I don't know why it took me so long to get to Sherm's Thiunderbird. There are so many grocery stores that I thought it would just be another...but this store is huge with hard to get items. You walk into the produce section which is large. They have super fresh produce that I can't get at other stores and at great prices-like special mushrooms, baby Bok Choy and microgreens. My other favorite section is the Bulk items. They have everything! Grains, nuts, seeds, snack foods and even candy like Jelly Belly mix and individual flavors. They also have bakery section, canned goods, meat, & seafood deli meats and cheeses and frozen foods. It is clean and bright and the service is good. read more

Rude workers, especially Manager named Kim. Dirty place. Saw a mouse running across the top of the big cans in the back once. Mentioned it to an employee and his reply was he wasn't pest control. Went to one of the other managers and they didn't seem to care either. Used to LOVE shopping there, now, I barely go in. Kim the manager said that Winco doesn't take people on foodstamps or debt/credit cards, and that they only take cash. Looked up Winco, and proved she is a liar. Winco's not even in yet and she is already making up lies about them! My son and I also reported seeing cockroaches and we were called liars, even after showing a manager the bugs in the back. read more

Best store to Shop at in Roseburg, Oregon! My wife and I started a Veg/Vegan Diet and this is the only place with decent prices to find products to fit our diet plan. They always have a wide variety in their Natural Foods Department and I hope they keep growing it because we need more healthy options in our town. They also source their meat locally and that is awesome that they do that for the Douglas County Community! Their service is outstanding too very helpful employees! We ran in here kind of quick to grab a couple things for a family dinner. My mom made a v-line for what she was after while my fiance and I were stalled at the door and the fresh enormous produce on display. We eventually followed her in and found this place to be 1. Very large 2. Very clean 3. Very well stocked. From an initial glance and small sample size (probably saw about 1/4 of the store) they have about everything you could possible need and the prices are really reasonable. Made us both with they had a location in Alabama, we would be fans for sure and shop there every chance we got. I should add, on the way out they have a pretty large display of Umpqua Ice Cream (cone or dish) to choose from. We never made it back over so my gf could try. We may need to have a return to Sherm's in Roseburg so she can have a chance to try some of the best ice cream you can get. read more

I love that Sherms has so many organic items. It is the reason I shop there. However, twice now in the produce department I have bought a vegetable that was in the organic section with a Sherms organic tag under it, but when getting home found out it was not organic. Today it was foxy celery listed by Sherms as organic, but was really not. Now, I feel like I have to watch very carefully in produce to be sure the bag actually says organic. I can't trust the employees to put only organic items in the produce area. So frustrating. When I called to find out what was going on, the guy said probably a new person put it there. No apology. Lots of out-of-date products on the shelves the last time I was there. I brought an issue to the attention of the manager. She was rude and resentful. She trolled me afterwards and if I turned my back on my cart she would have her staff snatch it and put all of my groceries back on the shelf. I know that sounds petty but I don't have that kind of time to waste. I took my business elsewhere. I heard that WinCo is thinking of opening a store in Klamath Falls. one star is too many, all their scales are off and lean towards heavier than the actual weight. I went and bought food today and was blown away when I got home and I weighed all my produce and found a noticeable discrepancy, so I called the store manager and told him what I found and he told me my scale was wrong that is when I grabbed a nickle which weighs exactly 5 grams and placed it on my scale and it came to 5 grams meaning my scale is completely correct, he asked me my name I refused to give it and told him I am doing this for all the other seniors who frequent your store I am 60 years old and am fully disabled 100% service connected us army veteran, I need to shop there due to my inability to travel long distances because of my disability such as driving the long distance to Eugene etc, since there are no good food stores in Roseburg Oregon that carry quality produce and bulk goods but now I am not sure if all their scales are wrong then they are not at all a discount store and with this inflation they are (I dislike saying this) they are dishonest read more

This store is similar but not exact to Winco of Springfield, Corvallis, etc. Their prices are more reasonable, but they do take credit cards (as far as I know), which Winco strictly doesn't. They also have a nice yet relatively small natural foods section. This is the store that my mom would shop at because it wasn't pricey like Fred Meyer and she despises Walmart. I like this store too, but it can get busy, especially on weekends. read more

There are several aisles devoted to them, in fact. If you've been to other grocers in the area, you'd notice how they are mostly stocked with national brands. Sherms has those too but you'll be able to get your organic items as well. The produce is really decent and there are some terrific deals. Just the other day, they had HUGE cauliflowers for $1.88. We weighed it and it was over five pounds. Five friggin' pounds. That same day, red and/or orange bell peppers were 3 for a dollar. You'd be THRILLED to find them for three times that price in Portland. You'd shout it from the rooftops. I wouldn't but you definitely would. It's a bag your own kinda place but that don't bother me none. Plus, you can still get plastic bags so you save on buying dog poop bags to boot! But getting ice cream on the way out, a staff member (who may be employed by Umpqua, it's unclear) responded to my friend pointing at the flavor she wanted with a snarky, "I know where it is" and then gave us the stink eye the rest of our order. This is my family's favorite grocery in Roseburg. Nothing fancy, but it's clean and they have a huge inventory with low prices. They employ a lot of Roseburg High School students and they are all very helpful. Pay attention to each piece of fruit or vegetable you buy. It is not fair to compare Sherms to hipster holes selling overpriced baked goods laden with crap ingredients at four times the cost. One of the best things about living in Oregon was the scenery/forest. Next best thing was Sherms Thunderbird. I love the variety, and fresh produce from the ranches nearby. An entire natural, and organic food section. A buyer who will order anything you need and want. Oh, and a huge butcher counter. Lots of pre prepped foods. I had found a deal on a wine we all like, so as a given, as I look younger than I really am I always take my ID out to be carded automatically. I just had it in my hand and was waiting for it and Wanda said, "You need to wait, I only have two hands," she waved both of them in the air and the tone was a sarcastic, unwelcoming voice. I was in shock and looked at her. "I'm so sorry," I said but made sure her tone was unwanted. "I'm not," came her shocking reply to me! When a young person, with money, willingly provides their ID, don't make them feel badly for doing so. I'm not sure people are white trash as much as just kind of farmish down here, but who am I to argue since my colleauges have been down here for over a week longer than I have. I don't think there was anything that could be done to prep me for this wild place. Its a market right, but things just don't seem on point. I mean when you check out, you walk by a huge wall of 4-H "thank you notes" from sellers thanking "Sherms" for buying their_____(insert name of farm animal here). We had to ask. And, as I suspected, they animals are bought....and then sold in, uh, another form at this market. WOW. Oh, and I wanted one of the employee sweatshirts that said THUNDERBIRD real bad, but alas they are not for sale. So don't even think about it. read more

Setting old intolerant Portlandia snobbery aside, true this is not a Portland high brow Market of Choice nor my beloved Uwajimaya, this is southern Oregon. As local markets go, this is a fair priced market without pretentious price gauging markups to keep the "pedestrians" out. And too, Sherm's lack of decent French bread makes me long for just 15 minutes in St. Honoré Boulangerie in the Portland Pearl district. I just go elsewhere to buy it. (Sherm's so-called French bread really does suck... they have the ability to fix that but they do not even know what good French bread taste like!) Sherm's is therefore just an okay large grocery store with great Health Food and Organic Produce departments. Canned, boxed and frozen isles to delight those that shop for them. The Meat department for carnivores is also just okay. We personally eat fish and I can tell you what they call, TUNA, is Not. They Do Not have a decent selection of fish, again, go elsewhere if you value quality seafood. Do not expect Sherm's to be a Portland gourmet, multicultural market. It is not. (They do carry the common Asian and Hispanic staples) That being said, they do have better prices on everyday items so just be prepared to go to Fred Meyers or another local market for other items such as French bread, seafood and better cuts of red meats. I steer clear of asking the department workers for help; they need to be re-trained in sincere friendliness and be reminded that to even have employment & paycheck are a blessing these days. Even faked sincerity would be welcomed as opposed to the sneering and loathing attitudes I've encountered from the produce gentlemen and health food lady. The closet Market of Choice is just west off exit 192 of the I 5 in Eugene, one hour north... snobbery allowed and accepted yet sincere friendliness from ALL the employees is worth the drive. read more
