I went into Armstrong's to look for a ceramic pot. I found some cacti and decided to make my own arrangement. They had a nice variety of plants. I didn't find any pots that I liked. I am going back to get some more plants. They are a little higher priced then the other local nursery, but have more of a variety. Service is friendly nobody goes out of their way to ask if you need help. Plants are healthier then Home Depot. I just bought three pothos that were on sale & they are beautiful. I ordered the bundle where someone was to transplant one of them & didn't. They missed my order completely on Saturday, but I was in no hurry. read more

I love this Armstrong Garden Center. It is so well stocked and every staff member that I've encountered has been super friendly and helpful. I usually swing by there to pick up a wreath and garland every year for Christmas but I found out through their email announcement this year that I could register for the Make and Take: A Foraged Wreath workshop. I love the Armstrong Nursery on Main St in El Cajon. I've been working on a project planting an area that is 14' by 22'. I stopped in at Armstrong about a month ago and with the help of the amazing staff picked out a bunch of salvia in different types. I've been back several times to browse as well as purchase a few more plants. Out of all the plants I have purchased only one didn't make it. This morning I dug it up and took back for a replacement. This was my first time to Armstrong Garden Center and I was not disappointed. I was looking for aquatic plants for my new pond and they had what's I was looking for and then some. I was helped immediately ( I didn't get his name, tall blonde kid) and showed me what I was looking for. He told me to also be mindful of the water hyacinth, as it's an invasive species, and to make sure to responsibly dispose of anything extra that grows. Amazing choice of plants and great service. I don't know what's going on with the store lately . The succulents are overwatered, the plants are damaged and dying. A lot of the plants I've brought home have spiders and when inspecting them. I continue coming here because it's close to home and they vary some plants you can't find at Home Depot or Lowe's. read more

Best service I think I've ever had anywhere! Collette was SO sweet and went above and beyond to help me with a Mother's Day Delivery over the phone during COVID-19. I don't live locally, so I wanted to send my mom something nice since I can't be with her. In addition to offering to wrap the plant up pretty for Mother's Day, she even hand wrote a card for me and PERSONALLY dropped the plant off for my mom since it was close to her house. The store is often out of stock of basic supplies like soil. Additionally after advertising at one price I went in to pick up Dr. Earth Organic potting Soil and the price jumped from $5.99 to 12.99. I understand cost have gone up but they should have honored the price. Additionally, while I was checking them out one day there was some kind of rally in the parking lot for some "protector" group and I could hear an employee talking to the people checking out next to me going on about how they are protecting the community from BLM etc. and it felt like it was intentionally loud so that I could over hear. The people checking out were visually uncomfortable. I just rolled my eyes and kept upon my business and haven't been back since. read more

I went to thiS store yesterday looking for a specific bark and moss. A nice woman named Jana offered me help before I even asked. She found me exactly what I needed and made sure I didn't need anything else. She wasn't pushy at all, just genuinely helpful. I appreciated that she used my name when she said goodbye to me, pretty rare to have anyone at a store treat you so kindly these days. I'll definitely be going back for more bark in the future! I used Armstong Garden Centers for my table centerpieces at my wedding in 2016 and I'm super happy I did. My husband and I were not looking for fancy centerpieces since our wedding was on the county themed side and fancy isn't us. I saw the flower bucket/tubs and fell in love and thought that would be an easy task, since we did all the setup ourselves (friends including). I ordered 20 flower buckets about 2 months before our wedding and picked them up 3 days before. They were perfect, exactly what we wanted AND anyone who wanted one after the wedding, was able to take one with them and have potted flowers that lasted awhile. Bought a house and tore out most of the old landscaping (horrible decisions) and I'm in the process of replanting and landscaping how I want. Here it is spring, planting season and I'm stuck at home. So I decided to look up Armstrong Nursery and lo and behold I can order my veggie plants online. After I ordered my plants, I was contacted by them to confirm my order, he actually gave me some better deals they had (they even had my beloved tomatillos) , I paid by credit card and within an hour my order was ready. I drove up to the store, gave them my name and they put the plants in my trunk. The plants were all healthy and strong. I miss gardening and now I have a truckload of veggie plants to work with. This store is one of my favorite places to visit. The staff is always friendly and the plants are in good condition. During this season of sheltering at home I thought their online service worked very well. I placed my order online and a nice employee called me the next day and told me my order was ready. I picked up my plants the next day and they were excellent and I am very picky in that regard. There was very minimal contact with anyone else so I felt very secure health wise. It's also a great piece of mind to know that they guarantee all their trees. All the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly but my favorite employee is Ed. I purchased a groupon for $50 worth of merchandise at Armstrong for $25. That's what brought me in, I normally purchase my plants and gardening supplies from Home Depot or Lowes. Armstrong had a decent selection of flowers, trees, succulents, and other plants. Most of them were very healthy and seemed hardy. Most of the plants were over priced, and without the groupon, I would not have paid full price for many of the more mature plants. Garden decorations and pots were also very pricey, ceramic lizards i bought in Mexico for $5.00 were $35.00 at Armstrong. Service over all was pretty good at checkout, the guy in the nursery with the plants wasn't so friendly or helpful. The plants that I purchased are doing well. I don't think I would return but like Warren said, It's a great alternative if you don't like the big box stores. read more
