I came in for an assessment on my scalp and a facial mole. He did not examine my scalp and gave me a prescription for selenium sulfide shampoo... Basically something I could have gotten over the counter because it's dandruff shampoo. And it wasn't dandruff that I had it was psoriasis on my scalp and hairline. He did not evaluate the mole properly. He stood up from his chair and computer looked at my face for 2 seconds and said it's fine. He kept talking into a microphone so it was confusing when he was talking to me or taking notes for himself. ***The worst part is when his assistant left the room at one point and he told me that I look like jailbait. Dr. Barsky was wonderful; reminded me of my dad. Made me feel very comfortable. I had a cyst removed on my forehead; took less than 15 minutes for the whole procedure including stitching. HORRIBLE I saw Barsky several years ago for what appeared to be Poison Ivy. He said he thought I had Poison Ivy. I said I didn't know how that was possible since I was living in the city, not going to any parks or forests, etc. He said, "OK, it's not poison ivy" and was done ! I can understand other reviewers frustration with the office staff bc I have witnessed some behavior that might be construed as rude while waiting or scheduling appointments. However, when I treat and speak kindly to the staff they respond kindly as well. I think maybe they get a bit overwhelmed because it's always so busy and since they are the "front line" they get the wrath of unhappy clients. I have also had to wait over an hour for an appointment but I myself am a medical professional so I can empathize. Sometimes emergencies happen with clients or an unexpected situation needs to be managed and it takes time resolving these problems. I gave Dr Barsky 5 stars because he is very competent, does a thorough skin examination and provides excellent treatment recommendations. He has always asked if students can be present for the exams (and the fact he allows students to train with him is commendable and shows his commitment to education). He has never once pushed any skin care product on me which is extremely refreshing and appreciated. Oh and the microphone he talks into? All doctors do that, they just do it at their desk after an appointment. Or they type the info by hand. Kudos to the old guy (sorry Dr B) for actually using advanced technology. So, maybe the waiting room and chairs aren't up to date.. but I don't rate medical professionals on their office, I rate them on their quality of care. read more

I have seen Dr. Barsky and he removed moles from my face with no scarring. He also removed one from my back. He then saw and biopsied a mole from my 6 year old daughter. She was scared, but he and his staff were kind and funny and made her feel comfortable and he has always been a pleasure to speak with. I am not sure if your receptionist was having a bad day but family member was very upset with the they were talked down to. I have been seeing Dr. Barsky for over 15 years for skin exams, mole removals, and vein treatments. My daughter and son have also seen him for skin exams and mole removals. I originally had my daughter see a doctor closer to home for a mole removal which was horrific. She developed an awful raised scar, which Dr. Barsky was able to treat. She has since gone only to him, and none of the moles he removed developed a scar. He is worth going the extra distance. He knows his stuff and can find troublesome skin conditions with the naked eye. During my last exam, he was very concerned about , what I thought to look like a scar not a mole, on my arm. Thank goodness he biopsied it to find basal cell carcinoma. AS for the staff, these ladies are great! If they were rude to anyone, I'm guessing it's because the patient was rude when they walked in. read more

This guy is horrible. I agree completely with the other reviewer. His bedside manner is terrible and he gives you absolutely no personal space whatsoever. He talks at you rather than to you and I felt somehow violated after going to him. He didn't seem to help me at all. I went to him for acne treatment and acne scar removal. Nothing he did helped me and it seemed like he was practicing on me with the scar removal treatment. It was horrible. I cried after every single appointment with him. read more

I read all the great reviews and decided to pay Dr. Barsky a visit for a skin cancer screening. To be honest, the visit made me quite uncomfortable and I decided to look for another doctor that I am now happy with. The nurse that saw me asked SO many questions, I mean at least 50 questions, all the while making some inappropriate jokes to my fiance and I. After all the questionnaire, the doctor walks in with an intern. The doctor seemed uncomfortable with the fact that I am a woman, he didn't want to examine my private areas, when I told him I didn't mind since he's a doctor and I am paying for a skin cancer screening he made the intern stay there and watch, though she awkwardly stared at posters on the walls. I asked the intern a question to spike conversation and she seemed uncomfortable speaking to me so the doctor answered for her. Anyway, he looked at my moles with his bare eye, and just seemed to randomly point "that one needs to go, this one can stay, that one goes, this stays" it was all very strange. He concluded I needed 3 moles removed for a biopsy and wanted me to schedule a follow up visit for it. The whole time he spoke into a little microphone which I assume added my info to his files but nevertheless, awkward, he never mentioned anything about it. He also seemed to force a laugh at everything I said. Anyway, I went to new derm who decided I only needed two moles removed after looking with a magnifying lens and light and thoroughly inspecting my body in a medical gown and she did it right then and there. I would not go back to this office after this experience. read more

Ok, here's the thing. If you want lipo, or a boob job, or botox, this is your guy. If you're freaked out that you have skin cancer and want to get screened, this is probably a good choice too (so is a hospital...just saying). His bedside manner does make you uncomfortable, and it's readily apparent that he has OCD to the point where he cannot do his job properly (he freaked out over the fact that I wasn't wearing socks with my sandals and made me leave, without even trying to diagnose me). The staff is so-so, although a couple of them do not speak passable English. However, if you have acne...just no. There are way better dermatologists who will actually take the time to evaluate you, have decent bedside manner, and will not bombard you with every prescription drug in existence to solve your skin problems. His idea of treatment is prescribing a new drug EVERY TIME YOU COME IN! After 4 months of seeing him my skin had been chemically burned, I was throwing up because of some crazy hormone treatment he had me on, I had spent well over 400$ on treatments/medications, and worst of all, my acne was still there. On a side note, his office needs to step out of 1982 and into 2010. read more

I received no call back from voicemail or email return for a new patient appointment. 1 week later I was able to schedule an appointment. I arrived to 10-15 people in the waiting room and down the hallway. I was told the wait would be at least 1 hour past my appointment time and the next available appointment would not be for over 1 month. If there are 10-15 people in line only 1 hour past opening there must be a scheduling problem here. September 2018. read more

I have been a patient of his for many years and would never dream of seeing another dermatologist. He specializes in everything from acne, to Botox, and other skin conditions. Dr. Barsky was the 3rd dermatologist I had seen for a specific kind of eczema I had. The two before had not even bothered to help me figure out what was wrong with me. Dr. Barsky was the last dermatologist I will ever have to go to because he finds a solution. He will work to help you find a cure. He did for me! He didn't give up for almost 1.5 yrs to help me be able to be a person again. Three years later and I owe a lot to him. His office is also filled with some strong women that he consistently tells me they are the ones that keep him going. He's an educated doctor with a great sense of humor. Let me start off by saying that I have been a patient of Dr. Barsky since I was 23 years old. I'll be 46 in a few months!! To say Dr. Barsky is an amazing doctor is an UNDERSTATEMENT! When I first saw Dr. Barsky 20+ years ago, I had an accident that resulted in my top lip being ripped in half. Dr. Barsky not only surgically repaired my lip but you cannot physical look at me and see the damage that this injury caused. As an African American woman it is difficult if not impossible to find a dermatologist that has the knowledge base of how to care for black skin. Let me tell you, when it comes to skin care this man is a genius!!! I have seen Dr Barsky countless times in 20 plus years and I look forward to every visit. Each visit is better than the last. He listens to your concerns and responds. He's a wonderful person very friendly and will have you in a better mood than when you walked in the door! I have a 10 year old child and yes she goes to Dr. Barsky to! She had psoriasis that was taken care of immediately. The staff???... Just as amazing as Dr. Barsky. I'm sorry if I've rambled on as I've never written a review before. Bottom line... I drive 50 miles one way to see Dr. Barsky . HE IS WORTH IT!!! I have been trying to get a small tattoo removed since October. Friends referred me to to Dr. Barsky, but unfortunately I have not had the chance to meet him yet. He, and his office, have cancelled on me three times after I had already taken personal time from work. It is now the middle of February, and still cannot seem to get them to keep an appointment. I have had a rare type of skin cancer and this doctor has helped me through 2 recurrences of the disease. He is extremely knowledgeable and gives me helpful advice at each visit. When necessary, he has consulted with my other doctors to make sure that I am getting the proper treatment for my illness. I am very surprised that these reviews are so poor because Dr. Barsky saved my looks and my vision. As a baby I contracted a wart virus and it was on my hands and eyelid. My mother went to several doctors and was not able to find any doctor willing to remove the wart because it was so close to my eye that if I blinked they would lazer my actual eye instead of my eye ball. However, the wart was causing my eye to close and preventing me from seeing from that eye. My mother found Dr. Barsky THANK GOD! Dr. Barsky was able to lazer the wart off no problem. He does have horrible bedside manner but I would rather have a genius doctor with horrible bedside manner than an idiot who is nice. The doctor is not suppose to be your friend, he is suppose to provide top quality treatment. I have gone to Dr. Barsky as my dermatologist my entire life and he has actually proved to be cheaper than other doctors. I continued to have a wart problem and went to a dermatologist closer to my home once to have the warts treated and they insisted I come in for numerous expensive treatments when Barsky was able to solve the problem with one $60 visit. He is the best, please do not be offended by his bedside manner. I have been to med school and the doctors that are the smartest do not always have very good people skills. read more
