I had dinner here while on a business trip. The food was delicious, exceeding expectations by a long way. Palak Naan was fresh, hot, and tasty. Not as much spinach as I expected, but fine. I ordered the Chicken Biryani "medium spicy" and it was nice: enough chili to add some nice heat but not overpowering. Flavor was delicious! And it was more than I could eat on my own. Ambiance is nice: soft music on theme for the cuisine, simple but warm decor. I was there for an early dinner, so I don't know how busy or noisy they get. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Friendly service, good food. Will come back, but probably sit outside. They serve a sizzling hot dish that sounds like fajitas and the oily smoke from it makes me cough. My husband and I traveled India and Nepal for a month and the thing about travel is, it's a blessing and a curse. I'm talking mainly about the food because once we tasted REAL Indian and Nepalese food, everything else in the States tastes subpar. There are other restaurants we frequent in Boulder, whose names I will not mention, but they don't come close to the authenticity of Sherpa Kitchen. Spices are layered, plentiful, and balanced. The portions are generous and you can tell that love is put into each dish. We've ordered from here 3 times this week, one occasion so we could share with all our friends. If you are not a fan of this place, you might not be able to appreciate what true Indian/Nepali food supposed to taste like. My husband loves the Rogan josh, and I love the vegetable biryani, and the samosas are a nice way to start the meal. Delicious food, and kind and efficient service! Sherpa Kitchen as a nice Indian vibe and as soon as you walk in you get hit with the incredible fragrance of Indian spices. I took my daughter here for her first Indian food experience and she really enjoyed it. They have a lunch special which includes a few of the Indian dishes and is a nice price of around 11 bucks. So a really great deal for a quality Indian meal. We shared butter chicken, chicken curry, fried rice, lentils, and we ended the meal with a nice rice pudding. Overall a super experience for my daughter and I would go again. read more

This restaurant is SO good, and is SO much better than its competitors that I have tried to figure out the reasons why... Do they use more salt, butter or cream? I wish I knew. Whatever it is, this restaurant is a GEM, ideal for takeout and leftovers, perfect comfort food. Don't be put off by the location as the inside is warm and inviting. I personally recommend the Malai Kofta (make sure dip your naan in that incredible sauce!), the chicken Mahkani, any Saag dish, and the garlic naan. read more

For multiple reasons I haven't had Indian or Nepalese food in over a year and a half. Traveling to Boulder I remembered there are good places in town...and this was my first time at Sherpa Kitchen....it was excellent. I was so glad I drove down the mountain for this meal. I had a Thali plate (Vegetarian). With a Mango Lassi for drink. It was all so good. Plenty of food (I have a while other meal to take back) and Naan. I got a level 3 (1-5 is their ordering system for heat) and it was plenty spicy! I'm a wimp (but love spicy too, it's a struggle!) So they will not shy away or patronize you about the heat and I appreciate that. Next time I'd prly get a 2 and see how I do with that. The most important thing aside from intricately & well spiced food was the generous portions as well as the friendly and excellent service. It was mostly empty (late dinner /Sunday/rainy night) but they seemed to be doing a good take out business. The dinning room is very pleasant and pretty decor and I wish I could eat there every day on my trip. Might try to come back for one more meal. I'm from L.A., and have plenty of excellent options there. But like I said, it's been a while and this was such a totally perfect choice. My pics weren't great...but I was so excited I dug in and then thought how everything was SO tasty!! and so I took some pics. Also....I thought the rice pudding was excellent- straightforward but fresh, light, and not crazy sweet. Mango Lassi was like drinking a cool Mango!!! It was wonderful. I thought of all the people I wish I could bring here and none of them live in town, or are traveling w/ me now. Oh my goodness. Could this possibly be the best South Asian food I have eaten in Colorado?? My husband popped in for lunch (the restaurant was empty and, as of Jan 15, '21, CO dining is around 25% capacity). The lunch specials are fantastic and SUCH a good bang for your buck. You can choose between a 2 or 3 entree special (8.99 or 12.99), either regular or vegetarian. We split dishes to try as much as possible. First let me tell you about their samosas. Their iteration of these classic Indian appetizers were a literal dream. They're stuffed with spiced potatoes and vegetables, in a deliciously fluffy crust. It was the densest, most delicious savory cloud I have ever bitten into. You get a BUTTLOAD of naan with each lunch special. We probably got like 6-8 pieces for the two of us. They're just sheets of plain naan that were fluffy and PERFECT for scooping up some of the more saucy dishes. The rice was good. Essential. I have been to Indian places that flavor their naan with butter or fennel. This place didn't do that, but it was noteworthy that their rice was not dry. Bonus points for fluffy rice! Oh. They don't give enough rice for all the entrées, so you HAVE to save some of your naan for the end. The most stand out dishes were: -the saag paneer. Their saag was very unique. Not the usual gloop of green mush that ends up on your plate. Their saag was gingery and their paneer buttery and flavorful, not like rubber. You can see the individual shredded spinach leaves and pick up a lot of nuance in its flavor. - Tikka masala. So good. So creamy. A perfect meat to sauce ratio, need I say more? Lastly, their lunch specials offered kheer, which is like, a cinnamon tapioca pudding, except with rice as the starch. It was an amazing way to end the meal, and cooled off the tongue from all the spice. I haven't been to a place that offers kheer with lunch in a while, so it was a nostalgic experience for me The food is a bit spicier than expected. They give you a scale from 1 to 5. We ordered a 2, which was a shade more than a slight kick. You'll have to try the rest! So good. If I lived in the area, I would SO try it again read more

Samosa Chaat was bland, okra delicious, eggplant dish had so much salt we needed to send it back. The replacement eggplant dish tasted totally different. Then they charged .50 for coconut milk which we didn't ask for. Not amazing service either. People were piling in, so maybe some poor ordering. read more

I specifically questioned thrice to the lady who took the order, if Veggie Momos and sauce were vegan(because it wasn't marked as vegan in menu). She confirmed yes. On top of it, she said "What vegan? You should eat everything and be healthy". I ignored, because people don't understand that being vegan is not just for dietary preference. I asked again if the momos and sauce were vegan when it was brought to table. They said "Yes". After eating one, me and my friends realized that it has paneer in it. I was so annoyed and asked again, the server didn't even care to apologize. I'm lactose intolerant and I had stomach upset the whole day and ruined my trip to boulder. If someone insists on a dietary preference/allergy, please take care of it. If you can't accommodate, please don't serve food which might turn poisonous. Tofu Saag was good. An absolute hidden gem, I visited while on a lunch break for a quick bite. It was about 1 or 2 in the afternoon. The space is well lit and the decor is lovely. The interior is more spacious than I anticipated, and it wasn't too busy. There is a parking lot out front so parking shouldn't be an issue. The food was excellent. I had the tikka masala lunch special, which came with a veggie samosa, rice, naan, and paneer as well as the title dish. All were hit and excellent. A perfect contrast to the winter weather outside. I also had the hot chai tea which arrives by the pot, and the kashmiri naan. The kashmiri naan i had never had before, and the wait staff even seemed surprised when i ordered it, but it was delicious. It is naan opened and lathered with butter and sweet date. We have been loving this food for about a decade. Every time we visit Boulder our family always makes a point of eating here however this past visit was terribly disappointing. The reason for this rating is entirely due to the service, nothing to do with the kitchen/food. Despite our positive, friendly, grateful, and considerate attitude towards the man/maybe manager and our waitress - they were both rude to the point that she didn't look at us in the eyes and neither of them cracked a smile. I believe their attitudes were due to my husband asking the manager if he could help us with some water & our drinks order as the waitress was busy serving food to other tables. I had the feeling he didn't like us asking him instead of her & that he reprimanded her in some way. On the way out when we thanked them - they both had 'smirks' on their face. In the past we have been overcharged so I am certain a few meals had been added to our bill. I did warn my brother who paid for the dinner to check the bill (which is awkward as they do not provide an itemized bill - it is just a total on a credit card machine) He did ask to check the bill (as one always should!) but he felt rushed with the manager standing over him... Always check your bill at this place. Despite this bad experience we will reserve a table again next time and give them another chance as we love the food/kitchen. read more

I wasn't able to return their call, as we have headed back home to Texas but because of their efforts of trying to fix a minor issue, I will be back here when I visit. I used to love this place right before I moved away so I always come when I visit from out of town. Said 20 min. Then we got there at 20 min. Had me sit down and said 5 more minutes. I waited almost 20 minutes inside, and I thought it would have been ready so I didn't bring my phone. The lady was nice and sweet, despite lying to me about the wait time, and I only saw her waiting on everyone. They need more help, and honestly the portion I received was unacceptable for $16 for the veg korma. Either lower the price or double the amount of food. There was plenty of rice and it was delicious. The flavors did seem a bit dull, like the korma had been made the day before. I'm pretty sure they prepared mine after I arrived, and I opened the bag and the plastic container lid was sunk in like it had been microwaved with the lid on. Also, I'm glad there was plenty of veggies but there was almost no sauce, it was mostly veggies. I like a good balance of both. They did respect my coconut allergy, and I did not have any reaction so that's great. Overall the food was decent, but I'm still Kind of disappointed in this place. I had people waiting for me in the car so it was frustrating having to have everyone waiting for my food when they told me 20 min and it was 40. Please get more help and make the food fresh or daily. Fantastic food and service! My wife and I got two different lunch specials - the chicken Tikka Masala and the more expensive vegetarian option. Both of them were delcious and well worth the price. The difference between the $9 and $11 options was that the more expensive option included daal makhani. Standout dishes from the lunch special include the amazingly fluffy and warm naan and samosa and the saag paneer. I'll say, I had been getting tired of saag paneer from other restaurants, but the stuff here rekindled my love of it; good stuff The prices on the regular menu seemed decent as well as far as Nepalese or Indian food goes. We actually ate inside - no other customers were around - and we enjoyed the decor and ambiance. All in all, this was a great spot, and we expect to come back again! Getting any food in Boulder more exotic than a burger is usually a crapshoot. Ask locals for recommendations and they direct you to some overpriced, bland, ranch-soaked travesty on Pearl Street. This place is shoved next to a subway in a strip mall that you'd never notice exists. You walk in, unsure, and are greeted by enthusiastic employees who, with concern, warn you not to go above medium spiciness with any dish, as they use authentic spices and the average Boulderite has the capsaicin sensitivity of a toddler at McDonald's. If you are lucky enough to arrive at lunchtime, you can order their lunch special, a ginormous tray loaded with samplers of at least five different dishes as well as a basket of complementary Naan, each dish more flavorful than the last. If you are a bold Boulderite and you decided to forgo the spiciness warning, you should order a mango Lassi to go with your meal. For only 3.99, you can have this thick mango smoothie goodness, topped with authentic saffron to cool your burning mouth after each orgasmic bite of Thali or Chicken Masala. By the end of the meal, you will be laden with leftovers, belly full and tastebuds more alive than they have been since you moved here from California or Texas or wherever else you escaped from.
