Dr. Ruth Barsky is my hidden secret no more…read more Want great looking skin no matter your age? Or a doctor that believes in preventative measures to keep your skin looking young? Or one who knows all the latest tricks to cure no matter what skin issues you are facing? Well take a trip to Oak Brook and see Dr. Ruth. I am actually one of the lucky ones with very few skin issues and I will be thriled to have my mom's skin when I am her age. Her skin looks great and has her whole life. Love it when the genes actually help for a change! But if you need some skin help- Barsky Dermatological is the place to go. Whether it is preventative (annual mole review) surgical (removal of things you don't want on your body) cosmetic (haven't tried this yet but I have colleagues in the office who swear by it . . .a little Botox anyone?) or topical (something that makes you scratch unrelentlessly), Dr. Ruth will have you in, out and on your way in no time. I love that she runs on time and her office is actually in the Oak Brook Mall office building so I always "treat" myself to a "little something" on the way out. : ) Good skin is an asset no matter your age. And I trust mine to no one else.

She told me that the darkening of my skin was because I was fat/folds and I needed to lose weight so it will go away. I felt like she was treating me like a little child. I couldn't believe she said that and months later, I found out that the skin disorder was a symptom...I have PCOS and that was a sign of cancer that I had. Luickliy I'm cancer free now, but I'm looking elsewhere for a better doctor. So if you have skin disorder/issues I'd say look elsewhere.

STAY AWAY!! If you have acne problems find a functional nutritional practitioner. I came to Dr…read more Abate for cystic acne and she prescribed spironolactone. She was also pushing birth control but I said no to that. I was on spironolactone for about 2 years and it destroyed my memory. I was NOT informed about long term side effects and when I asked she basically changed the subject. I was already getting terrible migraines and after this appointment I decided to weaned myself off. I've been off spironolactone for one year now and I am still suffering from migraines and my memory has Never been the same. I don't recommend! It is NOT worth loosing your memory for.

Late last year, I went to Dr. Abate to remove a small angioma in my face. She suggested to remove…read morethe angioma by laser and also to remove a few dark spots in the face. I agreed, stressing, though, that my first priority was the removal of the angioma. She noted a growth between my upper lip and my nose. She thought that it might be skin cancer. She shaved it and sent the sample to a pathology lab for analysis. I paid $250.00 and left. A few days later I realized that the angioma was still there. After a couple of weeks, the pathology report determined that cancer cells were not detected in the sample and that the growth was probably a wart, even though at the time no HPV viral particles were detected. The shaving has left a noticeable scar in my face. Earlier this week, and about four months after I saw Dr. Abate, her nurse told me to see Dr. Abate to check the surgery. I said that I was not going to see again a dermatologist who cannot remove a small angioma and cannot differentiate between basal cell carcinoma and a wart. A wart that can be treated by freezing, leaving no very visible scar. Apparently Dr. Abate was offended by my remark. I realize that I was abrupt and not very diplomatic, but what I said is true: I still have the angioma, there was not cancer, and I am left with an avoidable scar in the middle of my face.

They were able to ease my nerves as it's my first time ever getting these procedures. The team sent me all the instructions I needed prior to the procedure to help me prepare. The only downside to this experience is that they couldn't find my vein for a while, and there was no other option but to give anesthesia through IV. Some facilities have backup options like laughing gas. They ultimately found it, just in time for my procedure. The entire procedure took about an hour, I woke up pretty quickly, and I was also surprised how quickly they were able to get my results. They had images of the findings for me. The only thing that took a couple of days was biopsy. I'd totally come back to this facility in the future, and I'd recommend Dr. Ng and her team to anyone in the area looking for all things gastroenterology related.
