All their staff is friendly and helpful but also knowledgeable. Which unfortunately is rare in other home improvement stores. They have most everything you'll need and if they don't have it will help you find it. They have the best selection of wood around and on top of the complimentary popcorn while you shop they also have a food truck outside to make sure you dont leave hungry. It may be a dollar or two more than some other home improvement places around but you will leave much happier and that most times is worth the cost. Pre-historic lumber cutting service. Despite a premium selection of various woods and plywoods, the inhouse wood cutting service is totally pre-historic. In a world oc CNC machines, Shell Lumber elect to cut the wood on a 30+ year old table saw (inaccurate), with a saw blade which needed replacement years ago. As a result, my cuts in the premium plywood had horrendous splintering on the underside. Shame on you Shell Lumber. read more

I purchased mulch today and asked for their 10% military discount which she applied to my receipt. When I picked up the mulch, there was no discount from the marked price. I went back to ask and she said not everything is included. I asked what was included with the military discount, she responded that she and they do not know. This is what I call smoke and mirrors. It was my first time here and I was impressed with the number of different types of wood here. Overall the service here was great and the prices are high but not compare with anyone else just saying. They have a parking lot but it's not that big so you should take that into consideration. I sent a detailed email to the support people at Shell Lumber and Hardware complete with a copy of the order and highlighted the item I was shorted. But I did not have the correct email which was my fault. I accept that. So I called and talked to a man with an immediate poor attitude. Seems he thinks I was trying to get something for nothing. Really! A $12 item? I resent the email while talking to their customer representative and he said he's in contact his shipping department. I then minutes later get and email saying his shipping department says "the order was shipped complete! JESUS! I ask if a camera had recorded the package being loaded? How would they know for sure if it was left out? I said if I was trying to get something for nothing I'd try for more then a $12 timer. So I said keep the F-ing timer and I'll go elsewhere. More insults from customer service. He then says reassemble the order and take a picture. So if I was trying to pull one over don't you think I'd simply leave an item out of the picture? This company complete with smart ass customer service rep is in Florida. I'm on the other side of the country in Washington State. Kinda wished I'd lived in Florida so I could pay a personal visit. My fiancé LOVES this place, their wood selection is like no other. Their employees are very nice and are always available to help us find what we need (especially since it is a little like a maze at times!). They cut the wood there and made an exception for us, when our wood wouldn't fit in our car and they were technically "closed" (we bought the wood a few min before closing). They reopened the cutting shop after they had already closed it down and cleaned up, which we were so grateful for! All the employees said I had to ask this one guy but when I went to ask him, he completely ignored me. I asked other employees if anyone else could help me, but they said only this one guy, and he refused to help. It seems like he was doing it on purpose. She was very inviting, and her smile lights up a room. One thing I noticed is that she acknowledged every single person that passed us with a smile. We spent thousands of dollars on interior doors and overhang material. They messed up one door and neglected to expedite the process of getting us the right one. They dropped the ball at every turn and their representative Sergio Bonilla and his manager Izzy Perdomo never apologized and were very slow in replying to our emails. This caused us additional expenses because we had to pay extra in bringing an installer and painter back for one door In addition we asked for a refund or credit on material that was completely not used and they refused to because it was over 30 days. They have no regard for their customers and it seems like their attitude is that we should be glad they are doing business with us We are still waiting on our door 5 weeks and counting We will never do business with them or recommend them read more

This hardware store has been in Miami for many years and is family owned and operated. Really nice place to visit, very well-stocked, and very helpful associates. We were just visiting family during the weekend and stopped by and ended up getting a couple of items that we needed back home in Orlando (that were not available at Lowes or Home Depot). It is certainly worth a visit and has a lot of cool items. The reason for the visit was to get AC filters that were of unusual dimensions. I ordered 4 masks online for in-person pick-up, two of them were $5/mask and two were $7/mask. While it is a bit on the pricier end for masks, they are more sturdy than the blue ones we have been using, and they are angled so that there's more room for the nose and mouth, so it seemed worth it. I ordered the masks online and used amazon pay to pay for the masks. The site was very clear to not go pick up the masks without a confirmation email or call that the order was ready, so I didn't. I didn't hear back for about 5 days, which I thought was odd given that they said orders are typically ready the next day. I kept checking my amazon account but the status update was blank. On day 5 I gave them a call and spoke to John who was so nice and helpful. He told me they had emailed me but it went to the email associated with my amazon account, which is not one I use regularly. Anyway, I went to go pick up that same day. They have a specific area for online pickups and it was very easy and simple to get my order. I haven't used the masks yet but my mom did and she likes them more than the others we've used. This was a smooth process and I would recommend, just know that if you use amazon pay the notification will go to your amazon email, and the status doesn't get updated until after you pick up your items. read more

I'm building this custom outdoor table that I was inspired by on Pinterest and knew this would be the destination to get my supplies at. It's much more industrial than Home Depot is but the prices are better and so is the inventory. Plenty of contractors come here for items needed at their job sites. It's close to US1 & 27th Avenue which we all know to be a traffic-ridden area so avoiding rush hour time is probably in your best interest. I like their assortment of wood because it's higher quality than I find elsewhere and the prices can't be beat. Parking can be a nightmare but it depends on the time of day you're visiting. It's most convenient when you come with a specific mindset of what task you're tackling because it's easy to get overwhelmed with the variety and possibilities here. read more

Take it from a customer who's been coming here for over 30 years - Shell is the best place for lumber and all your home construction needs! Their selection is amazing, and includes a large variety of specialty hardwoods. We've purchased wood for decks, sheds, roofing, indoor cabinets, door hardware, pvc plumbing, copper, closet doors, teak for boats, doors, and quite a few tools here over the years. Usually their customer service is amazing, but if their really busy you may have to pop into the office. On our last visit we were initially had a hard time getting help, which wasn't normal for shell... so we sought out help by John R. who set us up with dedicated assistance from David for a shed roof repair project. Although we do most of our own wood working they have an incredible mill shop which we used a few years ago to precut some plywood. FYI- they have odds and ends from the mill shop for sale such as 4x4 plywood. They also can deliver your project order right to the job site... we were lucky to be able to get ours same-day. I know from past experience that they're great with special orders like bamboo plywood and more. I had a horrible experience in this place. Initially called and spoke with Kureem who advised me that they had over 300 pieces in stock. I then proceeded to ask if they price matched Florida lumber. They transferred me to sales and a lady was very nice to say that yes they did as long as I brought an invoice from Florida lumber. I then called Florida lumber and got an invoice from them so that I could show them for them to price match. When I arrived to the place After driving over an hour, they only had about 70 pieces. On top of this, when I ask about the price match, Kareem told me that they only price match local Home Depot's, not Florida lumber. I requested a manager and I got Lucas, who seemed very understanding yet he did do one thing to help me. He offer delivery, but I have driven over an hour with a rent a truck and delivery was not an option for me. They definitely need to retrain the personnel to not be providing false information over the phone and also managers need to be a little bit more understanding and show initiative as to how to resolve the problem for future references. I do not recommend this place to anybody. I should have stuck to Florida lumber, Which I do recommend to everybody. read more

Sad day in coconut grove. I've been a loyal customer of Shell lumber since I moved to the grove in 2001. Never even blinked an eye when Home Depot moves into town. I stayed loyal to Shell lumber. I always support the small mom and pop places. I have spent thousands and thousands or my hard earned dollars there. Even when I moved to west Miami 5 years ago I take the extra time to drive to Shell lumber for everything, even if I needed 1 screw, I went all the way to Shell lumber to support them. Well the tables have turned today. I repaired my shed roof and bought 1/2 inch plywood. I had 2 sheets that I could not use so I went to return them to Shell lumber. They had a computer printed sign that said no returns on hurricane supplies. I explained this was not hurricane supplies and since I bought it a week ago way before this tropical storm even became a hurricane, they refused to accept the return. I explained to Roger what it was for but it fell on deaf ears. He was compassionate but refused the return. I explained my loyalty to his organization but I was still refused. I asked why and he pointed to the sign which really did not explain why, buy oh well. I have no use and no room for 2 full sheets of plywood so I just left them there and walked away. Not only did I walk away today, but I am walking away forever. Shell Lumber lost a 17 year long loyal customer over $33.18($16.59 a sheet). Adios Shell lumber. Shell Lumber is now dead to me. Very sad and disappointed to see what it used to be a fantastic customer service experience. This place has obviously gone through ownership or management change. It used to be the place that you chose over Home Depot solely on their great customer service. Our most recent poor experience was today Saturday with the person supposedly in charge named Lukas. He needs to go back to customer service training Course 101. He was uncooperative, purposefully difficult and uninformed of their business.
