I really desired to like this location However, my experience thus far has made me feel that might not be the case. I usually order to go as it's easier to pick up on my way home from work. My last three orders has had missing items, been cold, or a combination of both. In addition, it seems as if the potatoes are getting smaller by the order. It's very disappointing and frustrating to pay for a service and get poor quality in return. Especially after a long day at the office. I wish there was an option to upload photos! My potatoes are literally a tad smaller than a ping pong ball. I wish these guys would get it together. Seriously! I've been to all the locations and I must admit that these last few visits to the Mesquite location have been by far the worst. I was very disappointed with the service and overall attitude of the staff. My food came out almost an hour after my friends food and the waiter Tyson was very apologetic however would avoid our table any time he was in the vicinity. It took forever to get refills as well so i ended up having to go find someone to refill my daughters drink and a friend of mine went to the bar to get some drinks. The manager Arturo came over and apologized and still didn't get my food out. When I finally got my food it was incorrect and not even hot. I asked for the manager again and was avoided and was finally told by Tyson that they asked him to ring in the separate pound of crawfish again and it would be out soon. Another 20-30 minutes went by before I received the other part of my meal. All this time we saw multiple tables come in, get their food piping hot and leave in a timely manner. I then asked for my check and Arturo came by again and spoke with my table saying they just dropped the ball and offered "VIP" treatment on my next visit however I refuse to go back. We were treated very poorly and had to complain multiple times to even get a part of my order correct (which was the VIP and a pound of crawfish). I have worked in the service industry and am understanding of things that cannot be controlled but this was just too much. I do not recommend this place at all. read more

I visited shell shack because I heard the food and service was great from a family member when they stopped by during its 1st week of opening, so I wanted to give it a go. I service was okay but food is why I gave them 2 stars for. There's no consistency in the temperature our food was served. Cold fires, hot catfish, cold hush puppies, cold soup. I was expecting a hot meal around the same temperature. Also, we ordered mild wings and received hot wings. I will have to think twice before I spend good money here again. read more

To start off our seating was cold as ice... the food was ok way overpriced our waiter was worried more about the bigger table he spilt several drinks... but the worst part is when the waiter chased us to our vehicle and asked if we wanted to pay our bill... it was sitting on the table!!! Drove 30 minutes. Called on my way to the location around 12:30 to place a to go order cause I knew the kitchen closed at 1. The person who answer told me I couldnt place a Togo order but that if I make it there before 1 no matter what time I could just order in. He repeated this a few times. I got there before 1 and the manager I guess, greeted people at the bar by repeatedly mentioning the kitchen was closed which I was confused because it wasn't 1 yet. I asked him personally to make sure and he said it was closed. And the tone of his voice was very off putting. So this was my second time coming to shell shack after a very good first time experience. Our waitress was very attentive and did a great job overall. The reason for 2 stars is because my girlfriend and I are both currently battling some severe food poisoning. It was suggested to us that we try the "date night" entree. I don't think I can ever come back. I may be speaking on emotions now but when you spend well over $100 at a restaurant you'd hope to keep that food down. There is no doubt that there was something in the food that made us both sick. I hope that this only happened to us and no one else. read more

They have change the base for their boils and it is supper salty. When I told the waitress she responded "Well I don't cook the food, I just bring it out." Instead of taking it to the back and telling the chefs/ Manager. So I ask to speak with the manager, and he said he has gotten tons of complaints about it and can't do anything about it because they change the base. Therefore all the boils will be salty. So I asked for medical reason shouldn't you tell your clients about this and he responded "I am order not to tell anyone. And I can't give a discount". So not only do they know thier food is salty but they won't tell you and once you make a complaint they won't do anything about it. Hope someone sees this before they decides to make reservations here. It was my moms birthday and I'm calling Corporate first thing in the morning! This place hits you from every angle. I ordered a "Top Shelf" Long Island. I swear no alcohol was in it! $12.00. French fries are like wing stop. Waiter didn't bother to tell me it cost .50 for a side of ranch. Liquor tax and food tax + a service fee. Automatic 20% tip. First time at this restaurant. I've heard a lot of good things about.. I just had to see for myself. While the service was good the food was nothing to fuss about. And over priced for what they serve. We spent over $100.00 for 4 people and left hungry. Overall the quality of the food is very poor! Calamari was over breaded. Best dining experience in a long time. Get ready to get sloppy. It's a good thing they supply bibs. Drinks are a bit pricey like many restaurants, food excellent. We had crab, shrimp and oysters on the half shell. I was pleased to hear that the fresh oysters are Gulf oysters mmm. I am sadly going to only be able to give this place 3 stars today because the entire experience wasn't worth the prices we paid. My wide had the fired shrimp and fries and except for one shrimp that wasn't cooked all the way, her stuff was good. I on the other hand chose the boil with garlic on mild with potatoes. Well I've only had it once before and it was amazing. I know that because my wife's best friend decided we were sharing all that yummyness. This time not so much. The garlic was over powering the spicy and even the shrimp itself. It was decent at best but not worth the wait nor the price. 3-4 potatoes were soggy and gross. Number 4 wasn't as bad. The waitress ( honesty ) was very nice and all but during our whole hour or so stay, we were not even checked on while the table behind us was checked on several times by the exact same waitress. $44 ? Seriously for that ? I guess I will either be going with a different flavor or a different restaurant all together if this is what I'm gonna get when I come here. We even had to wait almost 20 minutes for the waitress to come back with our debit card so we could leave. Like I said she was very nice but probably needs to step her game up on her job. The food needs a little less garlic flavor also. Otherwise the experience was mediocre at best. Hopefully next time will be better. I love Shell Shack and have been to the locations in Uptown and Plano along with now Mesquite. The Mesquite management is terrible and needs a major revamp. Our food took over an hour to get to the table and we had to send one meal back because the crab was poorly cooked. The crab we ordered in place of what was sent back was slightly more expensive and the up charge was so rudely added to our check. While our waitress was very nice and tried to help where she could, she was extremely busy and had way more tables than she could handle. I love the food and will be back to a different Shell Shack, but never will I return to the Mesquite location. read more

We came here to celebrate my cousins graduation, small group it was only 7 and our waitress Kimmie was awesome. However, the problem was we waited over an hour and a half to get our food after ordering. I ordered the crab legs and when I received them they were cold. After waiting an hour and half then you're going to eat regardless. I also had calamari which came out cold as our appetizer. Also, my cousin crab legs were cold. My other cousin ordered lemon pepper wings and received hot wings. The adult strawberry lemonade lacked the adult sector of the drink, tasted like water with strawberries. The manager came out and offered two free desserts which was fine, however it's not about free but about good food and service. read more

Usually, I love shell shack but unfortunately tonight I tried the mesquite location for the first time and we couldn't get service because it was 1:07 & the kitchen closes at 1am. I honestly didn't even know the sever that was walking up too us was at work because his pants where hanging low and had a too big shirt on that barley said shell shack and no one else was dressed like that but him.. confusing. You could tell he didn't want to deal with us from the way he walked up. The thing is all 3 people that were at the table are in the service industry and our restaurant closes at 2am & we serve drinks and food until 2am I've just never knew or seen restaurants that do this. Kitchen closes at 1 so if you are here after 1am unfortunately you will be greeted rudely as if you are dumb and not a paying customer. I have been to other locations where they still allow you to order food. I work in the service industry and my store closes at 2 am as well we do not stop taking orders food or drinks until 2 am hits. We went to this restaurant last night First, their not friendly at all,they don't even greet you whenever you make it there. Secondly, the waiting process is horrible they have random people waiting around everywhere & whenever they do call your name the person that take you to the table didn't greet you just walks off and the hostess had to tell me this was the person I was supposed to follow. Third, got to the table and the waiter didn't introduce himself either what's that about just handed us these flyer type menus that was hard to see in their dark lighting so we suggestions on drinks from the waiter so we ordered the drinks when we got them they were disgusting the worst I've ever had in my life called the waiter back to tell him we don't want these nasty drink that we wanted something else he informed us that we would still be charged for them of course we asked why he just quickly told us he'll get the manager whenever the came he was rude as hell like the waiter telling us if you ordered it you have to pay it no kind of customer satisfaction. I have to say I could not believe the experience I had last night. I have been in love with Shell Shack Plano since the first day I visited that location but since I have moved that location is kind of a distance so we decided to try the closer location in Mesquite, Tx across the street from Joe's crab shack. It was a Friday so I know it was going to be busy but the wait was 30 minutes or more which was fine because again it was a Friday night. When we finally got called we were seated and the waitress came and introduced herself and took our drink order first, then the apps now to start this out my first and only time trying alligator tenders was the Plano location and they were the best because I didn't know what they were suppose to taste like so when ordering this night they were the worse they didn't have any seasoning at all but the kitchen sink came to the rescue for that situation. So we order 1lb of snow crab and a pound of king crab legs when I tell you I had never been so disappointed that would be an understatement. The snow crabs was the poorest or the poorest looking crab legs I had ever seen, not to mention it was 2 small clusters which had 3 legs on each clusters.(forgot to take pics) by this time I was 2 drinks in and didn't think about it until after the fact, next we go to the king crab legs they had to be the baby king crab because they were the smallest KING crab legs I had seen and this would include the ones I had brought from the grocery store a few weeks ago which was the same price $34.99/lb. I could not believe that Shell Shack a popular, loving, place actually thought it was acceptable to serve these king crab legs that looked like this I couldn't believe it. I thought the had a reputation to uphold. So last thing was the grilled shrimp they were so dry to have been grilled by this time I was so over it and ready to go. I could not believe we had actually waited all that time for the mediocre service and food. So my other half had to remind me that different location, different cooks, different staff. What really made the decision to never visit this location again was when we received the bill it was still into 2 bills with 2 taxes. I definitely didn't understand this but it was time to go after that. I was beyond done. The drinks I really enjoyed tho.. I would not recommend this location because of all the issues. And another that I didn't understand was why was the ladies dressed in panty short like we were at Hooters? Never again!!! read more

Our first visit and we absolutely loved it. We eat out a lot and our waitress Crystal was one of the best I have ever seen. We will certainly ask for her when we return. We each had different flavors of the King crab boil so we could sample each other's. Mine had the rub which they say adds some heat and amplifies flavor and my wife had garlic flavor with no rub. We will both order with no rub next time. The rub was extra messy and I prefer a simple flavor. I was disappointed that I had to pay extra for potatoes and corn. Service was excellent! read more
