Love this place and the customer service…read more You can order and pick up same or next day, take samples home, get expert advice, have an incredible selection as well as color matching. Not sure what colors? They have in house consultations and in home consults available (limited availability). All the products you need, the advice you need, and all questions answered no matter how silly they sound out loud. And I have never once been made to feel it was an off base question. Perfect example of how customer service should be and how others should strive to replicate Value - tremendous considering the work and time saved when the correct products are used. Expert advice available for which product is best for your needs (I prefer the emerald line for interior)

The staff is very friendly and helpful! They don't mind pricing out every option for the many different levels of paint products they sell! We also love that they have complimentary coffee and tea! The Sherwin-Williams paint selection is absolutely amazing! There are so many great color options and some many different levels of paint to choose from! Whole Wheat (SW 6121) Mega Greige (SW 7031) are two of our favorites! We have also used their paint to create a movie theater screen wall and it works perfectly for a screen projector! They often run sales where you can save 30 percent off!

I found them because I needed to go to Acme locksmiths (acme is a super weird ancient business name.) I had good experiences with Acme OTR https://www.yelp.com/biz/acme-lock-woods-hardware-cincinnati-5. This Acme has their own free parking. Acme is across the street from Landwehr, or I would never have found it, They have Christmas year around, toys, board games. Included are yard ornaments. It's really not what most people would think of a hardware store, really doesn't appear to have a good collection of hardware, and the staff, usually one person, is not busy. It's much better as a film set for a spooky weird or quirky cute Tim Burton movie. It would also be a goldmine for set decorators! It could be an alternate toy shopping experience for children, so different from big box and artisanal children stores. I enjoy hardware stores. The old Aufdenkampe Hardware was counter service like Portland's Winks Hardware. Hyde Park Lumber also had great service, lumber and nails. That's my expectation. Product knowledge. Sadly product knowledge has been supplanted by clueless megas importing low quality, Lowes, Home Depot and Menards, along with strugglers Ace and Best; they all have bland upstream supply chains. One fond memory was visiting my neighborhood hardware in another city searching for a hand citrus juicer. They said "I think we have those." They found a glass one in the basement and they charged the original cost. $.88. Honest. I still have it. Another time I had to find a hardware store in Eldoret, Kenya for work gloves and got the owner's observations on the sociology of the country. This is an interesting neighborhood. See Landwehrs before it passes to development. And buy something there! More: http://www.rcnky.com/articles/2015/05/03/decades-family-business-has-seen-ups-downs-downtown-covington

Landwehrs is a piece of Americana that I worry (seriously worry) will fall by the wayside--a traditional Hardware, paint and toy store like your grandparents took your mom and dad to--you get errands done, and pick up a model train or airplane because they were so good while there. The old storefront is jam packed with items--long sweeping hardwood floors and original shelving from the turn of the century provide room for stock all the way to the top of the 13 foot ceilings. And the stuff!!!! Amazing things--twin zinc sinks for basement or potting shed use. General hardware, electrical and other items, but Landwehrs has "green living" items, too--though I'm pretty sure they simply fall under the term "common sense items". I bought my canning equipment here a few years back--they were the only place in a 30 mile radius that had any. I go back here for jars and anything else I might need for canning. I've been told by a machinist that Landwehr's has parts that he larger hardware stores don't stock anymore. The owner is SO very helpful, and I never leave empty handed. There is ALWAYS something I need, even if it's not what I walked in for. Another treasure for the City of Covington. Sure, these folks could take a bus to Newport Shopping Center to Kmart, but why would they? He's got everything they want, right there. At Christmas, they have all the really cool old Christmas Decorations our parents put out when we were small, for sale right out front. Did my heart good to see those decorations all lit up with the snow just before Christmas. I even bought a Rudolph last year because, well, having a little kid makes you nostalgic.

The previous homeowners left all the paint they used for our home. Thankfully the color names were on the top bucket and we were able to purchase them at the store. Will assisted us and he was very patient answering all our questions and helpful. We had to run back home and get the type of paint and was able to call it in so when we got there, it was ready. Their product is quality and last a long time. I love the color. Also, they were able to put our purchase in their data base so next time if we forgot the name of the paint, it's already in their system. Besides paint, they sell accessories from paint brushes, rollers, tape and everything you need to paint your rooms/house. I know we will be back. We are thinking painting my office and bedroom which means we will need another gallon. Definitely a satisfied customer.

Will, the assistant manager, helped us out big time with everything we needed and was very informative. It took us an extra trip to make sure we had the right color, but we were able to call it in, so our paint was ready when we got back to the store. Our paint was versatile gray in the Emerald brand and has a limited lifetime guarantee. I think we definitely got what we paid for and then some. You can tell it's high quality paint. Plus Will saved our color under our profile so we could order easily in the future. We'll definitely be going back before our next paint job.

Family owned, Minges is like travelling back to the time when I'd go to the feedstore with my dad. Housed in a mid-19th century stone foundation barn, the store is stocked with all your gardening, farming and pet necessities. Early in the season for this trip over the weekend, I bought a flat of pansies and violas, like I do each spring, and some seed potatoes (Irish Cobbler). They are far cheaper than any Lowe's or Home Depot at $1.78 per 3 pack of annuals, and far better quality. There is a resident mouser, always willing to greet customers at the counter, and the cool stone room, a respite in the humid days of summer, houses a good selection of high quality pet food, bulk dog treats, a wide variety of bird seeds and feeders, garden seed in bulk, seed potatoes, onion sets and other garden treasures displayed in original wooden bins. Outside, you'll find trellises, tomato cages, cement yard ornaments and bird baths, too. When I find a space that needs a tree or a perennial bush, like an oak leaf hydrangea, I trust Minges because they offer a year guarantee on anything they sell. The prices are in line with any other garden supply store and big box home chain, but to my knowledge, I've never been given a guarantee by those places. Not that it matters, I've never needed it--each tree and shrub I've purchased from Minges always exceeds my expectations. Additionally, they have a nice little walk back by a log cabin and a set of barns that houses some farm animals and even a domesticated deer for the kiddo's. Mine was asleep, otherwise we would have walked through, it was such a lovely day!
