Shenandoah university was named after the great Oneida chief, whom lived 1706-1816. He was born into an Iroquois speaking tribe, but was later adopted into the Oneida of the Iroquois confederacy. A great man like no other.
Shenandoah University is a small university in Winchester, VA. I was privileged to have been here to walk around this beautiful campus on a recent Tuesday late September 2016 morning. Classes were already in session for the fall term, so it was nice to be see academia once again. Walking around the Shenandoah campus had made me think of going back to school again to pursue an advanced degree of some sort, but obviously financial resources would be required, not to mention, time required to study. Still, it was nice to walk down memory lane of collegiate life here in Virginia, even if I didn't go here for my undergraduate studies. This campus is quite nice and very much walkable from building to building. They have a main parking garage and sparse parking lots across campus for faculty and student use. The chatter of students and facility walking around campus got me excited - reminiscing about how it was in college way back when. Even the autumn mist in the air made the area that much more interesting and it made me happy that I was here.
Shenandoah university is a 4 year institution, that offers degree programs from a range of disciplines. Also on campus is a park with a large pond, as well as a museum on the west end. This institution serves many in the area of northern Virginia, northeast West Virginia, and western Maryland. Like many 4 year institutions, they offer scholarships and financial assistance programs to help qualified applicants. I was here on a brisk morning, with a certain chill in the air, to walk around the campus to shake out what residual discomfort I had after knocking off 2 marathons in 2 days in West Virginia and Maryland before coming through to Virginia. I ended up playing Pokémon Go while walking through the beautiful campus and taking photos along the way. The campus is quite beautiful and compacted for everyone's convenience. I liked the fact that the campus is walkable and you're never too far away from anywhere on campus. I did pass by the admissions office on my tour of the campus, which made me think
about applying for school again.
It would be nice to come here to study. I bet many students in the area do enjoy the college experience here at Shenandoah university. For me, the walking tour brought up a lot of fond memories about my own college experience, many that I will keep forever with me. I had a good time here and hope to be back soon, if my travels permit me to do so. My favorite part of the campus would be the path around the pond. It was cute with the fountain within the large pond. The main square with the library in the center was filled with college students talking about work and classes. The overall experience here was that of a trip down memory lane. While I didn't attend school here in northern Virginia, it was nice to be back in the academic college scene. The walk around campus was scenic and definitely a highlight of my morning there before heading north for sightseeing at two national parks for the day.
4.5 stars for the beautiful campus.
