I inherited shell vacation club from parents 10 years ago. They have changed hands a few times since membership. Each time resorts became busier and quality went down. However, fees always go up every year. Resorts go down on quality. We were in Hawaii and bulb in pool light was exposed with wires hanging out of pool light. I told management they didn't seem to be concerned. We stayed in another one and people were living out of a units. They say they don't have units available but then you go online and look at travel websites and they have them for rent. Just a side note if you're renting out units that we pay maintenance fees on shouldn't we at least get a discount on fees? You can almost rent units on travel sites for same price you pay on fees per year. Every time you stay in resort they try and sale you something. As you can see I do not recommend joining :) save money and go where you want and when ever you want to travel. read more

I can find nothing positive to say about Shell vacation clubs. The locations are crappy. Use is difficult. But the biggest issue are the maintenance fees. They hit almost $1200 this year. I can take my own vacation for that and don't need their hassles. Then I try to exit/give back the time share I've had for 12 years and used once and they scam me again! they send you from one agent to another, hold times are horribly long, their phones disconnect you so you have to call back, and then they change their rules. It's like a Saturday Nigh Live skit it's so unbelievable. I would never recommend Shell or RCI! I get why their staff are unfriendly since they must be getting unhappy victims/members calling all the time. This borders a scam organization. read more

I attended a presentation at Inn at the Park in San Diego, it was full of so many sleazy sales tactics it was ridiculous. From making us sign a piece of paper stating "we refused the current offer and we'll NEVER get that deal again after today" to sending in multiple sales reps to convince us to buy (three to be exact)... all of which were pathetic. Once you feel you're in the clear, they'll send you to take an "Exit Survey" as they put it.... But beware, she's there to offer you two more incredible deals! Once they realized we couldn't be fooled, the attitude was so obvious. They know their product is a scam but try to make you feel stupid for not signing your life away. The first package was $54,000 (but on sale, don't worry... original price was $70,000). Haha I feel bad though if people get tied into this, I hope with all the reviews buyers become more aware of this dying concept of time shares. read more

If I could give ZERO stars, I would! I've been a Shell Vacations Club member since 2016, and have only used it twice. Mainly because their system/website is so convoluted and complicated. I've wasted thousands of dollars in this membership. When I first tried to get out of my contract, I was told my initial loan had to be paid off first. Now that it's all paid off, I'm being told that it "could take up to 6 months for the paperwork to be finalized. And in the meantime, I have to continue to pay the monthly maintenance fees!!" I am a Shell Vacation Elite member for many years and am very disappointed in the gradual decline of service and demeanor. Some examples are major some minor but add to the poor experience. I will list in no apparent order. 1. Was told despite of Covid that we would lose points unless converted to RCI ( can nearly ever get desired reservation) or to Visa Debit Cards 2. Chose debit cards. Activated them according to instructions. Did not work. Called shell. They refused to get me to customer care person. Instead told me to got to stolen option on auto call. 4-12-22 Refused to provide customer care to help is out. I was embarrassed at 2 restaurants with 2 cards tha were declined. 3. No longer give breakfast as Vegas or Anaheim but we still pay more maintenance fees each year. 4. No longer give welcome gifts or use of bathrobes but fees continue to raise. 5. Owner updates are strictlysales pitches to get you to convert to parent Wyndham company with caveat that you have to pay for more points. Few years back, was reserved a room at Wyndham buy Shell reservations. Got there, no reservation. Sent us on wild goose chase walking around NYC ( in my 60s until a Joel was available. We have been owners for over 10 years, and have always been satisfied, until our last experience. Nov 2021, we were supposed to stay at Starr Pass, AZ. I never received an email so I looked at the SVC website (which is quite difficult to use) to find our dates. The website said Tuesday 23 November through Monday 29 November, so tha when we went. We got there, only to find our check in day was actually Saturday 20 November, and we had to checkout on Saturday 27 November! I called SVC that evening and again on Friday, only to be met with rude responses, and no satisfaction whatsoever. All we wanted was an apology and a refund of points for the 3 days we missed out on. WORST COMPANY EVER. There are a ton of hidden fees and no availability. If you want to use your points to stay 1 night only-forget about it. They changed their policy and now it is 2 nights or more. IF you try to use RCI, there are fees for that AND if you don't stay 7 nights they charge you a short-term stay fee! Amenities at resorts are often closed, like the fitness centers or pools. I see all the negative reviews.. so I guess I have to give them 5 stars because .. all these horrible reviews cannot be from satisfied owners like me! I love Shell Vacations Club - we've not only bought but upgraded over the years, and we love staying at the resorts. Vino Bello, for example, in Napa, is gorgeous.. and we love all the locations we commonly visit. I'm planning my next 5 trips already, to Hawaii, Napa, San Fran, San Diego and Palm Springs.. and I use my Shell Vacations Club points for everything from airfare, rental car, food, entertainment - I actually keep track of money I spend outside of my points, and if I spend more than my points allow, that tells me it's time to buy more points! Seriously! I think people who don't like it aren't actually using it to it's full capacity. IMO, but I love my Shell Vacations Club.. We've been to Hawaii 8 times, Napa, San Fran, San Diego, Phoenix, Tucson, and I used my points in full, every single year, and then get them back to use again.. my vacation 401V!! One more thing - I recently booked a "quick" stay, one night only, last minute.. and I got the gorgeous Legacy for $30 for the night!! Seriously! You can't stay at motel 6 for that.. read more

The workers are zombies because none of them really enjoy scamming people into "free travel". Also the front desk sales supervisor "Thy Nguyen"--- yes I'm calling you out--- is the absolute most God-awful woman I have ever had to cross paths with. I ended up asking for a supervisor and none of the workers would own up or call out who was in charge... it was like a scene out of an X-files episode how these zombie scammers treated people. I won't go into it in detail but we all know that one person in our life who has brought us to the edge... this is that person for me. The funny thing is we were actually gonna buy some time shares too. Once again... baffling. If they contact you with free travel opportunities... run away. Trust us. They say that to everyone. UPDATE: The 4 night voucher for the Big island was for the Royal Kona Resort. I did some research and that place got crappy reviews on both Yelp and Trip Advisor. It is run down, old and in desperate need of major renovations. My husband and I decided to forget the voucher and book our Hawaii trip through Costcotravel.com . Found really great deals on Hawaii packages (car, hotel, inter-island flight) for multi island destinations. :) Attended a time share presentation here as they were offering a "free" gift just for attending. The free gift was a 4 night stay on the Big Island of Hawaii and a $50 restaurant.com gift card. I have to say, the sales lady (Jen) was really nice and wasn't too pushy like the other salesman you would typically run into at time share presentations. Though my hubby and I were really tempted to buy into their time share as it sounded pretty good and modern unlike normal time shares, the 20% down was just a little out of our budget, especially since we are saving up for a home. But regardless, we did end up with our free gift which was cool! :) read more

Went here for a presentation with my fiance. Of course they do ALL of their advertising at bridal expos and golf shows. Our "salesman" did a horrible job of trying to SELL us anything. But in his defense, we already knew were not interested. Frankly, he lied to me and from that point on there was no hope of getting my business. If you don't believe in your product enough to sell it without having to lie, then DO NOT SELL IT. He wasted 90 minutes of our time. My wife, son and I attended the sales presentation at the Donatello in SF. The sales pitch by Pamela Fyffe was a confusing array of "points???", cost, and available locations. I tried to make sense of it all, but the product they stated never seemed to justify the high cost. Upon leaving, we collected our car at the Donatello valet parking that was provided by Shell Vacations only to find that the driver's door was dented. The parking garage attendant made no efforts to help and I never heard back from the manager as I was told would happen. I contacted our Shell Vacations salesperson Pamela Fyffe at 415-378-7980, who said she would personally speak with the hotel manager and that I could expect a call back the following day. No call was ever made. I emailed her again but no response. It's been several weeks now. If you work for Shell Vacations, you should be ashamed of yourself for perpetuating such a scam. I would NEVER recommend Shell Vacations Club enrollment to anyone. I attended a presentation where I was promised many things. Paid the money and was put off again and again when trying to make phone calls for booking and cancellation. They will reel you in with all the promises but they will NOT DELIVER. I was lied to several times by their employees....BEWARE OF THIS SCAM! ALSO take a VERY CLOSE LOOK AT THE PLACES THEY HAVE TO STAY/ACCOMODATIONS IN THERE CATALOG - they are ALL 2-3 star ranked hotels that I would NEVER stay at for vacation. They show you all the beautiful locations that you will never be able to stay in with your points and if you are able to use your points for the 3-5 star places, you are better off paying for the vacation when you go - it's cheaper than paying them! I was FINALLY able to get out of my contract after hiring an attorney. The company knows I had a case for cancellation after proving I was lied to but still refused to let me out until they got that letter from the attorney. This review is for the timeshare presentation, since we did not end up purchasing. Our salesman was informative and helpful, not pushy at all. He gave us all the information we needed, answered our questions, and spent extra time going over the pros AND cons. My husband and I don't make quick decisions involving thousands of dollars, so we tentatively signed up for the timeshare and went home to research the company, properties, etc. We decided it was not for us and canceled the following day. NO PROBLEM! I was expecting them to tie up my time with more sales pitching, but nope. They didn't try to stop us or change our minds. I appreciated their professionalism a lot. My only con was the pitch that you had to decide that day. Luckily, California has a 7 day cancelation period. If you decide to cancel, be smart and do it in person. read more

This timeshare is a complete scam. I have owned since 2004. My annual fees continue to increase, even though I can rarely get a room. Although I have already paid off the $25,000 loan for "my points" that I cannot use, I will be sent to collections if I simply want to cancel this "service" that I cannot use. A few years ago I used the points for a hotel room in Hawaii. This was NO resort. Very dated and run down hotel.... and after a 6 hour plane ride, our room was not even ready when we arrived. I can pay $25 to exchange my points for an AMEX card, that I can use on a hotel.... however, the exchange rate for my points for this service is just crazy. I pay $1100 a year in membership dues and can only exchange for $500 a year in a prepaid AMEX hotel card.... that cost me $25. In 2008, I attended a sales meeting for a "free weekend get away in Napa or San Francisco"... It is now 2013 and still cannot get a room. Last week I called to reserve a room in July, in Napa. Rooms aren't available until December. So I asked for Lake Tahoe. No rooms available. I asked to book the Lake Tahoe room for NEXT July........ I was told that I cannot book my room that far in advance. So.... I am too late right now and there are no rooms.... but I cannot plan way ahead for next year and reserve in advance. We've had Shell Vacations for a couple of years now and It's great! Not the typical or old school time shares that you're mom and dad used to own. No fees when you leave the 4-5 stars suites. Friendly customer service and an all around great company. The best part is, you don't have to have your friends buy the time share to go on vacation. You can get extra points for extra rooms or lend them your time share for some private time. Its great! Girlfriends a teacher so it really works out for those that like to vacation every year. My husband and I decided to attend a presentation because of the free gifts the sales man, Mark, promised to offer for simply attending. We were hesitant until Mark said he would give us 4 nights stay at a villa in Hawaii. Mark seemed very sincere and honest and the offer sounded way too nice so we signed up for it! When we tried to redeem the Hawaii trip voucher, we found out the whole thing was nothing but a big fat lie. They were not offering villa but a tiny hotel room. When we questioned the offer, the lady said she would check with her manager, after all, "Customer Satisfaction" is very important to them. What a joke! She called us back -- still the same result. We either get that tiny room they offer, or we pay $39 more PER NIGHT to get a slightly larger room PLUS ATTENDING ANOTHER SEMINAR!!! We contacted the sales man, Mark, hoping he could help straighten things up for us, and sure enough, he did not return our calls at all. I mean it's nice to get free rooms but I don't appreciate being lied to. The way Shell Vacation practices business is horrible and the salesman was completely dishonest! We wouldn't have signed up if he were to tell us what we were really getting. They lie to get you in and come up with dumb excuses to get you to attend more seminars. I purchased a Vacation Membership from Shell Vacations Club on Sep 21 2014 for $1795.  The membership gave me 6000 points to use to book resorts in California, Nevada, Arizona, or Hawaii for the following 2 years from the date of purchase.  Along with this purchase, I also get a "Southern California Adventure Getaway" package (provided by Holiday Travel of America) which included 2 nights of resort stay and 2 tickets to theme parks.  In Jan 2015, I started booking vacations from Holiday Travel of America.  I provided 4 different sets of dates in June 2015 and Aug 2015 (all complying their booking policy) hoping to be able to book one of the chosen sets of dates.  Emails went back and force for over 3 months and I was told NON of the dates were available to book!  In July 2016, I called Shell Vacations Club (SVC Discovery) customer service line to try to use my purchased points to book resort rooms (Either in Napa Valley or in San Francisco).  I provided several sets of dates again hoping to be able to book one but AGAIN, NOTHING was available!  However, I did an online hotel search at the same time and found that those resorts were available for general public to book!  Soon after that, my purchased 6000 points expired!  I tried to contact the customer service several times to require an extension of my membership due to not being able to book anything (according to my purchase contract under "your membership").  The representative refused me in a VERY RUDE manner.  I also want to mention that when I made the purchase of this membership, the sales rep didn't not inform me about any of the hidden fees I have to pay to book and use the points.  No one told me either that I should be aware that weekends, summer time, school break weeks, and around holidays are almost IMPOSSIBLE to book no matter what.  I highly suspect that this company oversold their membership to consumers without considering their ability to deliver their service.  I wasted $1795. read more

This would have been great if it turned out as promised.. HOWEVER, once we signed up we found that the points don't get you as much as they say, a majority of the properties in the book are never available, and the club fees and property taxes are high and they hit you with huge late fees if you miss a payment due date! In the almost two years since purchased, I've paid a little under $10,000 for one weekend with a studio in an average hotel in San Diego, and a couple thousand points banked that I can't seem to be able to use anywhere that I've tried to go. As a former SVC owner I'm warning you not to do it. If you're sitting in the lobby awaiting your appointment for a presentation, just leave now and be glad you didn't subject yourself to the 3+ hours of hard selling and BS'ing. It doesn't make any logical sense to pay hundreds of dollars a month on the points package and maintenance fees to only get an average motel like room for a weekend or two a year. And those points don't roll over more than 2 years so don't even think that you'll get enough to stay in a resort room comparable to what they will show you on the tour. Think about it, a minimum of 200-300 a month (cheapest package) over the years of your term to stay in something that would cost you less to just rent up front? Oh by the way I've seen Shell properties available to rent on Expedia or Hotels.com, etc. and what you can rent online from them is nicer than what your points will give you. All that money down to not even own something that you can sell? Don't do it, walk away. It's not even worth the free gifts they will give you if you're able to stay strong and say no the entire presentation. Why go thru the mind numbing torture. We attended a presentation in San Diego at Inn at the Park. Our Sales associate was very well versed, but the presentation was felt like a lot of smoke and mirrors. We purchased in the end with certain agreements that we have never been able to get them to respond back too. I have never encountered such a run around, and deception from any company...... I have stayed in the Peacock Suites, Vino Bello, Inn at the opera and The Donatello all great resorts with great customer service. I have had only one bad experience with Peacock Suites years ago and both the hotel and Shell Vacations made it up to me. read more

The free gifts are misrepresentations (not as stated), used to get you to show up and buy their timeshare, while also causing you to be locked into a vacation that DOES cost you more and more money, as it is not what it is advertised to be. I went for a presentation. (On a side note, as another reviewer mentioned, the first guy was not all that great.) To get you to show up, they offered you a free vacation of 2 days (mid-week), with you paying a portion of the fee (us choosing Napa). The lady at the AMC Theater showed us lovely pictures of the alleged resort we would stay at in Napa. The same was shown at the presentation (we traveled well over 90 minutes south to attend). I was told we would stay at this 5 star resort at the conclusion of the presentation after I said I would not buy the timeshare (honestly considering their proposal first), with the sales person at Shell showing me those pictures in a binder. I verified, "this is the resort; the one shown in the picture?" "Yes.", the salesman claimed. With that information, I accepted the voucher. I sent in the relevant paperwork to their contracted provider, lets call them HT, and paid my non-refundable deposit (signing a paper which said I would have to pay a no-show fee if I later chose not to go). About 6 months later, HT called to confirm dates and as we discussed the details, I learned the voucher for a Best Western- 2 star, not the resort I saw in the picture. I explained what I was told and shown, and HT's person sounded genuinely concerned, saying we should let them know who said that and fax a copy of those pictures (as if I would remember his exact name and that the salesman provides those pictures to me during his deceptive presentation). I never heard back from them however until I called recently since my 2nd date was approaching and I had not heard anything. I was told by HT that the whole month for my 2nd date. Really!!!? How is that if I set it up almost a year in advance and was getting a 2 star hotel? HT, however, did offer me a refund, which at this point is better than being screwed and dealing with his nonsense further. Still, will I actually get my refund (in my lifetime?). I will believe it when I have the check in hand. I also left messages for Shell Vacations, but no return call. Look at the posts and see if anyone would expect different. I seriously doubt I will ever receive a courtesy call. (I will update if I hear something more.) I still suggest you all look into legal action against Shell if you get duped with the bate and switch. This is not reasonable and they need to learn they cannot do this. Look at the Consumer Legal Remedies Act (CA Civ Code 1770) which creates an action for unfair business practices involving a transaction, including misrepresentations. I am not sure if HT is involved, but if they live up to their promise to refund my money, I suggest they cut ties with Shell. Shell Vacations' sales branch (part of SCV West LLC) not only intended to induce me into buying a timeshare with their misrepresentations, but also succeeded in inducing me into purchasing (and paying for) a trip that was not as represented, potentially costing me more money in penalties if I do not show up for a vacation that iwhen revealed as what it actually is, is not what I would ever want. It looks like I am getting my refund (but lost 90 minutes, plus over an hour drive both ways and gas money that I will never see again.) Where is the class action attorney? Shame on you Shell...better change your ways. The Law in CA is VERY consumer friendly because we do not allow such deceptive business practices here in Cali. We were so naive and trusting and stupid that we didn't question what the charming salesman told us. Who would not want to own something that would "allow you to vacation anywhere in the world". Everything the salesman said made so much sense to me. So, my friend and I decided to buy the lowest level, which costed us $10,000. We walked out of that place actually feeling a little excited that we owned something. ......until a couple of weeks later when realized that what i just bought was nothing concrete; it was just abstract points that really have no value. When my friend and i tried to reserve a place for our vacation, it was not available. It was such a hassle that we finally just paid out of pocket for the place we wanted to stay. After we paid off the 10 grand, we continued to have to pay for over $600 yearly for maintenance fee for places that we never got to stayed at. We could ve used this money to book for hotels without all the hassles and the 10 grand. To shorten a lengthy, very frustrating experience with this Shells vacation, we wanted it off our back since we did not want to pay for increasing maintenance fee for the rest of our lives. We tried to give our points away to charity, but no one wanted them. Anyways, we ended up calling the place to cancel the membership after losing all that money and only being able to use it twice for a total of 4 nights at an average hotel. I learned my lesson. Stay away from those booth/people at the mall who promise free vacation or trips. When something sounds too good, it s probably not true. PLEASE Listen to all the crappy reviews, this place is horrible. I first owned at peacock suites years ago and being young and dumb they talked us into converting to points with shell vacation, worst mistake ever good luck doing any exchanges and to top if off they charge you. They have zero sympathy. My loan is paid off but if I decide to stop paying the ever rising maintenance fees (now 750) it will go against my credit so I feel like they have me for life. We bought 3500 points a year while at the Orange Tree Resort in April 2016. All of the information we were told about what the 3500 gets you was a lie. They also said that I could deposit my Intervale annual rental with them for 3500 points which they did during my sales presentation. So I left there with 7000 points. When I tried to deposit my 2017 Intervale deposit with Shell, it was demied as you have to have a prime time date and do it 10 months or later after the 1st of the year. Being 10 months after the 1st of the year takes you in to November which is not consider a prime time, so that was the 1st lie that sucked us in. The initial maint fee was around $900 a year and 2 years late it is $1200 a year. Based on the maintenance fee, you should forego the Shell time share and just go on your own to the destination where you may be paying the same or less for a week. We have gone twice to the Vino Bello in 2017 and 2018 and it is a beautiful spot, but the resort treats the Shell Vavction Club owners as second class people to other paying people and conference attendees who take over the resort and you can't then use their restaurants or bars. read more
