Unlike others, we've had a terrific experience with Homes by Dickerson. Miles and Simon (PMs),…read moreRachel (Design) and Shireen (sales) were wonderful to work with. Our punch list was completely taken care of to the point of going over and above our expectations. Our house is beautiful, and we are very pleased. Having a custom home builder that worked with our design changes and incorporating them perfectly (unlike other builders) is exactly what we needed. Overall, 5+ in all areas!

We have had repeated coil failures, dangerously high indoor humidity (often above 70%), and eventually had to replace the entire HVAC system this month. After the replacement, humidity levels immediately dropped into the normal range, confirming that the original system was faulty. A professional mold inspection in July 2025 revealed Condition 3 (active mold growth) inside the ductwork, with multiple toxic mold species detected. We've also dealt with ceiling water damage, the failure of two refrigerators (likely from moisture), and most concerning -- our 2-year-old son has suffered repeated respiratory infections, requiring nebulizer treatments, steroids, and emergency medical visits. In July 2025, a company rep (Dale Pearce) entered our property without permission, failed to identify himself, and claimed the system had been installed correctly -- despite Ring footage showing it was already dismantled. He offered no documentation to support his claims and didn't inform us of the visit until nearly a week later. He spent exactly 5 minutes on our property and made no attempts to contact us for permission to be there. We've reached out repeatedly since June 25, but have received only two vague responses that ignored our health concerns, the mold photos, and our request for compensation. So far, Homes by Dickerson has refused to take accountability. We've since filed formal complaints with: - The NC General Contractor Licensing Board - The NC HVAC Licensing Board - The NC Attorney General's Office - The Better Business Bureau We're also aware of other homeowners in our neighborhood reporting similar HVAC and mold issues, and are now exploring legal action. **Buyers, beware. A premium builder name doesn't guarantee safety, service, or accountability.**

Jim U. Living in Forest Springs Townhomes. We moved in 13…read moreyears ago. I just had to contact them for an issue with the building settling. We live in an end unit which likely leaves it more prone to settling but this is ridiculous. The common wall between the kitchen and pantry has a huge crack to the extent the pantry door will not even close. Front door has been very difficult to close for close to a year now, obviously another settling issue. There is also a crack on an adjacent wall where a window is installed. In addition we have cracks down the driveway and a fairly wide crack all the way down the middle of the garage floor. I have seen many owners comment on the HVAC system which we had to have repaired numerous times, eventually having to replace it entirely a couple of years ago. Virtually every neighbor we know within a stones throw have all had to replace their system as well. I will report back on the settling issue.

Worst builder ever. Cracked walls, cracked crown molding, no base primer paint on walls just one…read morecoat, painted horribly. No hot water the first two weeks we moved in, defective dishwasher releasing water all over the new hardwoods, crack hearth on fireplace. Terrible lot, it was not prepped properly, dead sod, drainage issues in the backyard, eroding berm in the back. Worst craftsmanship we have ever seen. Also their workers remove blue tape instead of addressing areas thinking no one would notice. Nothing is leveled, almost like the home was built by a blind 10 year old with no experience. Our project manager was useless they had to bring in another one to finish the job. Home not ready for the closing that THEY scheduled, we postponed until it was ready, it still wasn't ready for the second closing. We were forced to close out of necessity since we were suppose to be out of our other home with the promise that items would be addressed after closing for 1-2 days after....we had men in an out for 3 weeks straight ...ruined our thanksgiving and Christmas. We have built numerous homes from scratch with different builders through the years and this has been the worst experience of our lives. We have never felt this much buyers remorse. Too many situations to list. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT BUY OR BUILD WITH THIS BUILDER.

We recently closed on our home in Summerwind plantation on November 3, and it has been a nightmare…read moresince. I would never recommend McKee Homes to anyone, I took lightly what reviews I read and wish I hadn't. Please reconsider your purchase if you haven't already when considering a McKee Home. Being a first time home buyer can be frustrating and stressful, well McKee has done nothing but add to my level of stress. I'm also a mom to a beautiful baby girl of 7 months (6 months) when we closed. When we moved in there were a lot of cosmetic issues with the home, huge bow in the foyer, paint issues, and poor drywall. I've learned that McKee does not hire quality. My reasoning behind not being pleased with McKee is because there was a trench in the middle of my living room last week. A pipe apparently was installed 9 inches higher than it was supposed to be, which lead to our toilet in the half bath not flushing properly. The amount of dust has still not settled, and it is EVERYWHERE. We were not told to take our small items upstairs to avoid getting dust on them, which meant all of my daughters toys, brand new pillows, things in our kitchen, pantry, everything has dust on it. They failed to cover my brand new leather couches, our Christmas tree, and other items. All said and done, we have had to call the cleaning crew 2 times so far, and the paint crew came 3 times because they failed to do their job right the first time. The inconvenience and stress they have caused from their mistake was gifted to us with a $200 gift card and a lot of "sorrys." That doesn't even compensate for the fact that I'm going to have to replace my Christmas tree, and other items such as my daughter's bouncer. When I spoke to the warranty person, Mark, I mentioned of course they had to fix the issue as it was the builder who was at fault, his response was "well we could've taken forever to get it done." So if this is the type of customer service you are satisfied with then McKee homes is for you. Not to mention we are over a month after closing and I still do not have a mailbox. If I could do it all over again, I would not have built a home with McKee.

We fell in love with the layout of the house, the location of the property and the fact that it was…read morestill in the early stages of construction and we could still pick out colors and finishings. The neighborhood that we purchased in is very nice and didn't question that to build in this neighborhood that quality would be an issue. There were so many issues through the build process we should have taken that as a sign to run, but we were continually told issues would be fixed, no need to worry by both the builder as well as our real estate agent. For example, we picked out white kitchen cabinets, came by the house one day after construction crews left to discover they installed brown cabinets. We selected a specific sink only to find the wrong sink had been installed which also meant that the countertop was also wrong and had to be reinstalled. There was absolutely no quality control in our home build. My husband is in the military and deployed midway through the construction process and I had to handle the closing. My walk-thru was horrible. We spent a good 2 hours and I can't count how many rolls of blue painters tape marking ALL the things that needed to be fixed and touched up, it was endless. The day of closing my RE agent and I walked the house and was apprehensive to close because of items that still weren't to my satisfaction. There was encouragement from my agent as well as the staff from McKee that the things that I was unhappy about would be fixed to my satisfaction if we proceeded with closing. Against my better judgement, we closed. Here we are 8 months after closing and we are unhappy, to put it mildly The craftsmanship and quality of materials is horrible. There is not one single piece of trim in the ENTIRE house that does not have some sort of defect in/on it, nail holes, dents, scratches. We have had McKee come out now countless times to fix things and it is always one step forward and two steps back with them. I have paint on my furniture, stain they spilled on our floors, paint that has been "fixed" looks worse than before they touched it. They just cannot get it right. Our paint has been touched up, so poorly, so many times, it reminds me of my grandmothers 60 year old house. McKee's motto it seems is if you can't fix it, caulk it. We have chunks of caulking on most of corners and around door frames. We have paint drips everywhere, grit and air bubbles in our paint, uneven surfaces, squeaky floors, an abnormal amount, in my opinion of nail pops, different paint finishes in the same areas, the trim work is embarrasing. If you are going to sacrifice cheap materials, I would hope that it would be made up with quality contractors, but that is not the case. The grading on our lot (and every single lot on our street) is inadequate and every time there is a heavy ran, we have rivers running through all of our yards. McKee talked a great game in the beginning, everyone that works there is very nice, but there is absolutely no follow through to ensure things are fixed, correctly. We have been told most of our issues are industry standard, which blows my mind. For the amount of money we paid for our house we expected a better finished product. In my opinion this just shows McKee is in it just for the money and really don't care. We have tried reaching out to the president of the company an he won't even speak with us directly. He has passed along his "word" in an email through someone else in the company basically blowing us off. We asked to speak with him directly which we have been unable to do. We would like for him to come out and see what "quality craftsmanship" looks like and see if this would be acceptable in his own home. McKee offers up LOTS of apologies, talks a great game about fixing our issues, but 8 months later, can't get it right. This whole process had just made me very sad, and took away any excitement about buying this house. I would be more than happy to share pictures with anyone considering a McKee home.
