They sent me to Quest for labs on Monday. I went immediately after my appointment. Labs were ready Tuesday. They said they have access to the Quest system. Quest sent them the Labs AND they have access to the system, and I didn't hear anything. I called 3x and left 3 messages Thursday. No answer. No return calls. I called 2x on Friday and finally had to talk to a scheduler. She went into the Quest system and found the labs (MAGIC huh?) and then said "well no providers are here today so it'll have to be Monday". Another week without medication due to the sheer incompetency, and worse, INDIFFERENCE that this practice shows its patients. I'll be finding a new provider once they finally get me my medication. Enough is enough. They just don't care.

The office is on the second floor of an old, dated building. Rooms are small. But the care was good. They permitted a family member to be present, which was appreciated, as my mom is elderly and very hard of hearing. Everyone was kind to her, and I'm grateful to the team.

I appreciated all the great reviews of Dr. Boyd and after weeks and weeks of trying to find a…read moredoctor I think I can trust, they helped me decide she was the doctor for me. So I called for an appointment and was told she could see me on August 18 (today is July 2). I have prescriptions that have to be monitored and maintained, and I also have a very painful issues with my arm. I don't think either can wait for August 18. They are two separate appointments and they won't combine them: one is "to establish care" and the other is an illness visit. Once I see her as a "wellness visit" on August 18, I would be able to "get in quicker" to see her in the future. For now, if I'd like to be seen and monitored by "someone else" who has more availability in their schedule I could do that. Well, I've had a terrible experience with a doctor in Chicago that left me with ongoing medical issues that could have been prevented. So I did my research and selected someone I felt I could trust. I was so very lucky to have that in New Orleans (from where I just moved) and I just wanted that again. I don't really want to see "someone else" that I don't know anything about and waiting 6+ weeks to see a doctor I researched heavily. So while I can't really rate Dr. Boyd herself, this is a warning to those who are looking for a doctor: even though her site says she is accepting new patients, I don't think she really has time for them. Be sure you can wait six weeks before seeing her if you choose her. I get why she's busy -- she's good. But why advertise that you're accepting new patients when you really don't have time for someone who needs you?

Dr. Boyd is AMAZING. She's warm, but professional. She takes her time with her patients, and it's…read moreobvious that she cares very deeply for those in her care. Truth be told, I prefer younger, female, Family Docs (as opposed to Internal Medicine) - just as personal preference - but she's absolutely lovely. Kind. Attentive. Concerned. All the things you want in a GP. Oh - and one last thing: At my previous practice, there would be a HUGE wait - I mean, HOURS. (But heaven forbid you be more than 10 minutes late...they would cancel your appointment.) Not so with Dr. Boyd. I never feel rushed, either. She's genuinely a good MD. Seriously.

STAY AWAY!! If you have acne problems find a functional nutritional practitioner. I came to Dr…read more Abate for cystic acne and she prescribed spironolactone. She was also pushing birth control but I said no to that. I was on spironolactone for about 2 years and it destroyed my memory. I was NOT informed about long term side effects and when I asked she basically changed the subject. I was already getting terrible migraines and after this appointment I decided to weaned myself off. I've been off spironolactone for one year now and I am still suffering from migraines and my memory has Never been the same. I don't recommend! It is NOT worth loosing your memory for.

Late last year, I went to Dr. Abate to remove a small angioma in my face. She suggested to remove…read morethe angioma by laser and also to remove a few dark spots in the face. I agreed, stressing, though, that my first priority was the removal of the angioma. She noted a growth between my upper lip and my nose. She thought that it might be skin cancer. She shaved it and sent the sample to a pathology lab for analysis. I paid $250.00 and left. A few days later I realized that the angioma was still there. After a couple of weeks, the pathology report determined that cancer cells were not detected in the sample and that the growth was probably a wart, even though at the time no HPV viral particles were detected. The shaving has left a noticeable scar in my face. Earlier this week, and about four months after I saw Dr. Abate, her nurse told me to see Dr. Abate to check the surgery. I said that I was not going to see again a dermatologist who cannot remove a small angioma and cannot differentiate between basal cell carcinoma and a wart. A wart that can be treated by freezing, leaving no very visible scar. Apparently Dr. Abate was offended by my remark. I realize that I was abrupt and not very diplomatic, but what I said is true: I still have the angioma, there was not cancer, and I am left with an avoidable scar in the middle of my face.

I really do not want to-risk spending another 700 for a product that my body might reject. With that said I would still say Dr Kovac is excellent at what he does but will not get the injections again.

Dr. Kovak agreed to send in Rx to Walgreens. Upon leaving appointment, Sandy Kovak told me there was a $100 Fee for Writing a Prescription. Then she told me it was a Consultation Fee which contradicted what I was told when making the appointment (Office Visit). This was never disclosed nor stated when I inquired about the costs when making the appointment nor during the exam. It is unusual and improper for a doctor's office to charge a separate $100 prescription fee on top of an office visit charge, especially if it was not disclosed upfront. A prescription is generally considered part of the treatment included in the cost of the office visit. I have asked for this charge to be reversed and to have Dr. Kovak return my call.
