. And all of this was free of charge. Two miserably experiences in this store the past couple of months. Two months ago the sale rep seems annoyed when I asked a basic primer question. Today, the larger Hispanic female sale rep (no name tag, or name on receipt) mumble something to me as she was walking away. I informed her at the counter that I didn't hear a single thing she had said because I have bad hearing. That's seemed to really set her off, afterwards her attitude, demeanor and customer services was atrocious. I would have walked out at that moment but I was finishing-up my bathroom remod and ran out of paint. I purchased my first gallon here during my first trip and returned for the color match. Next time I'll round the corner and try out Sherman-Williams paint store or my neighborhood HD. I can't believe the sales reps treat their customers this way when there is so many other paint stores. I'm a 60 year old retired combat vet with hearing loss. I don't use a hearing aid because I usually hear fine when someone speak-ups and is facing me. I think it's very bad manners to turn your back on someone while speaking especially when mumbling and walking away. Hope this helps. read more

I have been in a lot of paint stores, in my life but I can joyfully say I had the best time ever in this store. I had a employee help me named Tianna she is new in the store. I was greeted like i was family, I felt immediately comfortable . I had quite a few Items on my list, was unsure about a few items, as well. Tianna took me around the store. I was able to ask questions and she was able to answer them. YAY for me! So grateful. I enjoyed the noise around the paint store, I think the staff really enjoy working here. A lot of woman running this paint store love it. Did I mention the energy and enthusiasm this girl has !!!! We've never used Dunn-Edwards paint before; but our remodel subcontractor says he uses nothing else. We went to the store next to Grossmont Center. My wife is a very visual person. Color matching to what exists in each room was critical to her. We are so glad to have worked with the store's "colorist" Itzel. She was able to look at the samples we brought, and come up with perfect matches and blends. What's more is that one's taste can vary, so she offered second and third choices. By interviewing us, sometimes she'd then raise her second or third choice to first choice. We were very impressed with Itzel. She made us believers in Dunn-Edwards!!!!! read more

Weird. So dimly lit that you can't tell it's open unless 4' away. How they think we can view at color swatches, I don't know. Youngsters.

I've been to this location 3 or 4 times and have always had a great experience. The employees have always been very personable and friendly and have gone out of their way to help. The first time I went there was because my homeowners' association erroneously told me the paint I needed was a Dunn-Edwards paint. But when I named the color, the Dunn-Edwards employee knew right away which company that made that paint. He also told me that they could make that color for me if I didn't want to drive to yet another shop. I was impressed by his knowledge and helpfulness, and opted to buy the paint there. It was great, 100% acrylic exterior paint with no fumes. I'm sensitive to fumes and I had no problem at all handling this paint. Today I went back for paint and supplies for an interior paint job. Great, helpful service as always. The employee was very knowledgeable on everything for which I asked for suggestions or advice, and he insisted on carrying all of the items for me as I was picking them out. I got a great price for 5 gallons of low-odor paint and all the supplies. I can't wait to spiff up this 14-17 year old paint job with some fresh new color. read more

I have this used Dunn Edwards store for two painting projects. Both times I have used their color coordinators for help with selecting colors. I don't have the confidence to choose the correct colors. Both designers are extremely patient and helpful. They listen carefully and provide a variety of options. They can even import a picture of your project and insert the new color. This was especially helpful on the outside of my house. It is because of these individuals that I purchase paint here. read more

Don't ever plan on a quick trip even to buy a paint brush. There is 0 sense of urgency at this store. Everyone is nice, but chatting it more important than getting customers in and out. The balance is off. read more
